  • coming to 2 America was great Apparently, it was filmed in Rick Ross's house...and may I just say the man has great taste....or maybe that's the set designers. Just like the costumes...the decor is both culturally beautiful and modern. There are pieces that I would love in my own home and could also see in museums. The backstory plot is worked almost effortlessly into the current timeline with a flashback clearing up any mystery. It keeps the flow of the movie and introduces the new ensemble quickly. Thus creating a time crunch and the necessity of a love story. And although the writing gets a little sticky...the actor's characterizations keep the movie alive. The love development between Javelle and his Royal Groomer (Nomzamo Mbatha) was too short. I wish there was more time to explore their chemistry. It was notable in their first scene... but wasn't has given enough real time to really evolve. But the packaging of the movie is more about letting everyone shine than just a to be a prince. Acting MVP - Welsey Snipes as General Izzi. He is both intimidating and fun...with swagger and humor. I really appreciated his dedication to this individual and really shows his versatility. The biggest perk- the costuming is divine. I hope that in my life I can wear something half as beautiful. Overall I'm glad the audience can visit Zumanda again...and honestly hope that we can explore the lives of the young princesses in the future.

  • Eddie Murphy is a comedic genius and characters in all his movies have a unique presence all their own. I loved the original “Coming To America” since I was a kid and re-watched it just before watching this new sequel “Coming 2 America.” It’s hard not to compare the two -the new one felt like its predecessor in the great comedic delivery, but it occasionally tried too hard. For sure some hilarious parts, but just cannot remake that magic of the first which is a hard act to follow. Clearly this movie was meant to stand on its own without having to watch the original, and they included a few flashbacks from the original to help bring that back story to life. Love seeing them bring back almost all of the original characters especially Arsenio Hall who needs to be doing more movies, some dramatic new characters played by Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, Wesley Snipes, and then threw in a bunch of cameos which was cool to see -- Morgan Freeman, Salt-N-Pepa, En Vogue, Gladys Knight, Davido, Dikembe Mutombo, Colin Jost, and many more. Much like the original, costume design played such a huge role in the telling of the story, and what a beautiful story it told. As did the set design and gorgeous set location (Rick Ross’s Atlanta Mansion!) was on point for the Zamunda Palace. And the choreographed performances were great too. If you go in expecting this to be better than the original, you will be disappointed. But if you go in expecting to be entertained and laugh out loud like you did in the original you will enjoy it. It was a great 2nd act to a classic with many new gems.

  • It was a great movie. 'coming to America 1' was easy! All the prior movies featured blacks coming from Africa as slaves! Roots! Eddie Murphy made the first movie as a black man coming from Africa to America as a King! It was easy! 'Coming to America 2' was a good movie!

  • What an awesome movie, first one was great my favorite movie hands down. Thought it would be tough to come close but damn they did a great job at it, made me chuckle couple times. Especially when Eddie was singing, also Eddie and Arsenio man their roles in both Coming to America and Coming 2 America can never be beaten. Gotta love Eddie. Great reunion of the cast as well!!! Eddie and Arsenio both are great with playing different characters, Eddie is champ at it tho. That is my first movie that i saw right when it got released and i ain't complaining. Everyone should watch both the movies people who haven't or don't want to are missing out on the fun! Last thing, everyone who gave it a lower star than 5 either hate to appreciate any movie fully, or just can't give the credit to this great edition to part 1. Don't let stars lower than 5 stop you from even try and watch it. Just wanted to add that in the edited review!

    • Glad you enjoyed it and everyone is entitled to there own opinion but the movie was one of the worst sequels I’ve ever seen, no it didn’t have to be as good as the original but they ruined the characters, I mean that daterape scene was bad, the son was boring and cringy they kept going from scene to scene, they was literally in America for like afew minutes and the movie at times was so stupid it was becoming unwatchable. 1/10

  • I Truly enjoyed this production. Another generation will get to enjoy what is truly a great movie. Eddie Murphy productions did an amazing job in merging the past to the present. They brought back some of my favorite characters such as John Amos. "Mr . McDowell", the old men in the barbershop and especially "Sexy chocolate ". They added some ones such as Leslie Jones who kept me laughing through out and Tracy Morgan. Oh ,and seeing Lunnell (favorite woman comedian) was a great bonus. Last but certainly not least the singing of "Queen to be" (John Legand) , Salt-N- Pepa and Envogue put the icing on the cake for me. This is a very colorful, entertaining and funny movie. Joke after joke. A must watch for me on repeat. Bravo!

  • I mean...it's exactly what you think it's going to be but has loads of fun surprised. If you go into this expecting some sort of cinematic masterpiece of story telling then you are dumb and should just leave lol. The amount of original actors that Eddie Murphy was able to get to return back to this sequel this many years later is PHENOMENAL and a HUGE bonus to the movie. The little surprises (don't read if you don't want spoilers) En Vogue, Salt n Pepa, Gladys Knight, Morgan Freeman!!!! It goes on and on and you gotta watch ALLLLL the credits not only for the bloopers but do NOT miss JOHN LEGEND singing/slaying Queen to Be! It was just as fun and campy as you expect and the costume design was exquisite. I can't believe how good Eddie Murphy and Wesley Snipes look btw! It's crazy. What fun. I loved the little "black panther" inspired female warriors in the daughters. Loved the modernization of the women - just a bonus. And this Teyana Taylor LORD HAVE MERCY is she a stunner. And lastly, I wasn't a huge fan of Shari Headley in the first movie (Lisa) but she really grew on me in this movie (30 years later lol). Also Tracy Morgan and Leslie Jones hahahahahahahaha. Good comedic additions. Anyways, a good old time and I highly recommend taking off your movie critic hat and just have fun watching! :)

  • Profile image Sydney Chandler 15 hours ago Almost all of the gang is back, except for a few new faces. Coming 2 America is just a fun, funny good-time film. Try to restrain your inner critic and roll with it. It was visually stunning, the costumes were gorgeous (thanks to costume designer extraordinaire Ruth E. Carter of course), the cinematography was very good, and everyone appeared to be having a great time acting and being together, and it showed on-screen. If you want to truly chill, laugh-out-loud and revisit your youth, Coming 2 America is the film for you. And by the way, Leslie Jones had me cracking up. I have no idea why Les-dog is always being vilified on social media. And what was so refreshing about this film is that everyone looked and acted their age, which is a good thing. Normally in these reboots/sequels, writers don't always stay true to the origin story and go off the rails, but with C2A, they actually resisted the urge. The script didn't call for anyone to be paired up with someone young enough to be their child. Every couple was age-appropriate. Hakeem (Murphy) and Lisa (Shari Headley) were still married and had older children. Arsenio Hall's character (Semmi) looked great. The overall look, feel and tone of the film is inviting and puts a smile on your face. There were some familiar underlying themes throughout the film, particularly about the value of girls vs boys, and daughters vs sons, and in the main storyline, it was just as pervasive as it is in real life. But much like a lot of "girl dads", Hakeem evolved, with a little help from his wife. Coming 2 America is a light-hearted film that has a lot of relatable issues that any family can encounter. And it's filled with a buffet of beautiful, natural Melanated people and I loved it. Eddie Murphy and the entire crew scored a huge win for Amazon with Coming 2 America. And I will be watching it again.

  • Pure Ham. Some risque jokes, a lot of them flat, pure nonsense and silliness overload. That's entertainment. Eddie Murphy style. Fun and fantasy and some fabulous costumery a la Wakanda. Which is really no surprise because the designer is the same one as Black Panther. I thought it was going to be a musical for a moment there at the beginning. Great to see Leslie Thomas again. I don't think she gets enough roles tailored for her energy level like Melissa McCarthy has been lucky enough to get. And Wesley Snipes looks wicked in his new hairdo...and his...wickedry. Oh even Trevor Noah is there sporting a retro Afro borrowed from the Disco Era and an accent so horrible it would make a springboek blush. I wasn't expecting a GREAT movie, but it's still a pity that so much awesome talent was wasted on such an halfarsed script that quickly went south.I guess they were just happy to share in the glow of Murphy's charisma. Too bad we didn't see more of his original genius here, which I last experienced in Dolemite is My Name that was truly an Oscar-worthy effort. Though I'm not comparing the films which are very different material. I clued out halfway through to watch Robin Wright in 'Land' which is the very opposite of the kind of film described as an entertainer.

  • I was waiting for Samuel L Jackson to come through lol but good movie though *FUN FACT* The scenes set in Zamunda were all filmed in the Atlanta area, and specifically that the Zamundan royal palace was shot entirely at an estate owned by the hip-hop star and producer Rick Ross. Eddie Murphysaid, "Yeah, his house is so big, we literally were able to dress it and make it look like a palace. That stuff you see where I'm walking on the African plain and there's antelopes running--that's Rick Ross's backyard. He has like 300 acres or something." And Arsenio Hall added, "And a lake! Do you have a lake?"

  • Coming 2 America is great. And like its predecessor is heart felt, visually appetizing, and a different perspective of a magical love story. First off...the cast is wonderful, and the range of characters from Murphy & Hall are wondeful comic vehicles throughout the whole movie. The newer additions of Wesley Snipes and Leslies Jones both shine in very distinct roles, as well as the younger women cast as the Princesses as they are so beautiful and talented. There were also too many cameos to count...Morgan Freeman to En Vogue, Gladys Knight to Colin Jost. James Earl Jones is delightful if just for the first few scenes and captures the original bravado of the King. The current Queen(Shari Headly) has evolved from classy girl of Queens to real Royalty, and in the characterization allows the air of her role to carry her differently. John Amos, Loius Anderson, Izzi the double arc...even the royal announcer...all are back to stroke our imagination. Together it creates a world that could very well be entwined in our own. I applaud the representation of this film and is predecessor...as it helps enrich the black experience...and celebrates continental heritage and culture. Like the original...the costuming itself deserves an Oscar. This film has a very distinct feel to the original...they are both unique masterpieces. Every ornate placement of jewlery, and the inticate crowns, gowns and capes... even the backgroundund cast are full decked out. The entirty of the movie is blocked such. I was enthrawled with the craftmansship and uniquness of contemporary African couture. And frequently through the movies are pieces placed in unconventional ways..a mixed media of shells, metals, jewels, and silk. I dont think I can compare it to any current movie on the market. And unlike the chic pastels of the original...this embraces a more luxurious and ethereal quality. Apparently it was filmed in Rick Ross' house...and may I just say the man has great taste....or maybe that's the set designers. And although the writing gets a little sticky...the actors characterizations keep the movie alive.
