Bonjour à tous, as the chateau bedroom is lacking in french detail, Ash and jonathan set to work on creating DIY mouldings from some original 18th century pieces. First the pair talk us through step by step on how to get the perfect results, Ash create the moulds and once set can get to work on creating the decorative pieces from the moulds, and the results are amazing.

About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.

  • I have used paperclay in detailed silicon moulds. It is much easier than using resin. And it comes out looking kind of like wood.

  • Little tip to get thd bubbles out, you can tap them down for big bubbles or use heat, lighter, heat gun or hair dryer to remove the smaller ones. Also you can get mica powder or ink to go in the resin that will colour it. Hope this helps.

    • Yes, I thought the same, I’ve even used a tiny little cheap brûlée torch. Those bubbles would bother me so, so much.

Have you thought of opening your own shopping list on Amazon for the products you use and can recommend?   • Happy birthday Ash! I think making your own silicone molds and using resin is a great idea. After you apply the plaster top coat, you get the durability of resin with the beauty of plaster. It’s a win/win situation.
