The spring training tryout scene from the film Rudy. This is one of the most inspirational scenes in any film. The song "Tryouts" is composed by Jerry Goldsmith.

  • Memories of cold fall mornings, you can see your breath, the sun's shining or maybe it's overcast and a white misty haze is over the grass, the wind's blowing and you're knocking heads and working your tail off. Anybody who has every played football knows these days, these practices, the work and comradery, some of the best times a person can have as an athlete.

  • _Rudy_ is a perfect example of how a film's score can elevate a small, rather personal story to a masterpiece that grabs you by the heart and never lets go. It's a testament to Goldsmith's amazing talent that even fans of rival programs who dislike Notre Dame still love this movie. The _Rudy_ soundtrack is nothing less than the indomitable human spirit set to music.

  • Honestly I think Rudy getting ADMITTED to ND was the far greater challenge.

    @JohnSmith-zw8vp@JohnSmith-zw8vp3 жыл бұрын
    • I think it depends on a lot of factors…. Personally, I’m of a pretty good size being 6’3 / 220lbs. I’ve trained hard in all the sports I’ve competed in and I’m not by any means a super star athlete but I’m likely more athletic than a guy like Rudy. However, I don’t think I could ever be motivated to take hits like Rudy Day In and Day Out like that. Especially if there’d be almost no chance that I’d make the team or be rewarded for all that pain and embarrassment. I think it’s actually far more possible for a person of average intelligence to be accepted into a University with a low admission rate. Studying hard, acquiring a good tutor, applying multiple times and making connections with the right people goes very, very far. But to each their own. It all depends on how motivated you are to get what you want.

      @DrakeBrunette@DrakeBrunette2 жыл бұрын
    • It's a solid discussion. ND's current acceptance rate is 15% (top-tier schools hovered around 20% in the '70s). Rudy allegedly did not have the grades for Joliet Community College, so Father Cavanaugh's influence ultimately allowed him admission to HC. Fortunately, he was able to identify a learning disability, which - who knows what treatments existed - provided at least a reason for his academic troubles and hopefully a focused plan. However, he's a "dreamer" in tryouts. One of the two selected - out of the 15 - who will "run the opposition's plays." He had approximately a 13.3% chance to earn a spot.

      @dchang11@dchang112 жыл бұрын
    • @@dchang11 I loved how the administration at Notre Dame reacted to the _über-elite_ students that took over the university during the Vietnam War. They claimed they wanted to 'negotiate' the return of the school as long as all charges were dropped and their stance on the war was recognized. Notre Dame said "nope, you don't run this school... we do". And those students were all expelled. Their daddy's wealthy didn't matter at all. I hate that war and our reasons for being there... pretty much everything about it. But that gives no one the right to take and/or destroy other people's property.

    • @@DrakeBrunette You simply lack the championship mindset to achieve anything great, while guys like Spud Webb, Mugsy Bogues, Wes Welker, Steve Largent, Manny Pacquiao, etc., all have what it takes to overcome great odds. It's ok, nothing is wrong with that. More than 99.99% of the human population, including myself, don't have that championship mindset. That's why only such a small number of people truly attain greatness. Greatness is reserved for the very few who are willing to DIE to accomplish something.

  • At 2:47 you can see the players running the 2:1 version of the Oklahoma drill. Perfected by Bud Wilkinson in 1952, it quickly became a mainstay of both college and pro football practices. Wilkinson ran his guys thru this drill so many times that the players reported that they couldnt even feel the collisions in the real games. Bud took OU on a 47 game win streak from 1953 to 1957, a streak which is considered by most football experts to be unbeatable, especially after the development of the college playoff.

If your undersized, don’t stop trying, don’t quit just because your smaller or if your parents or role models say you will probably be cut. Don’t give up 🔥

  • A historic masterpiece in filmmaking and in the intrinsic value of of the conscious mind. Every play is in the present. The effort of Rudy on the field has implications of every man who has the drive to accomplish through physical limitations that which comparatively few can accomplish even among those of which are the most physically imposing individuals. This film and story proves that %100 is not something many men can actually give. The film takes the authentic look of the time and translates it into the heart of the present. Many tears will follow this piece when you are in this same frame of mind as you see what you could have accomplished.

I have to go through hard work, persistence and determination to get there. It will not be easy. Not even the slightest bit. But I will make it happen and I will somehow succeed and play at the stadium with hundreds of thousands of fans watching us. Watching me. But the day will soon come. Wish me the best of luck and don’t forget that hard work will pay one day. The efforts count and they will weigh upon success. Soon I will become. Proffesional and play soccer but the day will come pray for me and wish me all luck as I’m 15 and I want to become one of all. Thank you for reading this. Amen
