Rachel Jin The examples you gave are awkward, too-literal translations. By analogy, it would be as if "Wo fumu" were translated as "the me of father mother." But that doesn't make sense ; instead, the phrase means "my parents." So for the song lyrics, apply the more sensible, less awkward, translation method to phrases such as "wo xin zhong."

Well I have no problem it was done in english because its a Disney production that referes to the animated version. There are plenty of Mulan chinese versions though and much more true to the original chinese folklore story. Disney animated was a bit whitewashed version catered to the American audience.

Although there is still transparency issues and misguided deeds, it was done out of respect and responsibility for their jobs. @@nunasenpai3969 I'm pretty sure I read that the songs from the original movie will be in this film, but as orchestral/instrumental arrangements without vocals. Given the style they're apparently going for, I think that's actually a really good way to handle it.

I love this song! It has a different meaning: instead of being sad, it moreso gives a feeling of strength and self love. It tells you: " the me in my eyes believes everyday that I will love myself more and more. The me in my heart every second would let go for love to search. It'd be even better if it were middle Chinese, since I think that's the earliest form of Chinese people can reconstruct verbally. It'd be a trip for all audiences but the effort would definitely be immense.
Well I have no problem it was done in english because its a Disney production that referes to the animated version. There are plenty of Mulan chinese versions though and much more true to the original chinese folklore story. Disney animated was a bit whitewashed version catered to the American audience.
its an american production with an american company paying for it made to look like an authentic chinese movie. i think thats enough. plus chinese is a hard language for most people to understand while english is pretty much a universal language of film at this point
