I accidently broke every single break-in rule on the CFMOTO 800NK. I took it on track, I road it in the rain, and put this bike through more in 600 miles than most bikes see in their entire lives. Now it's time do the first service on the bike and see if I destroyed it...

  • A few people are concerned about the oil filter. I should've shown it on screen, but I didn't. Mostly because there wasn't anything to see. There was more particulate in the screens than the filter. That's my had. I made a short taking a look at it: kzhead.infoRKLPWGgsSqQ Next time I do something like this I'll show you a close up.

  • So I have no experience with the NK800 however I do have experience with the NK300. I work for an MSF School. We have 12 NK300's as training bikes. Of those 12 bikes in the coarse of a year of ownership, we have experienced 1 complete wire harness malfunction, 1 display failure, 1 thermostat failure, a couple leaks/gasket failure's, and almost every battery has failed. Despite the above, I still think they are pretty good bikes and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone. Again, a small sample size but this is my experience with a dozen bikes in about 12 months of ownership in Arizona with the highest mileage bike being around the 500 mile mark and the average being around 300 miles.

  • That's an "interesting" setup with the oil drain plugs. Service manual to the rescue! I got to throw a leg over a CFMOTO for the first time last weekend during a ride day.I got to ride the 300SR & 800MT Explore, and that 800 has a very throaty intake. They're not up to the standard set by the Japanese, but they're pretty darn close. Close enough that I seriously considered buying one, and I'm not concerned about reliability. They've been selling the 650's & smaller bikes here for over a decade & there's plenty of them that are still on the road.

    • The dual drain plug/mesh strainer is inherited from the dry sump KTM engine designs. You think that design is quirky, look up what's involved with the single cylinder KTM LC4 oil change!

      @pauln6803@pauln68033 ай бұрын
    • @@Mancastle A good pair of circlip pliers is a necessity for KTM oil filter removal. The real annoyance is the fragile mesh screens that fall apart after a couple of oil changes, meaning you're better stumping up for an official KTM service kit instead of just getting a cheap (but perfectly good) Hi-Flo or Champion pattern jobbie.

  • The oil spill was probably from using too big of a funnel. It happened to me with my 790 Duke and once i bought a smaller funnel so air could escape out of the fill hole, i could fill it no problem. You will always have to fill twice however. I fill it till the sight glass is all the way to the top, turn on the engine for a few seconds, then fill to middle of the glass. I change the oil every 5k and it's at 40k now. The bike has a neat way to remind you to change the oil though. The quickshifter starts to feels 'gritty' telling you its time to change.

  • Hey Spite, the only recommendations I would do with any of the bikes I buy would be to grease the wheel bearing seals, spacers & axle (F&R), grease the swingarm bearings/seals, grease the headstem bearings & apply anti-seize to the chain adjuster bolt threads going into the aluminium swingarm. The main reason: All manufacturers apply FA grease to save on costs & I get to learn about dissembling and reassembling the components. A fellow American YTer has an 800MT & has replaced the swingarm bearings, seals & sleeves because of the lack of grease from the factory & because of a couple of low water crossings & gravel roads. I’d expect the 800NK to be similar.

On all of the bikes ive owned you can do that to crank but not start the bike. This is for non carburetor bikes. I do it after storing my bike over the winter. Helps get oil moving around and lube things up in the top end before i actually start it up.

As far as plugs, in the ibex 800t i own, 8 screws and the plastics are off, and you can get right to the top of the head for plugs, pull a couple bolts and the tank lifts off to give you easy access. • Spite - you've treated this like my son treats his CB125R. High revs, check. Salt water (roads in the UK sprayed with salt, grit and urea over winter), check. Washing after a ride, Nope. Chain oiling, not often (praise the lord for oring chains). Muddy floods, check. 600 mile service - that can wait until 1000 miles. The bike has now had it's second service and has over 5k miles on it and runs like an absolute dream! He has learnt along the way too and is now fully knowledgable in how to care for this one and his next bikes.

I lean towards, if it's a good bike, it's a good bike. Can't wait to see how the Moto Morini Corsaro 750 does, gives me SV650S vibes, except sexier. And let's be honest, the NK isn't ugly..... but it ain't pretty either.

  • There is a lot more to question reliability than just the oil and basics. My biggest worry would be the welds, quality of steel and metal composites. I'd even question the quality of the screws and bolts. Manufacturing cost alone isn't the only factor that determines low sale price.

    @jvillain9946@jvillain99463 ай бұрын
    • From the video, all the hardware was straight from a KTM 790 parts bin. All their bolts that have that same dull metal look to them, but they've held up well for my '19 790 Duke. The filter cover also has the same weird shiny metal look. I've got 40k miles on mine and do my own service. I've had a bad cam chain tensioner (known issue on 1st gen, rattle rattle rattle) and the thermostat went bad last year, but no complaints for a KTM. I'm hoping this bike will keep replacing part costs down cause I don't see myself getting rid of the bike. Its too good of a daily do everything bike.

  • True indicator of build quality is how many defect units we have compared to mint ones. Believe me when I say that 5 out of 100 is alarming for manufacturer and 10 out of 100 is catastrophic. So the possibility of having a good bike in case of CF Moto maybe 90 per cent. It is quite certain that you get a good bike. But social media will ensure that all the bad ones come public and that makes people fear that every bike is going to break. Your 1st service doesn't prove anything about the quality other than the fact that there is no constant quality issue with CF Moto but merely fluctuation in build quality. -BR, production engineer

These first batch of the partnership between KTM and China bikes are going to be spectacular! China does not want to mess up their partnership with KTM and KTMs going to ensure the bikes are perfect as to be lie anybody's fears of a bike made in China and the partnership so they are going to go out of their way to make everything perfect!

They aren’t stupid, they know Americans are going to question the reliability so it wouldn’t surprise me if they had very strict standards at the factory. I’m not saying there’s not going to be things that slip through the cracks but I’ve had Japanese, German and British bikes have questionable things on them and when I took my CFmoto 450 apart to add a quick shifter everything was marked, neat, and clean looking. I was very impressed and I will be buying more of there bikes and I’m currently excited for there ibex 450🤙🏼
