David Nash
Graham Moughton
Roy Hilton
Stevie Larkins…….amongst others, interviewed by the Wapping Assassin himself Jimmy Flint, take us back to those glory days!
Repton had a great reputation during this era and was the most powerful club in Great Britain and maybe the world, run by ex-boxer / trainer Tony Burns,
For all ROB’s there is a real sense of camaraderie a family affair, true brothers!
As previous captain of the famous east end boxing club,I can only say what a great time I enjoyed winning the same gold medal as Howard Winstone and Ken buchanan ,representing London,England and of course Repton.Some50 years later I am still operating the Abridge Academy and sparring at the age of 70..However nothing will ever match the time I had at Repton, nor the great guys that voted me captain, love them all,David Nash
Really enjoyed that. Will show it to my 77 year old dad Bryan Snooks.Who boxed for the Repton in the late 50s and early 60s.
It was really enjoyable watching this video, as it helped to brush away the cobwebs from my brain's memory bank, and I could recall watching many of the names mentioned box at York Hall and other locations. My best friend growing up was Joey Wreden, so I went to watch him numerous times, and in fact was with him at the Royal Albert Hall the night he won the Junior ABAs on the same night as Jimmy Flint also won his title. However, Joey boxed for West Ham when he won his title and joined Repton a little later. I was also hoping the video would have included a clip of Joey's old adversary of that era, Johnny Whitehorn, but sadly it didn't. Great days.
The fact that it was a SPLIT decision against Sugar Ray is superlative. Ultimate respec to all of you! I'm from Plaistow, I remember the Royal oak, and The Black Lion, and all the fighters that trained there!
I fought and beat a repton lad on pts in my 30th fight 1980.repton had such a fierce reputation and he was a good fighter.used to see all the old east end fighters on the London circuit, always a pleasure talking to real gentlemen fighters.much respect.
I was a junior boxer at the Repton and all these fighters and many more not mentioned were my idols. The atmosphere in the gym was electric, and the pride in being a Repton boy was immense.

Loved this I was brought up in Hackney went to the same school as John H and Billy Taylor I lived around the corner from Johnny Whitehorn who I looked up to as a young boy and it was inevitable that I would end up boxing. I fought a couple of Repton lads and was good friends with Sylvie because he came from my club before he moved to Repton. I trained and sparred at Repton but probably lacked the discipline at the time to represent them although I did end up boxing in the pros. Boxing is a small world everyone knows everyone I just recently connected with George Gilbody on FB. Just like at Repton 40 years later I am still friends with my old club mates Dom Bergonzi, Mickey Pike, Kevin Downer et al. Jimmy, I am also friends with your old nemesis Steve Simms who is a nice lad!
The Rowland brothers were class x my ex father in law was Tony burns, RIP xxx
