So, I first heard Nerves in March 2021, just a month after my boyfriend passed away in a car accident. From Nerves, I dove into the whole album, and every single song became my source of solace, even though it didn't directly relate to the situation I was going through, you know? It was the artist's complex emotions that provided comfort amidst the complexity of my grief. It's been two years now, and I still listen to and love every single song by DPR IAN. It's crazy how you can connect with someone on the other side of the world, doing their thing, and feel that connection, haha!

ive been listening to this song for a year now and its been seriously touching me for some reason and once i finally watched his documentary on this album i began to understand everything ive heard , the mv the feeling of having to let someone go because its not easy to let them see you in your lows act so differently , and also the character MITO in all the mvs is just so well played and delivered it actually feels so real im guessing the ring that Ian wears with the eye resembles Mito which is a part of him … thats so beautiful and encouraging!! like wow im just really inspired by this whole story it has changed the way i view things and i hope i can overcome my dark thoughts in some kind of way close to this art

This was in my most repeated songs of 2022 on Spotify, but now that I’ve finally dived into the whole lore and story behind DPR IAN, I play this song on repeat again, realizing how many different meanings it can have, and idk it feels like I’m rediscovering this song The lyrics and MV is just so raw and hauntingly beautiful that I find myself watching it over and over without getting enough of it. This song and MV makes me feel so many emotions that there aren’t enough words to describe. All I can say is I’m forever amazed by DPR
What a storyteller Christian is. Definitely, the "I'm doing fine" with the manic visuals got me. Most of us like to tell others we are okay when on the inside we are anything but. So relatable.
You see someone who's likely broken and trying tirelessly too say he's not. Smoking and running, trying to ask for forgiveness without really saying it. Then, he gives up and just end up says "forgive me" "I loved you and just messed up". I feel the frustration and the beginning of somo anger from the guitar... Towards himself?? Its like he's constantly trying to convince himself that he's doing fine but its like an echo from the void in his soul. He actually feels empty and its so well depicted through the pain in his voice. The exquisite use of colours in the video to show us the juxtaposition of his words and his inner emotion is just so spectacular. He's saying and re assuring himself that he's fine but the solemn background gives us conflicting views and feelings. Also to showcase his innermost emotions the dreadful image of him covered in cuts and blood reassuring the audience that the more he says "im doing fine" the more is he sinking in his void with claws in it .

When Ian says that this song is about regrets and also could be about a relationship between you and yourself, I tried to picture "he" as my present self and "she" as my old self. Then i started crying because there's so much things i regretted and thinking that maybe i would be happier if i didn't pick the wrong decision back then. Okay but like the transformation of his *"I'm doing fine"* is brilliant, really. I had about this in psychology about a year ago; it's called the reiteration effect. And it is basically when you believe false information to be correct after repeated exposure. DPR IAN is not doing fine. It's pretty obvious to both himself and to everyone watching this. But he repeatedly says he is. And when you listen to the music in the background, it gets amplified with every repetition until it reaches a point in which it sounds like the chorus instrumental. Here, his "'I'm doing fine" is more pointed to himself than to his lover. Yeah, he wants his lover to know that he's okay now. But he also wants to confirm it with himself. He's repeating the same words over and over again to make himself feel like he is fine. It doesn't matter to him, that he's not okay. He wants to do fine even if it's just an illusion.

It is a masterpiece for real !!! Now that I've listened to the song 5 times , and read its lyrics , I think I get the story of it . The "I" s in the lyrics is the side who was obsessed with the Girl, came out when the real one go out of control (since he has a personality disorder). The part with "He"s are singed by the real one (I'm sitting where you sat down , And now He's looking for something meaningless) the "I" side is inable to overcome his breakup with girl and looking for anything that reminds him of her , appraising meaningless thing relatable to her all over his house. He tries to keep it cool , and act as if he is "Doing Fine" In the last verse The real One speaks again (He's getting a little nervous - 'Cause I loved you - He loved you, loved you) So in the whole song it was the other side 'who is obsessed with girl' talking . Theory: This MV is to describe another angle of MITO. In 'So Beautiful', it is "the darkest form of MITO" and what MITO did can hurt IAN in reality. This MV seems to illustrate that MITO can also make IAN hurt other people around him, especially the beloved ones of his. And this song, as in the album documentary, is one he "had to make, to express that he regretted many his decisions in his life." Since this MV centralizes MITO, so this time we can spot that lyrics is in a strong connection with the MV. It seems to me that the one is still clinging to this relationship is MITO, more than IAN. This can be noticed by that there're "he" and "she" in the lyrics, so the lyrics is not a talk between only 2 people. It's more like both IAN and MITO want and try to express themselves to the girl. While MITO is feeling so stressed out and angry at himself about the fact that the girl left him because he hurt her, IAN is trying to get over it and calm down. "So you came around my house And you left your marks with your fingertips I'm sitting where you sat down And now he's looking for something meaningless " If those lines are simply considered as a talk between IAN and the girl only, we may think that the girl is the one who's still stalking her ex, which sounds... unbelievable. Therefore I think in fact, it is MITO who came to her house and made up this scenario as he is too hurt about the end of the relationship. It appears to make better sense to put MITO as the one who is still stalking his ex and sings this lyrics and the whole song as well: "Hey girl, I heard you're leaving town Hey girl, it might not matter now Hey girl, maybe it worked somehow That’s what I tell myself When you lie down tonight" Based on that, below are some of my assumptions: "He's getting a little nervous -> MITO is" She's getting to the surface -> The girl is leaving MITO in the deep water and getting to the surface You got a little nervous of running back to you When you weren't there -> IAN is saying, or explaining that he's nervous to look back at the time and it wasn't him, it was MITO And I'm sorry I was hurting too much to know That you were standing right there And I'm sorry I will sing this song to you To tell you I really cared And I'm sorry When I left you all alone, girl, I know that wasn't fair 'Cause I loved you He loved you, loved you" -> this part is when both MITO and IAN are sharing the same idea to the girl that they're sorry for hurting her and they both loved her so much. Other than that, there're some details in the MV may prove this either. First, there are some moments of a calm guy (IAN) and he even seems friendly. In contrast, most of the MV are moments of hurting, nervous, uncontrolled guy with his pain (MITO). It's like the blue cross (0:59) and the red cross (1:18), still the one cross but with 2 completely opposite colors. And seems like the red one is implied to be more dominating because the blue cross is not as clear as the red one. Second, in 2:04 there's a scene he is happy with the girl but in the car while she is driving but in 2:06 he is laughing all alone although the position remains the same. So, both IAN and MITO is recalling the happy memories, but MITO is rather obsessed with it and imagines that it's still happening (laughing happily with no one besides). As he has described clearly in the album documentary, the album is about him - IAN & MITO. To me it's like a process of him getting used to and control of both personalities. He is, painting his pain with beauty, aesthetically for us to enjoy. So hope you guys enjoy and give this genuine, talented human being much more support :x Updated: I did notice that there're some parts, his voice sounds myterious and weirdly heavy. It contributes to my theory that it is MITO voice and the clearer voice is IAN's.
