  • Great video Mazzy, keep up the great work! Last April, my wife and I went on a cruise (out of Miami) up the Amazon. We had a few days at sea so I popped into the ship library and found Dylan's book! I read about he songs that I knew and loved it so much that I bought my own copy when I got back to the UK. Following your prompting, I have now started listening to all the tracks on Spotify (one by one) followed by listening to the chapter from Dylan's book on Audible. Absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much for prompting me.

  • Aloha Mazzy, these little record shops are awesome! That MJQ is a great record, even the record album behind it, Paul Horn's "Something Blue" which is one of my favorite mellow Paul Horn record albums, lot a Vibraphone by Emil Richards on it also. Looking forward to watching 👀 all of your adventures in San Francisco. Mahalo Ed

  • I’ve had the Dylan audio book added for a while but haven’t had the head space to jump in. From your commentary it sounds like a more considered expansion of the utterly brilliant Theme Time Radio. I’ve heard that 100+ hours at least 3 times when my work afforded more car time. It was a beautiful thing. Oh, and kudos on the Disney Land song. Hadn’t heard that in ages

  • Damn, didn't expect you'd pull into the town where I live, hang at the Lumberyard for a spell, like I do, spin through the Fillmore, where I just created a walking tour, then visit Vesuvio, my headquarters, and end at City Lights, originated by my old friend, Lawrence. I think you're me! Good music, editing, spirit, thanks.

  • Great video Mazzy. It looks like a lovely drive into SF. I've never been, but its definitely a city I'd like to visit someday. The Dylan audio-book sounds well worth checking it out. There is a wonderful line in a Tom Waits song [San Diego Serenade] that goes... 'I never saw my hometown until I stayed away too long'. Are there aspects of SF that you didn't notice until you returned after a long spell away? Cheers - D

  • Ohh Mazzy; the bookshop…I’d be lost in there…well tell the truth, I’d be lost in San Fransisco! Back in the late 60’s and early 70’s it meant something like Xanadu or the supposed secret city in the Himalaya’s… the holy grail for us of the UK counter culture :-) but that bookshop…I’d be in there for hours… my old cottage , built about 50 years after the Mayflower sailed to America, is just full of books..but there are so may in that shop of yours and all I got were glimpses! So envious Like the ‘painted ladies’ by the way; very Edwardian and southern England :-) Tony

But given your obvious continuing love and affinity with San Francisco, I wonder what originally prompted the move to Seattle? As a Brit Dead Head who has never been to either, you can guess which most attracts me!

  • In my opinion the 2 greatest live concerts of the Rock era were recorded at Winterland in SF just a few months apart ! 1: Frampton Comes Alive (part Winterland ) and 2: The Last Waltz -;The Band's phenomenal swansong concert ! Its quite incredible that both took place at the same venue just a short time in between gigs ? Although they tore Winterland Arena down a few short years later , its legacy shall remain forever more .

Open mind music on divasadero. Green Apple books had an annex which a decent amount of vinyl on clement. There used to be a store called rough trade records (dont think it had any relation to the label back then) on haight and at one point there was even a Reckless records for a couple of years.

  • I hate to be pedantic but.... "Obtuse" usually means stupid or slow-witted. I assume Mazzy meant to say either 'abstruse' or 'oblique'. Although I find Dylan's flirtation with misogyny in the "Witch Woman" chapter to be a but obtuse. Great video, Mazzy. Have a good time.

  • 3:23 Jack Kerouac comes from the same place as Bette Davis. Which is as wobbly combination as Kerouac & his mother. So: you're on a BOOK roll - - a good time for my video request. You have visitors coming to stay when you get home, I think Mazz? Rachel & Sue & one other? My video request, & I'm serious: You & all visitors sat on your balcony, all reading books from *the Norman Maslov Public Library* . Nobody looks at the camera, perched so we see you all reading. Nobody talks. No action but the turning of a page, maybe sips of coffee. Absolutely nothing else is going on for a full 5 minutes. Can you hold your nerve that long? It's important that there's no action, so what is conveyed is everybody so *absorbed in their books* that all other action is redundant. No Hello, no Goodbye in the vid, & no music, stupid, just 3 or 4 folks quietly reading books for a full 5 minutes. Fade out. That's my one & only video request. I've been sticking around here for 4 years waiting for the right moment. This is it. There's no chance of Harry getting organised to do this at his deck party: it's hard enough to get Harry to review a book. So it's down to *the Norman Maslov Public Library* to make this important cultural statement. All Books Matter!
