In this arrow making video we take a look at the steps we take in our Arrow Making Courses for the public. It was mainly Archers that attended the course coming for various Archery clubs in the area. Having only a few hours to fit things in we decided to do a run through and film it so we could get things timed for the day, so that is the footage you are seeing above. Nothing fancy, starting with making an arrow shaft with a shooting board and working our way to fletching the arrow and binding on the feathers.

  • I don't know if I'm asking this right, but how do you know how much weight an arrow can tolerate? Say a bow is 90lbs how would you then match that arrow with the correct bow? Thanks for your time.

  • Hi there Richard my name is Kevin and first of i would like to say thankyou for making this channel ive only just come across it, so i have alot of videos to catch up on. Since i was child ive always wanted to make myself a longbow ever since watching robin hood on tv as a child i spent many days finding branches of trees and tying string to it to make a bow so i could hunt down the sheriff of Nottingham 😂 but ive always wanted to make a real one but never new how to go about it and to be perfectly honest im little nervous to start on my own. I have couple of questions and i hope you dont mind if i ask.. Q1). Could you possible explain or make a video explaining the differences between a English victorian yew longbow for competition and a English yew warbow that was made around King Richard 1st era..is the draw length the only difference between the two? Q2). Do you offer a workshop day/week were we can come and learn to make a bow with you, and if so what would the cost be to do so.. Sorry to bombard you with the questions..

    @MrKprobitts@MrKprobitts6 ай бұрын
    • Glad you like the videos. I have explained the difference in many videos, having made 400 I dont think I can remember which ones, have a watch and you will find it eventually. No, our courses are invitiation only at present, we try to teach via our videos and website www.howtomakealongbow.co.uk

  • I have been working with poplar recently and I can say that working with this wood is wonderful. But unfortunately the spine of the arrows they gave me were too weak for my 55# bows.

    @sebastienraymond3648@sebastienraymond36486 ай бұрын
    • Most of the Poplar shafts we sell are suitable up to about 90 lbs or so, that's based on 3/8

      @longbows@longbows6 ай бұрын
    • @@longbows In my case, it was poplar that I had collected in the forest, transformed into a board and then into dowel. Unfortunately, in my case, I have the impression that it was not dry enough. I think I'll dry it longer and start again. It's a really easy wood to work with. 🙂

      @sebastienraymond3648@sebastienraymond36486 ай бұрын
    • Maybe, let me know how you get on.

      @longbows@longbows6 ай бұрын
    • Running them way to thin. 3/8 should get 90 easy. 7/16 gets my well in to the 150# or better. (Yes I actually use spine that high)For drying leave it between 3/4 and 1in stacked to or weighted to dry flat. Takes 9to 12 months for typical 8"x7ft board of poplar to air dry. The longer the better.
