Fix Your Fence Quick, Easy & Cheap! (Under $50)

Here is a quick, easy, and cheap way to fix your fallen down fence. My fence blew down during a strong wind storm and I did not want to spend the money on a brand new fence. It would have cost me about $5K+ to get a brand new one put up but instead this fix only cost me about $50 in materials. My fence wood was still good for another 3-4 years but my posts base was rotten over which broke easily during a wind storm.
I simply used the existing post and cut the rotten bottom pieces off and also cut down the panels to match the height of the shorter post. I then bought these aluminum angles at The local hardware store to use as new supports for the post. This saves me from digging up the concrete in the ground and use them again as a base for the posts. You basically use the aluminum angles and hammer it down at the corners of the concrete base where the posts were cemented in. Then drill the aluminum angles to the post using deck screws and the stainless steal washers.
This fix is a great way to reuse your existing fence panels and salvage your posts.

  • This saved me sooo much work! I tried using an EZ mender but it wasn’t easy at all. Used the slotted angle from your video and it worked like a charm. Thank you!

  • If the fence is a foot shorter than the rest though, how come the after pics look like the fence is aligned? Does this mean you're not resting the cut bottoms of the fence on the concrete but instead spaced with a gap between the concrete and the brackets?

    @unindoji@unindoji2 жыл бұрын
    • The fence that I cut is actually a foot lower then the next panel of fencing. So the posts are actually resting directly on the concrete. By the way, it’s been a few years now and the fence is still hold strong.

  • Anyone knows how to fix leaning fence that is installed between two concrete walk-way?

    @Krasiekj02@Krasiekj024 жыл бұрын
    • This method would work at fixing the leaning posts. Just use extra long metal stakes to give the posts more support and hammer the stakes down as low as you can...then screw them in with deck screws for extra support.

  • Dig out the old post and concrete. Install new post. Pour new concrete. That product doesn’t keep the post dry, it’s a wood treatment like copper green that helps stop fungus. Super cool guy tho and I am not wanting to seem like an ass.

    • As soon as my fence falls again, I will definitely dig out the concrete and put up a new fence. I just didn’t have the funds to do build it out new completely. The temporary fix is holding up though and it’s been over 2 years now....hope it holds for a couple of more years and then I will do it properly :-). Thanks for taking the time to comment though. Have a great weekend.

    • So far so good....it’s the first winter and it’s still standing. There is a lot of high winds in my area since we live by the lake and the ground is sand so it’s holding up with those conditions. I will post an update in the summer.

  • The angle metal you bought is same price of 1 treaded 8ft 4x4 on home depot

    @jakeflo4215@jakeflo42153 жыл бұрын
    • Well 1 angle bracket at 48 inches can make 4x12in pieces. I used 2 per post and I only need to fix 4 posts. The fence is still up, solid and stable after 3 summers and my area get a lot of wind in my area since I live near the lake. If I bought the posts you would still need to buy 4 new ones, plus dig out the old concrete base, then put new concrete....my method only took a few hours to do.

      @DDIY-Guy@DDIY-Guy3 жыл бұрын
    • If you have a 160 lb plug of concrete with a snapped off 4x4, this is much easier than digging it up and re-pouring the concrete.

  • what about round wood psots no one has addressed that

    @RickDanner@RickDanner3 жыл бұрын
    • A flat version of the metal rod that you can get from the hardware store will do the same job. Just use 3 on a triangle position around the post. It will hold it up nice and stable especially if you have existing concrete base in the ground.

      @DDIY-Guy@DDIY-Guy3 жыл бұрын
  • The angle brackets are too short, they need to be at least a foot taller to be effective.

  • 2" x 6" bottom rails. Not pressure treated. You will re-build this fence in as little as 2 years. Just use a little muscle/back work and do it right bro. :"Sika foam" instead of concrete for the NEW posts, and you're good to go man.

    @meatmaster8636@meatmaster86364 жыл бұрын
    • For sure...I’ll get it done properly when I have more funds to allocate for a complete build with 6x6 post. Just didn’t have the time or budget to do it at the time. This video is really meant to be a temporary and quick solution to tie you over for a few years. Thanks for the feedback though.

    • I hope I get 5 years more out of it....that would be great! this was only a temporary and cheap fix until I can get it properly done with 6x6 posts that are properly dug in.

    • It’s still holding up after a few major wind storms and some serious frost this winter. Hope it lasts through the next summer and another winter and I will replace it properly when it comes down again. I just did not have the funds to cover it at this time.
