Just ran into Rick on 233rd and Paulding Ave
He's been from up there for decades. edit: I forget the exact street but he used to have his range rover parked outside his building he owned. It was well known. That's what's up bro, Rick the ruler!!
@@TheBlindSwordsman He lived on Derimer Ave
@@MrWARBUCKS24 I honestly didn't recall, Thanks. I lived up that way for 15+ years and he was well known that way. I've since left that area over 20 years now.
Slick Rick is a true icon. He gotta get his roses
_"But learn this fact, whether white or black, I can't get conquered in my style of rap"_ ~Slick Rick

That's my dude man. he's a once-in-a-lifetime hip-hop Superstar and I don't think people really recognize his talent full circle. His music is timeless like you can listen to that stuff right now and it's still rocks like its original 88. This mini-documentary was 100% slamming

Top 5 greatest to ever do it and don’t @ me! Rick The Ruler!
Slick Rick is my number one artist I've been telling everybody that since then and I'm 32 years old my mom played Mona Lisa while I was born in her stomach and every sense that changed my life that made me want to be a producer off of his first album man it's a classic and the second third fourth album he's a legend on his own right to make person he's like Eddie Murphy playing different roles when it's come to movie acting but what rapping he got different personality different style shout out to Slick Rick the illness to touch the mic
I saw Big Daddy Kane perform at a club in New Jersey in 1989. Slick Rick was hanging out in the crowd and on his way out some dude got a little too close so Rick started to pull out a gun but his boy grabbed Rick's hand and stopped him. I was a couple of feet behind Slick Rick watching the whole thing, so yeah, Ricky D has always been trigger happy.
Great story
Ricky had a shootout at the Castle in the Bronx he definitely was bout that gunplay
The greatest story teller of all time period.✊
Thanks for Watching Episode 002 Salt N Pepa is out now. Next Week Monday at 7pm Big Daddy Kane GIVING THEM THEIR FLOWERS

Best storyteller ever in the hip hop game...He's different
Rick Rubin was also the reason Public Enemy was signed. Russ didn't see the vision of the group at first and thought their style was too bold.
Rick a genius. Brave and fearless.

First time I met Slick, was in the Bronx at a outdoor Divine Sounds show. He had a few chains and gold finger nails, drinking Guinness stout mixed with Old English, hanging with a cat named Trevor Don (RIP).
Yeah! That stout drink was a real Yard thing from Jamaicans back in da day. Drop an egg in there and some Nestle’s Condensed milk to build you up and yu’ ready for anything the world would throw at you!
Loved this so much. Slick Rick is essential listening to me and in the history of hip hop and inspired so many other artists. He was a trend setter and one of the coolest artists of any era or genre.
Appreciate the love please check out the other episodes and subscribe to the channel
I love the music from the 80s. I give THESE men ALL their flowers. 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸Shout out to WBLS 107.5FM for playing Slick Rick's song "A children's story" the other day
I always hoped Dougie Fresh and Slick Rick had produced an album with Chill Will and Barry B. That would have been proper to Hip Hop history. Almost with the "All the way to heaven" which they dropped the ball with the Remix... no new Slick Rick entry.. But I do get now how Doug E Fresh's album "Greatest Entertainer" was produced by the Bomb Squad.. Rick put them on him? Or the other Rick.. Rubin? That Doug Fresh album is bomb. Underrated.
Not sure about that one
They should do it now
All The Way to Heaven is thorough as hell

I LOVE IT! I wish this would be an hour long!!! Dang If Slick wouldn't got locked up; he still would've dropped great hits! The 90s were a perfect time for him to make great hits
that's real talk his delivery or entrance to a song it's just dope.Always staying original ..
Exactly
They knew that
If Def jam lined up Marley marl for mama said what lone producer do you think can handle a Rick project ?
Slick ricky Walters rick is a living legend, there never b another, totally unique in every sense of the word
As far as storytelling goes, slick Rick is the goat. He's the reason I know how to tell stories in my rhymes. He's the reason I love storytelling in hip hop, let alone other music genres.
A credit to the art..nothing short of a genius with his unique style of rap...hail the ruler from the uk.
Of Jamaican heritage from London to Da’ World stage!
Slick Rick Ah yaadmon eno!! Str8!! 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
This was dope... Slick Rick is an all time great MC for sure. "Hey Young World" probably one of the greatest songs ever made in rap and "Great Adventures..." is a top 10/20 all time hiphop album. One thing that I thought they would mention because they played on it a bit, was that "Behind Bars" single that Warren G produced. That song (and the Les McCann sample) was fire 🔥!! The concept of both the song and video were unique and dope.
One of my all time favorites!
I'd love to know more about Vance Wright. He's a low down cool cat man.
Ill working on getting more info about Mr Vance right maybe even do a YT live with him
Definitely My favorite Rapper Hands down. Lyrics. Fashion and content to make you think. Straight and narrow or your soul gets cast . GOODNIGHT
The great adventures of SLICK RICK album stood out the most to me as a kid growing up in the 80s, starting from that dope album cover,I was locked in from the the very first song "the rulers back" classic album without a doubt, big ups to the LEGEND SLICK RICK THE RULER also know as RICKY D,love these videos.
I remember back in 84 hearing slick Rick and Doug's fresh he's one of the very best story teller and mcee of all times much props Rick definitely deserves his flowers 💐
that last track on the video.. it was on the Compliation 'Def Jam greatest Hits vol 1' - that's where I first heard Slick Rick... I played it so much in 1988 .. my brother got so annoyed he said this new rap shit sucks... 2 years later he was buying "the rulers back".
it happens you showed him the way lol
Slick Rick the first to connect hiphop from source to source > No boundaries .. Respect !
In 2023 I am still rocking to hey young world and street talkin❤❤❤
Yassss….The golden years of Rap….bring it back! I love this dude! RICK THE RULER 🙌🏽
Great video with some all time greats from when it was not mainstream. Curiously, Slick Rick was born in London in the mid 60s, just younger than me by exactly 3 years. Our parents are Jamaican and that contributes immensely to Rick’s dynamic sell righteous way of promoting himself from day one. Slick Rick IS in a class of his own, One true yardie who went up town when he hit The Big Apple.

My favorite rapper of all time 🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤
1986 was my first year in High School in Queens, NYC! Just a year earlier, it felt like you could only hear rap music after 11pm or midnight, now Hip Hop was on the radio ALL DAY, and even the White kids into Heavy Metal music at my school were mentioning rap groups they liked. BDP's The Bridge Is Over had dropped, and man, it sucked to be a teenager from Queens, NYC ("....Brooklyn keeps on takin it, and Queens keeps on fakin it!") for awhile!! I remember guys in my class bragging about having cousins from The Bronx or Harlem, as if it gave them some kind of cred!! Ha! Boy I miss that era!
Believe it or not Yah still shines on you.He guides you ,and he watch you as you grew plus pass the age of a lil child that's true.
these cats got me though school and the hood epmd is the wiorld premiere! FRESH FEST!

I was born in DC in 71 & grew up in the DMV/Baltimore & Slick Rick was THE man back in the 80’s…..back then no 2 artists sounded the same & today a lot of (mainstream) rappers sound the same…..Slick Rick’s 1st album with Def Jam is 1 of the best rap albums ever made
I GREW UP IN LANDOVER AND D.C. IN THE 80s AND THIS ALBUM HAD A HUGE IMPACT ON ME. AND IT STILL JAMS TODAY. TIMELESS!
Damn Russell and Rick don't remember. Dana Dane dropped first 1987. Slick Rick dropped second in 1988.
Doesn't mean he recorded first or came up with the style though as they were around one another before anything was released and the work shows Rick is authentic. Only an originator, a brave individual who truly themselves sounds authentic. You can't copy another man's sound and it sound authentic like Rick does. To sum it up, Slick Rick is authentic and noone can do what he does exactly the way he does it.
Loving this one thanks for sharing very information blessed love to all knowledge is power hopefully everyone pays attention keep up the good work just give him the credit and the respect that he deserve a game changer for ever 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
Him and Nas is the greatest Rap Story tellers ever. But Slick Rick is the most sampled Rapper ever.❤❤❤❤
10:02 All-time line up Uncle L, The Ruler, Eric B., and is that Kwame?

It's okay to wear that much jewelry you just have to be willing to defend it. I started rapping because of Slick Rick under Datzilla and just watching this while I prepare for my 2nd project along with Rakim and southern artists I like. I'm 26 so trying to drop from a different angle.
If I wore a eye patch, I would put a mirror on it to shame everyone I talk to.
Lmao Please sub the channel my friend
Long Island Greatness all through this....Kraze, Parrish, Prinnce Paul, and DC3 at Central Station Hank ShockLee.....great Content on Hip Hop...Slick Rick Da Ruler....fun fact...I worked at JFK Delta Airlines with his pops (Slick Rick), Mr. Melvin Supervisor for Security Terminal 2 n 3...
Oh wow!!!
Thanks for this. He's so private I wanted to get more info. Him and Beanie man must be related down the line!
Before Big,Ricky d was my #1. That story telling.
True story I use to see him on the regular on Fordham road way before he has wearing the eye patch he cause me to buy my first pair of Bally's back in the days definitely he's style changer clean and neat not loud but simple well put together from the shoe's to clothes and plus the jewelry hands down Rick the Ruler 👑
The teacher of snoop!
Nah! With respect. East Coast was one thing back then, and West Coast was another til Biggie, Tupac and the rest came along in the mix. A pity there was so much beef out there. Clear to see what’s happening nowadays ain’t nothing but a G thing…
Love it 🥰

Listen - Rick produced as well, something he has rarely got credit for….that style is highly influential today. All his stuff had the singing, scratching, beat boxing.

This is the man.
Would love an album with Dana Dane and Rick as the kango crew or even just a New Slick Rick album be bloody nice
2 of my top rappers Slick Rick and Big Daddy Kane
loved
This guy is one of the top MCs along with Melli Mel,moe dee, kane, chuck d,LL cool j,krs one and Scott la rock, rakim, and don't forget the beastie boys, kool g rap,and so many to mention but late 70s and the 80s and a bit of the 90s was the golden part of hip hop,and then it changed by the infection of gangsta rap, which is ok but no ware near as good as the hip hop days..... Steady b,schooly d,utfo, Roxanne,JVC force,MC lite, just ice,t la rock, jeckle and Hyde, fat boys and epmd.. The hip hop list is endless.....
Its crazy that Rick thinks _Behind Bars_ is wack. That is one of my favorite albums.
