Self-empowerment, reassertion of control: Perception of necessary self-defense, greater good, preemption (anxiolytic), resolution or closure (vengeance, retribution, ledger settling accounts), righteouness.
Raw purity, exaltation, apotheosis (omnipotence), catharsis (Colonel Kurz in Apocalypse Now): sadistic, narcissistic psychopaths.

Interesting topic. Guess end of the day the stronger richer powerful and intelligent elites beat the inferior in the political boxing ring. i.e. survival of the fitest is all there is.. Good and bad is just a human construct / convince which is a narrative that changes from group to group, and people to people based on how strong your nation and government is.
