    • In my opinion, weight training is superior for all the pressing movements, but calisthenics is superior for all the pulling movements. I’ve tried both calisthenics and weight training. Now I only have like 6 months experience with calisthenics, and only like 4 or maybe 5 months experience in weight training, but all I know is that when I do bench press I feel way better stimulation to my chest and I got stronger, but during my 4 months of weight training I dropped pull-ups and replaced them with pull downs, and now I can barely do one pull-up.

      @BabyDontHearnMeNoMore@BabyDontHearnMeNoMore4 ай бұрын
    • @@BabyDontHearnMeNoMore you can barely do a pull up after not doing them because you have to specifically do pull-ups to make them better. Doing pulldowns or any back exercise is barely going to help pull-ups as much as actually practicing pull-ups themself. Edit* (and this is regardless of whether your lats grow doing pulldowns, which is why I made this comment to explain that calisthenics aren’t necessarily better for pulling exercises, it doesn’t stimulate the muscle more it just makes it easier per say to do pull-ups”

  • Bench press is more easily loadable. However the push up just provides amazing stimuli.

    @gtrrohit5078@gtrrohit5078 Жыл бұрын
    • See that sounds like it makes sense...But think about it. How many people can do 100 perfect form pushups at a medium tempo without stopping at all? Very few people. So people think it's easier to load up the bench and push up is just for stimuli cause their push up foundation is trash. Many people only do really fast, sloppy, half rep pushups until they feel a little bit of a burn and then conclude "eh..good warm up. Not a workout tho" of course it's not a workout. Imagine if you treated bench that way. Put on a little bit of weight..do a bunch of sloppy half reps then conclude its not a good workout. That'd be dumb (not directing this at you but anyone who think this way). If you can't at least do 50 slow controlled pushups with solid form then your pushup foundation is not good. With pushups you increase volume. With bench you increase weight. With both you can increase intensity. With pushups you have diamond, pseudo planche, decline, etc. Just these 3 variations will give you an insane pump if you actually do a pretty high volume workout and push the intensity with them. In conclusion, pushups are JUST as easy to load up, people are just ignorant and don't realize that all you gotta do is progressive overload. Use a slower tempo for more time under tension. Use different variations for increased intensity. And use more reps for more volume. And if you still don't believe it, just check out the calisthenics athletes who literally look like gymnasts and they only do bodyweight.

      @SerpentineWisdom@SerpentineWisdom Жыл бұрын
    • @@SerpentineWisdom But your last paragraph sort of proved why it is harder to progressively overload the pushup. Different variations and things like that is more complex vs simply just adding 5kg to each side of the bar. I like push ups more than the BP though, just feel it way more.

      @gtrrohit5078@gtrrohit5078 Жыл бұрын
    • @@gtrrohit5078 Its not though. It's so simple it's fool proof. Do MORE REPS than last time. Simple enough. Right? Is standard way too easy? Do diamond. You get used to that and still want a challenge? Do decline. I would actually argue it's way easier AND simpler to add reps or switch a variation than it is to take the clamp off...grab a 45...put it on...add the clamp. Adding reps, changing variations, slowing down? That's so much easier. Just get on the ground and do it. It takes a millisecond to implement these changes. So no...you're wrong. That's just something people use as an excuse to not have a solid calisthenics foundation but logically that point is invalid.

      @SerpentineWisdom@SerpentineWisdom Жыл бұрын
    • @@SerpentineWisdom I mean whatever you believe in bro I'm not argue, all points are valid to someone who believes in them. I don't even go to the gym I just do calisthenics at home. I am just speaking from experience. Also you cannot just do basic...then diamond...then just decline as a way of progressively overloading. Doing too much of one variation leads to injury, you have to switch between them all. So again, the easiest way for me to overload was to do weighted push ups lol. Easier to track the progress.

      @gtrrohit5078@gtrrohit5078 Жыл бұрын
    • @@SerpentineWisdom actually when you are changing the style. Like if you are good at normal pushups you start doing diamond pushup or decline pushup. You are not increasing the intensity you are changing the muscles which are used. Like diamond pushup will be more on triceps and decline on upper chest. If you want to increase strength of the same muscle then weights are your best option. Doing more reps of a single exercise at some point increase your strength but after that it will only focus on endurance. It will be just like walking in the park. If someone does not have access to a gym or weights then definitely go for callisthenics. Even if someone is a beginner he will have a lot of gains from callisthenics. But their is a limit to it.

  • Push ups. In the long run, bench press creates severe deficits in real world strength. The shouder blades have to be kept retracted during bench press for optimal chest growth and rotator cuff injury prevention. But retracting the shoulder blades and performing the reps cause nerve impulse disfunction problems, in the long run people develop winged scapula. The chest and the shoulder blades lose the ability to function together. That takes years to rehabilitate, many don't have the patience to rehabilitate that much.

    • @Grand Rapids it's all about progressive overload and consistency with training and diet over the course of atleast 12 months. So if you can progressively overload and push to failure or near failure with push ups (and it's diffrrent variables) it will grow your chest. But it's harder to do with pushup as the rep range will get too high, to easily go to failure each workout. Chest training with weights is fairly simple. Train chest 2 times a week. Do anywhere from 9-20 sets per week (so 4-10 sets per session) for chest to 1-3 reps to failure. Warm up the chest muscles and shoudler rotator cuffs. And do 1 or 2 light warm up sets for each exercise first. Barbell bench press 3 "working" sets of 8-12 reps. Incline bench press 3 sets of 8 -12 reps Some sort of fly, either use cables or the fly machine. Dumbell flys are doable too. 3 sets of 10-15 reps. Everytime on the third set you hit the max reps, make note and add weight the next workout. For variety over the 12 months feel free to change up the routine every 4-12 weeks. By change up I mean, either go heavier and do 4-5 sets with 5 reps or lower the weight and do 3 sets but pushing to 15 reps. Or change the exercises for alternatives, like dumbell variations, or Dips. Main thing is consistency and pushing to failure Make sure you are getting atleast minimum protein and calories for growth. Good luck

  • I like push-ups, but I find bench press to be much more effective for building strength and size, while push-ups are better for building muscular endurance. The issue with push ups is that they get too easy, especially if you're already fit (I can do about 60 in 1 set). While doing even more reps, make them difficult again, which stops building as much size or strength as simply adding more weight to a bench press, which has basically no ceiling. Technically, you can do weighted push-ups, but those either hurt my back or are complicated to set up compared to a bench press at the gym. Even when I was a 98-pound twig in 9th grade, I could do like 50+ push-ups in 1 set, but I would barely build any muscle. Once I started lifting weights, however, I was able to put on like 60+ pounds in about 5 years.

  • Daniel is still at it after these years. Impressive. To me, fitness is all about what you do with your built attributes. One doesn’t need much strength to survive the modern world. Basic fitness is more than enough, hence I stick to bodyweight exercises and yoga. If I played a professional sport or built my body to compete in physique competitions, I’ll pick up weights without a doubt. Since those aren’t options in my life, I do a few sets of calisthenics and call it a day.

  • i think that bench press is better than regular push ups for calisthenics, since push ups stop being effective after a while and you gotta find a harder variation, while bench press can sky rocket your push power and helps you almost always to improve your push power and take it to new limits.

    • Add resistance to make pushups, dips, pullups, invert rows etc, harder. I suppose if your a bodybuilder, and want to build unlimited size, then heavy bench presses etc, are probably the way to go. For myself at age 68: l,m just looking for fitness, and keeping in shape, so bodyweight stuff, with added weight, and the odd dumbell exercise mixed in suits me.
