  • Refs just guessing whether to give a stroke or let at this point, about 8 different points all the same with different decisions

  • Makin vs Coll…..that was always going to deliver a belter. Sadly it looked to be watched by a crowd of 3 people.

    • Qatar is usually like that for white people. Makes you wonder why they host it if it's not about the squash

    • Not just in Quatar ! Even on high-class matches anywhere in the world you can see low numbers of visitors. The reason is obvious. Squash never was a huge attraction to the people (except in 80s/90s), but in addition squash-ralleys became much too long and too boring (endless longline and crosscourt ralleys).... Squash associations all over the world have to change the rules for shorter ralleys and a more risky and attracting gameplay....

    • @@petregabriel1098 I think that might be a bit too sweeping as some tournaments such as British Open, Canary Wharf Classic, and Tournament of Champions always look very well supported (and having been to a British Open mid week day I can vouch for it. It was chocka with a really engaged big crowd.) I also don't think the Squash in this day and age is boring. Fast points don't make for great spectacles, it's often the deep rally full of ridiculous recovery shots, and resets followed by more crazy pick ups that are the highlights of a match. I fear it's just that the game has to go where the Tournament funding is globally, and not all those locations actually have a passionate fan base to come out in numbers. Just a shame really for all who ♥️ squash.

  • Phenomenal performance by Makin. So many incredible retrievals on balls that looked to be winners. He looks as if he he's gotten a lot leaner (you can see it in his face) and that's given him an extra bit of speed and fitness to pull him through matches like this.

  • Sublime squash, but stopping after game 2 to say the refereeing is utterly atrocious. Makin and Coll thankfully both playing fair, but the reffing is actively encouraging dangerous situations with the swing, and punishing the wrong player. Gotta do better guys. EDIT. Finished the match and the reffing did not get any better lol. Props to the players for staying respectful and calm for most of it.

  • First of all congratulations to both players on a great game are you watching how a clean game can be played mr as. Secondly where was the audience in this match pathetic if it’s not an Egyptian player, thirdly some awful marking here especially against makin and some poor video referee decisions, apart from that I was on the edge of my seat near the end well done on your win Joel👍

  • Lovely match, any squash player would appreciate the work this two put into their game and fitness. Coll doesn't clear nearly as quickly enough. This led to several stroke/let calls that seemed to get the referee confused. Later he just gave up and handed the responsibility over to the video ref. That didn't help much either. Makin needs to learn how to close games. Coll saving 5-6 match points is ridiculous. Makin even gave away cheap strokes by backing into Coll in the tie break. Closing off jitters maybe? He should be well past that at this stage of his career.

  • What is the strategic purpose of doing 20+ probing shots per rally? To see if your opponent will succumb to boredom before you?

    @kennyg1358@kennyg13587 ай бұрын
    • At this level it's pretty difficult to go for a winner since your opponent is probably quick enough to get it. Forcing a loose shot or even an error gives the best opening to go for a winner because your opponent is out of position. For these two they are some of the best at retrieving difficult shots since they're both so fit, so it only emphasizes more having to force the other out of position through tight accurate shots to the back

      @MrJoel3498@MrJoel34987 ай бұрын
  • Both players rely on hard hitting and lengthy rallies to wear each other out. Not a lot of variation in their games so not many quick points.

  • When two crocodiles face each other, you shouldn't expect a fight between felines to reign over the herd of females. Although Makin attempted a few attacks, rallies would have lasted longer. This type of match should be reimbursed by health insurance, because it largely replaces powerful sleeping pills...🥱 As for refeering, nebulosity of few decisions could not even be solved by the JWST...🔭
