Welcome back to Father Knows Something! Real People. Real Stories. Real Dad advice with a dash of ADHD, and maybe a couple of millennials chiming in from time to time to add their takes.
This week's episode has dad, Morgan, and Justin talking about spooky stories from listeners! From haunted houses to sensing when someone is going to pass, these are some great stories that really get us discussing what is paranormal versus our brains. Or as dad likes to put it, is the manifestation real in plasma or just in our mind electronically. This is a lighter spookier episode that most should be able to listen to.. in the day time at least.

  • Growing up my grandpa had one of those singing fish hanging on the wall. It sang “don’t worry be happy”. Me and my brother played with it constantly any time we visited. In 2021 my papa was meeting the end of his life. He was in the icu and was fading in and out. He was made comfortable and reached the flatline. After holding his hand at the end I left the room to catch my breath. Went to the lobby of the hospital. Another person who was in the lobby cell phone rang, their ringtone was “don’t worry be happy”. I lost it but was so comforted, I knew it was a sign.

  • My best friend of 17 years died in 2015 & I was pregnant with my son, and I happen to be dreaming of her the same night that she passed away… It was a very normal dream. We were kids and we were coloring on paper plates in the kitchen with her grandma and all of a sudden she got a phone call… she stepped outside while she was on the phone and I followed her outside. She asked me to leave because “ she didn’t want me to hear this” And I woke up to the news that she passed away. Something about being pregnant always made me have CRAZY dreams but this one was too wild. I had one more dream of her after that but it was a little darker.

    • Awwww. Thats very sweet & sad! Bffs are sometimes hard to come by! I always lived the quality over quantity fried motto. We had a very small circle of good friends & in our circle we all had our specific person. Actually its funny u mention that, when me & my bff were in HS she had a dream her & I were shopping in Walmart together for Dinner w\my toddler son & debating ICE cream flavors. It was a random weird dream & 1 we chalked up to seeing or hearing something. I had bfs all thru school but I was "infamous" for being a virgin & staying that way. (Random I know & yes I was raised in Purity culture but that was more defense. By the time I was 11yo I had DD breasts & very curvy. So, I ALWAYS had boys & older guys & over grown men commenting on my tits as if it was their right. Wanting to touch me & calling for me to flash them. I've been called EVERY Nick name to do w\breasts including the long lived "Tig-O-Bitties"🤢🤮 So giys were always wanting to screw me & i didn't know that my remaining "pure"🤮 was a draw! But I was bound & determined not to Date a guy who only wanted to nail me. (So to stay) Wow I'm getting WAY off my point. Sorry! Anyways & easy rule of thumb I had was to just NEVER date a guy if they made ANY cmt abt my breasts at ALL to their friends or anyone & it actually served me very well. The guys always cared about me & not just BOOBS! My point for that Long tangent is that there was NO ACTUAL reason to think of me being pregnant so young bc I wasn't having sex & hadnt planned to. Ffw a yr down the rd & 2y into dating my now husband of nearly 19y, & I got preg my sr yr of HS. Literally the 1st time we ever had sex. So yes I'm a very trite statistic! 🤣 So my friend & I thought that was kinda funny & chalked it up to coincidence. Ffw 2 &½more years & she's just gotten married & I go to her house bc they just got married & moved in & decide to cook dinner for them at their place so we go to Walmart w\my now almost 2y old son & we're standing there debating if we get ice cream for dessert or no while my baby son chattered happily & pointed to his fav ice cream. Both her & I immediately stopped & looked at each other like OMG 😳🤯 still most likely a coincidence but it was just such a specific dream that really wasn't preceded by any meaningful trigger. I obviously didn't see what she saw just her explaining but she was also VERY mindblown & a liitle spooked maybe bc she Said that the image of us in the store was pretty much EXACTLY how she dreamt it yrs ago & it was so vivid it stuck forever. Now I know ppl exaggerate but even when are had the dream it REALLY stuck out bc of how vivid it was & she described it to me too. Also, you'd have to truly KNOW my bff to get why this wouldn't be a thing she'd make up or exaggerate. She was definitely a TON more the shy, reserved, Christian goody 2shoes more than me! But I was never shy or quiet & a bit more wild than her in how outgoing I was. I saw it as my mission in life to bring her out of her shell tho I'm sure I traumatized her in the crazy scenes I put her in w\my antics. But anyways, so she never really believed in supernatural or paranormal except for how it related to God which was forbidden or demon in our Cult😉ure! So, she'd never make up something like that. Anyways, sorry got the VERY long & rambling msg in regards to your very touching memory! I'm sure she loved u VERY much & didn't want u hurt! & Things of this nature definitely give credence to some unexplainable phenomenons. ❤

  • My dad passed last year. I told him after passing that if he's happy to send me a mouse (I don't really live in a place where there would be any mice). I scoffed when I said it because if you knew my dad, he's not the hocus pocus type. I'm also not someone who looks for signs because we're latching on to something to make us feel better. I forgot this almost as quickly as I said it. A couple months later had completely forgotten I had done this and was having a hard time with family and feelings. My best friend called me to ask for some advice. She had found a small nest of field mice at her office and said "something told me to call you because you'd know how to care for these little guys so we can relocate them". She kept me utd on how they were doing till the weather got warmer so she could release them. The day she released them, my secret request to my dad came back to me! Did he have my best friend show me his sign?! I like to think so

  • Growing up, my family would always say that if you saw a red cardinal or male cardinal, that your loved one is near, and I have noticed a lot in my life that I see them around just all the time, and it always brings me some sort of comfort because I feel like a family member is watching over me

  • The stories about the dogs reminded me of a few years ago my mum used to take our dog for a run every morning. He loved running and wouldn't stop running for nothing, except for one morning they were running past a hardware store and he stopped, turned towards the shop and sat down and wouldn't move. My mum eventually dragged him away and they got home...that exact same afternoon a helicopter crashed into the building killing everyone on board

  • The doppelgänger thing rings so true. My Poppa’s doppelgänger is, and always has been, Robin Williams. It’s scary how alike they look. Whenever I’m missing him, I’m so lucky to have to many great movies to curl up and watch. Every since he died, I can never get through one without sobbing at some point.

  • Wow the first story makes me remember what happened to me as a child. I was 7-8 & I woke up in the middle of the night & saw my mom standing in the doorway of me & my little brothers room telling me to come give her a hug so I did & when I went to put my arms around her she disappeared I got so scared I ran into her room screaming crying where she was in bed sleeping. One of the scariest moments of my life to this day. I get goosebumps everytime I think about it.

    • That's crazy, something similar happened to me! I vividly remeber seeing my mum standing near the door and looking at me, it wasn't that unusual since they usually peeked in to be sure we were sleeping. That time though she didn't answer my "goodnight" and kept looking. The morning after I asked her why shewas acting that way and both my parents told me they never went to check on us

  • My mom passed around 2 months ago. I was extremely close to her. We could look at one another and know what the other is thinking. Early May, I just had this feeling. Depression and anxiety hit me hard, but with no real reason. I also have a 2 yr old and 3yr old.... Keeping up with them is exhausting. My mom was hospitalized for half of May, all of June, and majority of July and was readmitted twice. I knew in May that I wouldn't have her around much longer. My neck would break out (and still breaks out in hives every 2 weeks like clockwork.... Only the handful of doctors I've seen for it say it's not hives and no idea why it's happening), and I've never experienced any skin reaction. My mom's nurse called me on a Fri evening saying she's dying and has a week. My mom and I talked (her mostly consoling me) and I promised her I'd see her in the morning. At midnight my sister called me sobbing saying i needed to get there (I was an hour away). I was on speaker, driving, and the last thing my mom ever said was, "I love you, Klarissa" (me). When I got there, she lost consciousness and never regained that. I wish I had gotten there sooner....she passed early monday morning. 5 minutes before I got the call, I sat up in bed and just knew.... It was the first time I had gone home since Friday and knew my mom would not pass in front of me or my sister. So we had gone home Sun night. My 3 yr old was extremely close to her. He had his own name for her. There's times where I'll see him and my 2 yr old almost having a conversation with.... The wall? They'll be so excited (like they were to see her). My 3 yr old will say the name he called her... so I wouldn't doubt that she checks in on them. Even Gus (our dog that adored her) will get excited and whiney in the kids' bedroom with no one in there (I can see on the baby monitor) and he'll turn his head like the way he did when she'd talk to him. So I absolutely think animals and kids are way more aware than we are. Love the podcast (and THT) Lots of love 💗

  • I would love to add my own story. My father passed from suicide about 16 years ago, when I was about 7 years old. He's missed a lot of important moments in my life, and I've always questioned wether or not he was watching me from the great beyond. The night of his 15th anniversary I had a dream of him. I was showing him around my college campus and talking about my plans to graduate that May. He turned to me and told me we was so proud of me, that he was sorry, and that I had grown up so strong without him by my side. I could feel the tears streaming down my cheeks, and it woke me up. I checked the time, it was the exact time that he had passed, on the 15 year anniversary of his death. It was only a month later that my grandpa would pass (my dad's dad) and only days later my apartment would be FILLED with ladybugs. Even now, a year later, I swear everytime I talk to him outloud or think about him, I look up and there is a ladybug on the ceiling above my head. I truly believe there something out there in the great beyond.

  • Sleep paralysis is NO JOKE!!! I have episodes and is absolutely terrifying. In my head I am screaming for help but I'm actually not making any sound at all. I can feel the tears running down my cheeks. I fight to try and move and I can't. My daughter witnessed an episode one night and she freaked out. And with all of my other health issues, she's seen some crazy, scary shit in her short 15yrs. She said my eyes were closed but she could tell I was trying to move and open them. I can't breathe. It's probably by far one of the scariest things I've been through and I've been dead multiple times. At least with those I felt more of a peaceful, euphoric feeling. Buuutttt....watching my heart being shocked back into rhythm ranks up there pretty fucking close to sleep paralysis.

    • I used to have it a few years ago during a more turbulent depressive time, and in that time I tried the method I read online of trying to repeatedly clench and release fingers or toes and it gradually works to snap me out of it. May not work for everyone, but I found that simply having something small that I could focus on doing was in itself a help. Trying to move your limbs and failing evokes more of a panic response, which I think makes it worse than it needs to be. Just saying "okay, let's just exercise whatever tiny piece of our body that we can, over and over, and forget about moving anything else" might help anyone in a similar position. For me, I only had faint access to my toes, but it was enough. If you end up succeeding at slowly coaching yourself through it, it makes such a difference for your morale if it happens again.

    • @vindifference there are a lot of true crime KZheadrs making videos this week about sleep paralysis. I saw two more videos today....well yesterday technically. Lol I'm an insomniac so I just have one really long day for most of the week. 🤦‍♀️ Since finding out that it was indeed the PITA of SP I have tried to just focus on trying to move one hand. Sometimes it works...it takes an eternity in my brain but it does work. And since I can move my right hand when I pass out because of my shitty broken heart, and the situation presents very similarly but lasts a lot longer, I thought maybe it would work with the SP and again, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. Even when it does, until it's over it's still terrifying.

  • Hey Jerry, I’ve had many ghosties and I’m a physic medium at this point so I figured I could answer your question from the first story. Most of the time we see and hear things through our minds eye, it’s not a physical apparition. I like to think of it like it’s an over lay from some space to our space, we can sometimes see things from other realms or dimensions or whatever, but usually they need a lot of energy to make things happen physically, so it’s easier to trick our minds eye and save that strength for needing to move stuff around. Also , let’s all remember we are the ones blessed enough to have a body which is why they sometimes mess with us, it’s entertaining. But we are in charge ❤ people who have their minds eye open and working tend to see ghosties more for this reason, it takes less energy to have them present themselves to us.

The night of my grandma passing she came to me in a dream and told me everything would work out fine 🥲 I see magpies (her fave bird/animal) all the time when I’m thinking about her or having a tough day! • I’ve had the worst cases of sleep paralysis. Two of which terrify me to this day. One I was laying in bed with just enough light shinning through my shutters to see my surroundings. I couldn’t move and then I saw a really scary girl crawling around my bed. Finally she made it to my side of the bed and she grabbed my arm and would take deep sniffs. This until she got to my armpit and I remember the pressure of her fingers and puffing of her exhales. I broke out of paralysis but could still feel the tingling from the tickling sensation from her breath on my underarm.

  • I used to experience something similar to the last story. My mom used to live in an old miner town. The plot was said to have been the old speakeasy/brothel of the town right behind what is now the liquor store. I would hear big boots walk up the stairs from the basement and then walk upstairs above my room (there was a basement but no upstairs) and sometimes they would open my bedroom door or the door to the basement. My mom heard the same things and she would see a man with a black hat and long black coat at the end of the hall or at the front door

We were hanging out in the living room, and she shrieked and ran up the stairs with a plastic grocery bag doubled knotted to her head. No one was downstairs, and we didn't go down for days, not even my parents.

  • I get sleep paralysis very at least twice a month, but when I was little, I used to sleep walk and shake the doorknob of my parents bedroom door until they opened it and once they opened the door, I would hug my dad, but never touch him, just let my hands lightly tap the air around him. My dad was terrified of me but had to check up on me because if he did not come out, I would hit myself against the walls. When we moved, I never slept walked again. We later found out that the house we lived in was transported into the land after the original house was burned down. My dad also saw a mans shadow in that house and an owl would come to my parents window every night.

At least once a month, usually more, we will see one or more of the newer babies barking at that corner, but not super alarmingly. Just like when someone new is met. Then one or more of the “originals” will come into the room, look at that corner, wag their tail, snort, and get onto the couch. The newer one that was barking will stop. Only the ones that knew Demon (our first Siberian’s name) will react positively and calm the ones who never met him down. This one hundred percent proves it is him, to me. I love having him here ❤

  • I went to New Orleans with my husband (fiance at the time) and our siblings. That day, we decided to enter a few shops and explore the city. We entered a voodoo shop, and there were things all around us that we're not allowed to touch. We didn't touch them. We didn't feel anything weird, and we had a great time until we all got home from the trip. My husband called me early in the morning telling me we should've never entered the shops, specifically the voodoo one, because something came home with him. My husband rarely dreams and experiences paranormal things... but that day he was petrified. There was a dark entity that woke him up from his sleep and held him down and stared directly into his eyes for several minutes. He said that it's eyes were orange and they were glowing. • A couple of years ago I was in a really bad place mentally so I started experiencing sleep paralysis, exploding head syndrome and would wake up gasping for air. I was experiencing it every night and it was so bad I was afraid of falling asleep, it was annoying more than scary. Thank god the first time it happened I only saw light, I'm a psychologist so after the first time I knew what was going on and refused to open my eyes but the audio hallucinations were awful. I learned how to control it and get out of it faster but would still get a bad headache the whole day. Now I only get them when I'm stressed but it's still an experience I wish no one goes through.

  • I believe there’s energy that exists around us that we cannot see. I’ve physically been hugged by a spirit during a time of immense loneliness in my youth. I could not see them but I could feel them. The amount of love and warmth I felt from them was so intense, there are no words to describe that feeling. I think about it often and it still brings tears to my eyes. This is my personal experience and I WISH everyone on the planet could share the same. I’ve also had moments in my youth of premonition. At random moments I would be able to know what was going to happen minutes before they did. The moments were nothing crazy, just things like knowing who was going to walk down the hall away and knowing exactly what they were going to say. I used to tell my friend these things before they happened and every time I was spot on. She told me I was a wizard. Lol. I don’t experience this much anymore. But I definitely think it’s something everyone can tap into.

  • Stories 2 and 3 reminded me of what happened to my Great-Uncle in 1987. For those who aren't from Canada, in Edmonton AB (July 31, 1987) there was a massive tornado that destroyed parts of the city and killed many. My uncle was staying in a hotel for a business trip when he heard the sirens to get to a safe place, he hid under a table as he didn't know what to do and started praying. He suddenly got this horrible feeling and looked up to see a dark cloudy figure towering above him, it felt like this figure wanted him to get tf out of there. So he told me he ran from the hotel (the tornado was near his location...) got into his car and drove to the nearest safety center. Well, guess what place was completely destroyed with a few fatalities that night? Yup, the very hotel my uncle was staying at. To this date, he isn't sure what the figure was whether it was a ghost/demon or guardian angel. Whatever it was saved his life and he is a big believer in the paranormal to this date.

    • @@kellyjean1554I wholly believe that some mediums/psychics or people with gifts like premonitions are either getting those powers from demonic entities, or through the Holy Spirit. I never thought about it that way until more recently, but opening yourself up to another dimension willingly always puts you in danger of being in contact with negative entities. I've never been a very religious person, but seeing a lot of people on tiktok using tarot cards and answering questions for people is a bit sketchy if they haven't been born with this ability to do. It's all real and scary, and it's shameful that people pretend to have these abilities when they don't because they're at risk of getting in touch with evil, all due to their greed and desire to take advantage of people. I've watched a lot of interviews with people who used to learn how to do those practices and shared how it impacted them later on and those they love.

  • I had to close myself off when I was about 8 or 9. I was at my great grandma's house. My nana and uncle Josh lived there at the time. My little brother and I often stayed in my nana's room. That night my uncle josh was gone. I do not have sleep paralysis at all nor does my nana. My nana and I often talked to each other at night as we tried to fall asleep. Suddenly, the door swung open and the closet door started opening/ shutting. There was a dark figure in the doorway of the bedroom. My nana said "josh stop joking" but we soon realized it wasn't him. There was NO WAY it could have been my great grandma, she couldn't walk up stairs at the time. She had a picture of Jesus that literally fell off the wall that night. I just remember telling it to go away. Weeks prior I remember seeing the spirit of a little boy around my brother as well. I think I closed myself off that day as I never saw anything of the sort ever again. I feel presences, but never see it unless it is a good spirit. I get signs from now dead family members often. But that was absolutely terrifying. Looking back, I wonder if something happened in that house. I often think the little boy was protecting my brother.

  • My Uncle was killed in 1979. I was born about ten years later. No one in my family talked about him because it was too painful for them. No pictures, no whatever. As a little child, I was staying in 'his' old room at my Grandmother's in the mornings to get on the bus, and I was terrified of walking down that hallway in the dark. Then I saw a glowing blue light, knew it was my Uncle and everything would be just fine. I would not stop talking about him, and scared my family pretty well since I shouldn't know about him at all. I saw him while caring for my Gram, multiple times. He's been there for all the big events, somehow, and I think of him any time I hear Hotel California. He's not the only spirit I've seen or sensed though, just the first I remember. I've seen an aunt, my Grandfather, heard a little girl laugh in my room... What's interesting is that I have Aphantasia, and I can't see anything in my Mind's eye.

I never felt scared or threatened of it and I had asked a medium about it. The medium told me it was a female figure and it was someone that had recently passed and cross pathed with and the figure told the medium to tell me she was going to leave soon after she knows I will be okay. And that i will know who she is when the time comes. I still don’t know who it is yet but I have an inkling. Ever since then I haven’t had the figure come into my dream state anymore either.

  • The fourth story where she knew things would happen, that kind of happens in my own family as well. Every time the first born girl will have a child, the mom will ALWAYS have a dream about it first. My first pregnancy (had 2 miscarriages), my mom knew it before I told her. And the death thing as well. When my one cousin passed away, I was at my mom's house which was rare due to my circumstances at the time. I received a message on FB from their husband telling me to ask my mom to pick up the phone because it was important. When my grandma passed, I got a call from my brother saying I should come up to see her since she was getting sicker (had cancer). I've been offered to go up multiple times but never had a chance nor wanted to because I HATED seeing her so sick and unable to speak....so I said screw it and I went up and decided to stay the night because something didn't feel right, we all had that feeling that she wasn't going to make it. She died that night and EVERYONE was saying she was waiting on me to say goodbye which killed me. I was probably one of the closest grandkids to her and it still makes me tear up when I think about it because she was suffering for so long. When my second cousin died just last year, I had a dream that just kept telling me to wake up. I woke up at like 6:04am which I NEVER did. I always woke up super late (12-2pm usually). I laid in bed for 30 minutes before my mom called and told me my cousin was killed. The shots were heard about 10 minutes before I woke up. I always feel like that, despite the circumstances, I'm ALWAYS there or awake when things like this happen. I don't even believe in the stuff but after having these things happen, it's starting to feel more and more real. Scary fact of the day: Both my cousins were the eldest female out of their siblings and died exactly 4 months following their 38th birthday. I'm 29 so I have a few years left I guess :')

They still had a home phone and answering machine, and there was a message from my grandpa on the phone telling my grandma that he loves her and that he is okay. Same night, grandpa came into my moms dream: she always sees him at a farmhouse, on a porch around sunset, young and vibrant and he told her to take care of my grandma. All of his daughters and my grandma saw him either in a dream that night, or woke up and physically saw him there and told them something different. None of them knew until the next morning that he came to see them all. Many times when my mom is going through a hard time, she cries when we talk and says she wishes her dad would come back to that farmhouse in her dream and talk to her (she's told me about 3 times it's happened, but it's been a while since the last visit).

Whenever they made a pound cake and it came out perfect (the sides of the cake didn’t stick to the pan) someone we knew died or was close. The perfect cakes were given to the grieving family. When it came out messy everyone was fine and healthy. The whole family knew it, the cake recipe was always requested at family events and they knew when mama didn’t bring it to events they knew why. It took us years to realize it wasn’t the recipe but the pan because we had gotten a newer pan to make multiple cakes at a time and they came out perfect while the old pan was messy. My grandma always said if it didn’t come out messy it wasn’t good. Also I didn’t know what explosion head syndrome was until now and I have it!! It happens occasionally but I hear my kids screaming and they will be asleep, I heard my name being screamed once by an unknown voice and then loud sounds that sound either like a gun shot or similar to the wreck I was in years ago.
