  • Gibbs and Reynolds deserved this game, shout out O-line. You could see how much Jahmyr wanted to get into the endzone the whole game. 💪🦁 So much for not taking RBs in the 1st round.

    @penultimate8643@penultimate86436 ай бұрын
    • It would seem that you fail to understand the argument against taking RBs in the first round. It's not that these backs don't have talent. Far from it. It's never been a talent issue. It's about the longevity of the position. The average NFL RB lasts about 2-3 years in the NFL. Even the really good ones are often done before their 10th year. There are rare cases, like Adrian Peterson, etc., who play well beyond age 30, but those guys are the rare exception to the rule. The argument is: Why waste a 1st round pick on a guy who is not likely going to see a second contract with the team unless he turns out to be one of the rare few who buck the trend when you can take a QB (most good QBs play about 15+ years), OL (can play well into their late 30's, but mid-30's is more likely), DB (lowest average career length on defense, but still higher than RBs), LB, DL, etc.? All of these positions have a higher chance of still playing into their early 30's or beyond at a starter level, if they're good. The thing about RBs is, they take hits a lot more than other positions do, and their bodies wear out a lot faster than many other positions. They're usually done or falling off by or before age 30. No one is denying Gibbs is talented. Heck, I love the kid. But as far as getting 10+ years out of him goes, that's unlikely. Even WRs last longer on average. It's just not a smart choice, especially with a high first round pick. That kind of pick is meant to get a cornerstone player who you hope will play 10-15 years at a high level, not 3-10 max. That said, it's not Gibbs' fault the Lions took him too high. He can only control how he performs. I do hope he goes on to prove everyone wrong about him and has a 10-15 year career and ends up in the HOF someday. God knows the Lions haven't had that kind of RB in a long time. It's just that the odds do not favor him doing so.

      @james_ford86@james_ford866 ай бұрын
    • @@james_ford86I get the point of not drafting an RB in the first for sure. But when a guy like Gibbs is there who is Kamara 2.0 it is worth taking a chance on him when u have a solid team like Detroit did before the draft. He could be the key piece at a playoff run or even making it to the super bowl which would mean that 1st round RB could save the head coach OC GMs job. Not saying it is a smart idea because it is dumb in most cases but Gibbs and Bijan are both worthy of 1st round picks. Once in a generation talent. But when u look at the big picture O line and QB is where u should spend a 1st round pick and occasionally a beast D linemen or DB

      @shotty5873@shotty58736 ай бұрын
    • @@shotty5873 Your point is invalid. Alvin Kamara, along with almost every other impact RB in the league today, was taken in rounds 2-7. Kamara himself was taken in the 3rd. The point is, if you can find players like Kamara after the 1st round, then there's no reason to waste a 1st rounder on a RB. Plus, it's not like the Lions are stacked everywhere else, despite them playing well this season, and were just a RB away from being Super Bowl contenders. They could certainly use a good DT to pair with McNeil, another CB to start opposite Sutton, etc. These are positions worth taking above RB in the 1st. Now, again, I'm not saying I don't like Gibbs. I do like him, a lot. But it is still bad value to take a RB that high, especially when you have other needs at positions that will still be playing at a high level long after Gibbs is gone. If he contributes to a Super Bowl, has a long career, and goes to the HOF, that's great, but it still doesn't change the fact that taking a RB that high is a huge gamble with longer odds of paying off into that kind of player.

  • Great to have a team the fans can get rabid about for a change. If they make the playoffs this year and lay an egg I won't be too mad. Reason being is you can see what Brad Holmes and Dan Campell and company are building here. They are building a team for many great seasons ahead and they just keep getting better and better. The offense just spreads the ball out and they have so many weapons. It's exciting. The defense is also pretty solid but could have used some help at the deadline more than the offense. 3 running backs that can move the ball? 3!!! What an exciting time to be a Lions fan. Doubtful it will be this year. But there is a Superbowl win in the future.

  • Anyone else notice Campbell say something to Gibbs at the very start of this vid and Gibbs doesn't even look at him... Not at all. Smh. We are changing and evolving as humans. Bizarre... Good thing. 189 total yards. Nobody look anybody in the eyes if they were born after 2000

  • If some of those guys would spend more time trying to, you know, actually _tackle_ the ball carrier, the other side might not make as many yards. I've seen 4, 5, 6 & 7 yards lost because some DB was trying to strip the ball instead of making a tackle.

  • We should've absolutely buried that team by 40 pts. The fact Las Vegas actually kept that game in question til the end was absurd. With only A few minutes left, we had nearly out gained them on offense by 400 yrds. The whole thing was absolutely ridiculous. It's a really good thing the Raiders suck, because despite the eventual win, despite all the one-sided dominance...Lions really blew alotta that game. We were beyond atrocious in the red zone, & gave them every opportunity to stay in the game we possibly could have. And the awful fact is...a good team probably would've beat us tonight.
