A Magnificent Lion Pride Lies In Wait To Ambush Prey | The Lions Of Etosha | Real Wild

2017 ж. 30 Шіл.
7 956 971 Рет қаралды

There are about 500 lions living in the Etosha Pan, this is the story of how they live together and an account of the family affairs of one pride in particular. The lions of the Ombika pride are a nineteen-strong family, we see how the pride lives, protected by two magnificent males, how it brings up its cubs and teaches them to hunt. The Ombika pride, named after one of Etosha's waterholes, is dominated by two immense males, each weighing 550 lb. One is gold maned, the other black. This is their story.

    • Yes, the females often mate with more than male in the pride. That means cubs are often siblings (same mom) and also cousins (different fathers). When the young males are driven out of the pride, they leave together and will spend the rest of their lives together. Females usually stay with the rest of females for the rest of their lives. Prides are made up of mothers, grandmothers, great grandmothers, sisters, aunts and cousins. 🦁

    • @@rachelschwebach7566 yes BUT they are saying the Cubs have different fathers IN THE SAME LITTER !!! How does that work,1 lion fertalizes 1 egg and a different egg is fertilized by another Male,so the female is made pregnant by 2 Male lions at the same time!!! That's just mad,I know the females will mate with both males BUT I'd never would have thought that both could impregnate her at the same time.

      @davidmellish3295@davidmellish32954 жыл бұрын
    • Yes they do that so both male lions treat the cubs as there own. Bc sometimes the dominate male will go on pratol for days so the less dominate male will mate with the in heat females.

I watched a documentary about brothers, & they used different lions. 1 scene the lion had half a tail. Next scene, his tail reappeared. SMH!

  • I bought a copy of this documentary on a VHS tape and copied it to dvd after first watching it in the early 90s. Excellent documentary. This and the stuff the late Joan and Alan Root filmed at Mnzima Springs on hippos.

  • A wonderful film. Des & Jen Bartlett were a wonderful Australian wildlife camera team who filmed epics for Survival Anglia. The Lion pride has plenty of prey in their territory yet the Zebra, Wildebeest and Spring bock, are not easy to hunt and Elephants and the rare Black Rhino give the preditors the run around the water hole at night.

  • Wonderful story! My favorite scenes are: Young preteen elephant "intimidating" the loin pride (with the weight of mother, aunts amd older sisters to back her up" (smiling) And...a preteen little rhino playing with lion cubs around the watering hole! Plsy is the universal language of most all baby animals

    • @@herbertemberga8290 lol you can't gather male Lions together .. that will most likely end up the majority of them dying. I say humans camp out and snipe the poachers. I would most definitely take that as a job lol they should get training in how to interact with all the animals (if there's a situation that they get stuck in) etc..
