  • Hand sanitizer scene aside, I don’t think this is why Tony avoids being handed things. IRL, executives and others often avoid being handed any documents by unfamiliar people because they could actually be accepting a document from a person acting as a process server - someone handing them a legal summons. It’s technically not effective, but can be used as a delay tactic.

As you'll recall, Homecoming ended with Aunt May seeing him in his suit and also going "what the f-" before being cut off as well, and it didn't seem like her character was under the same clauses as Spider-Man, so it was more of a returning gag there than anything else it seems.

  • Honestly I assumed someone handed Tony something dangerous when he was younger. Like a type of bomb, or anything else that would directly harm him. An incident with glass maybe? Or someone quickly shoved something into his hands and Tony ended up blamed for whatever it was. Even someone having to set it down first can change the result of the encounter, and it gives Tony time to figure out if he's willing to touch whatever it is. His aversion to being handed things made sense to me with how many people try to kill him on screen, let alone before Iron Man 1. Just because we didn't see it on screen does not mean people haven't tried to kidnap/kill/otherwise harm Tony before. After all, he grew up in the spotlight as the genius child of a rich family before himself becoming an even richer man.

When you can catch 10 out of 10 with your off hand, do both hands at once. Once you can do 10 out of 10 with both hands at the same time, you're golden. And it probably won't even take you more than a couple hours. Tom Hiddleston had DAYS of fight choreography training, so he probably had long ago mastered the knife flip, and just kept that trick in his back pocket for a rainy day.

  • 7:37 Wooden spoons have completely different balance. So, flipping things in my hands is a habit I have, albeit mostly water bottles. The balance of the knife is in the blade, as it should be, which allows more maneuverability and accuracy when in use. When flipping these the handle flips around the blade, allowing it to be caught more easily. A wooden spoon or ladle is usually the same lighter material throughout, and has a balance dead center. With most cooking this doesn't matter, but I don't think I could flip these. It would move to fast, and be too hard to predict. Lower mass, higher speed for same momentum.

    @rmt3589@rmt3589 Жыл бұрын
    • I used to like to flip a small claw hammer, smack the handle to reverse the direction in midair, then catch it. The thing is, because of the way it was balanced, if I tried to just catch it without the reverse, I'd drop it almost every time. As you said with the spoons, it was moving too fast.

  • There is a second reason Tony Stark does not like things handed to him....in the US when someone sues you in court you are "served" the papers by a process server who has to hand the papers directly to you as the person being sued, or directly to your Lawyer if they are already known to the court. :)

    @CappyLarou@CappyLarou Жыл бұрын
    • To add to this, a process server must also ascertain your identity as well. It isn't enough to just hand them papers, they have to get you to acknowledge your identity, which they do in creative ways. This is also a rule when you are being arrested by Police; the acknowledgement of identity. In the US and many countries Law is largely governed by The Uniform Commercial Code (UCC). A flesh and blood human being is obviously not a product but can be made a product by taking responsibility for a name which is why social security numbers, drivers licenses, IDs, Passports, and Birth Certificates are in ALL CAPS. By identifying yourself you are tying ourself to the ALL CAPS name and now they can apply charges/debts to the ALL CAPS name. Yes, there is a reason you are "Charged" with a crime.

    • I legit ended up with PTSD as a kid from answering the door without knowing the person was a process server- hey, is your mom home? Called for mom, not knowing better, ended up with an eviction notice. I refused to answer the door for _years_ because of that. I still get a little moment of panic if someone knocks and I'm not expecting them, even as an adult. I know serving notice is important for the legal system to actually work, but holy hell, I loathe process servers like that. Like, they knew damn well a little kid had no reason to think they were someone that couldn't be trusted.

    • @@marcmontalvo787 The part your Dad forgot to tell you was that he then had to go to court and prove that the person he served the papers to was the actual person being served. I get it, most people do not know their rights and would never think to have them prove they were actually served, but it raises questions when the "served" person doesn't appear in court and the process server doesn't get paid.

But I'm not really a germaphobe. I don't like the light push down on my hand when being handed stuff. Unless it's something heavy that would cause more difficulty to lift it up from the ground, I'd prefer people to put the item down first before I get them. When I'm at a cashier, I would pretend my hands are busy with my purse or deliberately browse more items so the cashier will have no choice but to put down my change on the counter instead of passing it on my hand.
