Surprisingly Pretty Olive Wood Dish - Wood Turning
Just a cute little dish for holding change or keys. Almost cost me my arm, though! OK, it was my fault, but... LOL! Finished in Feed & Wax.

Thank you Phil, it sucks getting old. The adverse is we are still here, making a mark in our old age. God Bless and stay safe.
For sure, Joey! 😊
Good to hear you are feeling better. I'm 70 and at this age you never know what will go wrong. Keep on turning 🤠
Even if things go wrong, we are still here, James! 😊
Olive it when Fhil turns out a new video.
I see what you did there! 😉
Brilliant! X
This joke is the pits…
Eggcellent dad joke
LOL! 😊
I haven't watched the video yet, but I'm about to. But before I do, I just have to show my appreciation for your words of encouragement: Thank you, Mr. Phil. I offered to give you a piece of Pecan a while back to which you told me about how much wood that has been donated to you and that I should give it a go myself with making a bowl. Well, with your tips and, technically through watching your techniques, I turned my first bowl shortly after. I have not only turned bowls, but I've turned lids for some of those bowls, and I see no end in sight for my love of this hobby. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for giving me the push that I needed to try something new and I am eternally grateful for your help in doing so.
Woowoo! Another turner is created! Good for you!
@@nikburton9264 I've been turning for the last 4 years, but I've only recently had enough "know-how" I guess you'd say to give bowls a try. I always talked myself out of them, telling myself "Well, I need all of these tools that I don't have to do it, so why bother when I already know I'm going to fail?" Then I offered that piece to Mr. Phil, and he told me I was well-prepared with what I had to turn a bowl. I gave it a shot with a piece of scrap, and now I'm about 10 bowls deep at this point. I LOVE my lathe. There's no therapist in the world that has or could provide me with the therapy that my $400 Wen lathe has given me. Best. Hobby. Ever.
This is so good to know, thank you! Now, go forth and conquer every piece of wood you can get your hands on! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Yes sir!
@@Ivegotwormsinme I turned bowls, pens etc back in the 90s when I was in the Navy. I had a small no name lathe stolen from me on Guam, then made my own. I finally burnt up the motor on it. Then when I retired from the USN I was broke. I finally saved up enough, while keeping my bills manageable and sent away for a brand new Laguna 18/36. Just in time for the supply chain issues. It took 6 months to get here. I no sooner got it together and fired up then had a heart attack. Now it's cold, and my shop has no heat. But my daughter and son in law are coming over to hook up a woodstove for me and stack up a cord of crap hardwood for fuel. So hopefully next week I'll finally be turning again.
Olive has the best smell and touch. Sometimes the piece just doest cooperate but watching you turn is always good. Thanks Phil!
Thanks 👍
Here's hoping you have a wonderful full year of entertaining and educating all of your subscribers. Keep smiling
I hope so too! 😊
Olive wood bowl that looks like an olive! Genius

Good evening, Phil. I enjoyed the visit to your shop again. This project looked to be the right size for getting back to turning. Beautiful. I hope you heal completely. Your videos inspire me to do better. Take care.
Thanks for stopping by and watching, Ray! 😊
Love that olive… never very large. Hope to see 52 more videos this year …. No rest!
Haha, thank you, Alan! 😊
Such a cute piece, I love how it looks. As I've said before, you inspire us all with your videos and your attitude. How many of us would have looked at the small plain log and just used it for firewood. Keep it up and be careful, don't want you back in hospital again.
Thanks, David! Doing pretty good! 😊
Sweet and adorable, Phil. Love it!
Many thanks! 😊
Wishing you and me many many 2023 videos to make and watch. Happy New Year. And continued quick healing. Enjoy, my friend!
Thank you, Dick! 😊
I knew it was going to turn out beautifully. That would be the perfect dish for my rings.
Cool, thank you, Kathleen! 😃
Don’t know how I missed this one! Lots of olive wood here in Las Vegas! You did it proud! Thanks Phil!
I just didn't know that, Kelly until Dan offered to bring me some from LV. I thought it only grew in far away places. 😃 I have a few more Olive pieces in this playlist if you have missed them: kzhead.info/channel/PLX4bPjUe1ImdzROQ1hpw5pBuojtgJ6Nf6.html
small, simple, but elegant.
😊
Negative rake scraper...my favorite tool so far. I love it when you break that one out. Fantastic work Phil.
😊
Turned out great Mr Phil hope you heal fully quickly.
😊
😀Thank You Phil, 😀Thank You Dan from Las Vegas 😀... Glad U R BACK!!! and I hope that shoulder is able to recover. The relaxed adventure watching you turn and explain as you go Phil I find extremally refreshing. Olive wood is, as you said, beautiful at times and not so beautiful. It all depends. I think you brought the most out of what this piece had to offer. YES PHIL MY VERY BEST TO YOU & SHADY ACRES WOOD SHOP......Until next time....TM

Very nice bowl! Thanks. Glad you're back; you were missed.
😊
Olive always is beautiful when finished, even when it doesnt have a lot of grain. I like the smell while turning.
😊
I love how it is a log of wood for the fire one moment, and suddenly it has sides and a base, and even I with no woodworking experience can see yippee…..a bowl……
Yay! Thank you, Margaret! 😊
Sweet little bowl. Olive wood is wonderful.
😊
Lovely result. You’re surely the Leonardo of the lathe.👍

😊
Phil, I am so glad to see you back at it! I was away from my lathe for 8 weeks and almost went crazy over the holiday! Thank you for such a great video!
Welcome back, Anthony! Now, get to turning! 😊
Every turning is like a present. You just have to do the unwrap to find the gift inside. With that said, I think your little olive bowl should be a dedicated olives only serving bowl. Just the right size to hold an olive for every finger!😂 And on this one, the heart wood is the art wood, giving it some very nice color rings to match the shape of the turning. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Your comment reads like poetry this morning, Valerie! Makes me smile, too! 😊
I think it's a very pretty little dish.
😊
Glad you are feeling a bit better Phil, nice little bowl and the heartwood really sets it off. All the best for 2023 and as always will be looking forward to your videos. All the best to you. Regards Jim
Thank you, Jim, Happy 2023! 😊

Thanks, Billy, same for you and yours! 😊
That is an exquisite little bowl! It looks so smooth. I love your New Years Eve plan. I hope it was as memorable as your videos are. I love them!
Thank you, Susanne, I appreciate you taking your time to comment! 😊
Dear Mr Anderson, Thank you for your latest demonstration which was, as usual, both informative and enjoyable to watch. I was very pleased to see you at work again as I had been quite concerned over your unusually long absence, at least it was due to a self-inflicted action rather than anything more sinister. Best wishes for the New Year, I look forward to our future 'meetings'.
Thank you, Owen! Here's to a better new year! 😊
Good 2023 to you, too!
😊
Nice job there Ya O'l Wood Pecker...um Turner. You Sir have taught me the way to create a very nice Mortise (recess) by cutting from center out and after a regrind of an old skew to the proper dovetail angle...flawless mounting to the chuck jaws every time!
Perfect! Thanks, Dave! 😊
Great to see you back in action. Great little bowl.
😊
This is cute, happy 2023
😊
So glad that your injury was not too bad and that you are back turning again, Phil. I love the bowl. I turned a very similar shaped little bowl on the morning of our Dear Queen's Platinum Jubilee last year, and found a bark inclusion in one end in the shape of a crown. I was so chuffed I showed it everyone at the street party (in the rain, well this is the UK!) and many thought I had somehow added it deliberately; isn't nature just wonderful?! Wishing you a wonderful 2023, Phil, and Yes, I sure look forward to spending late Thursday evenings with you as often as you can be there.
I love the story, David, thank you! 😊
Really nice. Glad you are able to keep on turning. ❤
Yes, thank you 😊
Happy Days for 2023 Phil and thank you for the past year and all the fun. A lovely piece mate, I enjoyed the show yet again.
😊
That dish is lovely. It was such a relief to hear that you too, see the prettiness of it. When I saw it, I thought that it would be a perfect holder for rings or earrings. A piece that pretty deserves to have pretty things in it. :-)
I love it, Deirdre, perfect use for it! 😊
Amazing job Phil, as always! I love Olive wood.
😊
At our age things popping out. Just be careful. Beautiful.
Thank you, I will 😊
UR rite Phil olive wood is so good at a finish. I turned a bowl out of olive wood and the smell of olives came of the wood and all on my tools. I was so so happy.
Wonderful! 😊
So glad you're back....again! Thursday is an important day, ya know-- a week of anticipation, then JOY! There's a Phil video today! Clear the schedule, 'cuz imma gonna be awatchin'! 😁 That's definitely something cute, Phil! I keep looking at the 2 chunks you sent me a few years ago. One of these days......
