Jerry Seinfeld on "Unfrosted," the made-up origin tale of Pop-Tarts
Comedian Jerry Seinfeld has stepped into the director's shoes for his new film "Unfrosted," the not-quite-true story of the creation of the Kellogg's Pop-Tart. Correspondent Mo Rocca talks with Seinfeld about working behind the camera for the first time, and calling on a bunch of his comedian friends (including "Sunday Morning" contributor Jim Gaffigan) to act in his origin tale of a breakfast staple.

Next Jim Gaffigan will do a ‘Hot Pockets’ documentary movie.
The sequel will be Toaster Strudel’s..
Best comment i've heard All Day!!!! PLEASE JIM! Lol.
and i sang it in my head like him
I know you're joking but I'm enough of a fan of Gaffigan that I would actually watch that.
The guy who played Ben Franklin in the Office playing the Quaker guy at the funeral 😂 Looks like the same wig!
That’s character actor Andy Daly!
The guy giving the interview looks like he’s wearing an old-timely wig
This is priceless. The trailer is hysterical. There are so many cameos. I can't wait to see this.
🥃👴🏻 WHY???!?
Soooooo bad.
Another huge fan of Brown Suger Cinnamon Pop tarts NO FROSTING!
🥃👴🏻 SOOO HOWS YO MOTHER DOIN?
I'm 56 and I still eat pop-tarts. Can't help it😊
I'm 59, and love the plain strawberry Pop Tarts. When i was a kid, Kellog's also had cherry Pop Tarts. I wish this flavor would make a return.

They're very refreshing.
Chris Farley would have been fantastic in this movie
I miss him

@@JessicaPaus😫 WHY???!?
He’s funny
@@stephanierobertson8846🥃👴🏻HE NOT FUNNY .
One thing I've learned from studying animation is that 95% of all the best animation ever was in cereal commercials. We were all spoiled with Disney/theatrical quality animation for Lucky Charms and Froot Loops growing up and that tradition has been lost. They're kind of evil because a lot of them use sophisticated psychological manipulation, but it's still impressive. They're almost like demons or something
Disney did commercial animations
I don’t care what the film snobs say. I’m very excited to see this. Jerry rules.
And how was it?
Jerry sucks.
Seinfeld should be on every episode of cbs Sunday morning show.
That makes zero sense. He was promoting his movie. Why tf would he want to be on a weekend morning show? 😂
@@rlud304 vanilla
Yes he should 😂😂
Never understood Seinfeld
🥃👴🏻 WHY???!?
I’m still gonna wait for the “Hearts of Darkness” documentary on the making of this epic film. Update: Of course, it took me a week to realize it would be called “Tarts of Darkness”…
Who made that Doc? Sounds cool.
My friend Tim was a pop tart freak -I kept one of his boxes after he passed away.
Can't wait to see the movie. We all need some more laughter. Thanks, Jerry.
How was it?
@@cataldi4986 It was goofy and silly, lol. I enjoyed it.
@@peace-a Enjoyed it ? OMG .
My Mom was very strict about not allowing sugary breakfast cereals. No Frosted Flakes or Captain Crunch. But somehow, some way, Pop Tarts were acceptable. Made no sense, but I was not about to question the policy.
Ditto except for the last part. Pop tarts were also unacceptable. I don’t think I actually ate one until I was an adult.
I'm 54 and on any given morning in, say, 1977 I would consume either the dearly beloved CHERRY or strawberry UNFROSTED poptart. Cherry needs to come back ASAP, and; have you ever tried butter on a Pop-Tart? It's sooo friggin' good!
Blueberry no frosting
Best ones. 100%
Jerry has that humor that I haven’t always enjoyed but I respect the work he put in molding it.
I still love them. Strawberry unfrosted. I can't wait to see the movie.
Strawberry flavored are the best ones 🍓🍓
Brown sugar cinnamon is the correct answer!
THIS is genius i cannot wait
I never thought there was enough filling in pop tarts, but then that would have made them Hostess fruit pies, which I can buy just as easily. Looking forward to seeing this movie.
Remember: They had to protect the toaster ! 😂
Jerry put the fun back in funeral. I want one exactly like that when I die.
I love them! Still eat unfrosted Strawberry pop tarts.
Me too. Do you remember the astronaut sticks that Apollo 11 used to say they ate on the rockets? Or Tang drinks? I loved both of these snacks.
@@tanastoiberg7981 I drank gallons of Tang as a child!! But I don’t remember astronaut sticks.
Like the Pop-Tart, Seinfeld never grows stale. No "hot takes" just fresh observations.
This is awesome 😂 Love it!!
FINALLY an Academy Award candidate about the world's beloved Breakfast Snack/Addiction/Parental neglect emblematic icon!!))) Thank you Mr. Seinfeld!
I agree with the parental neglect part
Better than barbie
parental neglct would be more actual commercial candy

They had an unfrosted blueberry? I never saw this in the supermarket. Is this flavor still available unfrosted?

I only hope this sparks interest in people doing research into the past and present business practices of the Kellogg's.
I absolutely loved this movie. I want to smoke and watch it again. I'll probably pick up on more hidden gags. 😂
Would’ve been great if this piece included when the movie comes out and where to watch it!
Netflix

May 3, via Netflix.
@@tishw4576 sure, but it's a good point. It would've been good for them to share that info.
May 3rd- a Netflix original
@4:48 Eerily looks like Siskel & Ebert from the early 90's
i love that cinnamon pop tart, too and the chocolate frosted frosted..! MORE OF JERRY SEINFELD DOING MOVIES!!!!! That chicken at the funeral! Hilarious!
Frosted Cherry is the best, with strawberry #2.
Yes!!
So hard to describe what, exactly, is so brilliant about Seinfeld. Yet there he is, clearly brilliant at everything he does. 😮
Pop-Tarts don't go stale because they're not food, any sucker knows that. 🍭
And they were NEVER fresh !! 😂
On 30 Rock the small print on a snack food package goes [If I remember it correctly] "Manufactured in the same plant that produces food."
Brown sugar? Yuck. Strawberry unfrosted or frosted with a little butter added on top right when it comes out of the toaster. Loved them throughout my childhood. An experience my 3 children never had - they were all raised on organic everything. As adults, there is so much junk food in their homes!
I remember watching Jerry in the 80s when i was a very small boy and breakfast... cereal being a huge part of his act and watching him slide down a spoon into a huge bowl of cereal and i thought that was awesome as a young boy.
Jerry is a comedic jenius.
"We're making a movie about a Pop-Tart" XD XD I just love this concept, because it's perfectly "Seinfeldian" 🙂and it's about TIME that Jerry came out of this pseudo-"retirement"!
"No company would want a movie of their product like this." But, guaranteed, this show WILL sell more Pop-Tarts! As for me, I like the classics: strawberry or blueberry, no frosting... although 'd never turn down a brown sugar, frosted, as a kid.
Fantastic pop tart “commercial “, I haven’t had one in 50 years but heading to the store now just so I get the satire better. 😂
This pop tart thing is mind blowing like the ad with nano technique removing calcium and lime scale deposit under waterline in toilets in dramatic music plus secret plumbing skill.
I was expecting the descending casket to be immediately followed with a spring loaded re-appearance with a ding...like a toaster.
Gonna have to see this!
Europeans: Americans love to eat! Americans: dang right we do!
Kelloggs CEO: Johnson! In my office... Marketing Guy: Yes boss? CEO: If Mattel can get a movie done, we can too!? Any ideas? Marketing Guy: Just one...
toaster at end of his bit when he was toasting poptart. Id never heard of, so i looked it up just for kix,(dualit) Thats one expensive toaster!😊i love you jerry!
This is the thing now -- movies about consumer products like shoes, dolls, breakfast pastries.
Yup. 😅 were reaching new levels of ultra consumerism.
Pop-Tarts were such a treat. They are eaten best with a pool of butter on the top!
Damn! I finished two unfrosted strawberry pop tarts just before clicking on this. Age 62 and still love ‘em
Brown sugar cinnamon are the best.
And have the most lead, too !! 😮
I always Loved Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon and Smores!!
This is gonna be a really funny movie !!! Looking forward to it 😂😂😂
I grew up on POP TARTS. I’m 50 now and I still love eating me some POP TARTS. Cinnamon brown sugar
Grew up eating Strawberry Unfrosted! A couple years ago when prices really started to jump on granola bars and other "snack" bars, I looked at the calorie counts and determined I was just as well off eating a pop-tart compared to a Natures Valley bar. Pop-tarts are far less expensive and have about the same nutritional value?! On top of that, eat them hot or cold! I eat one at a time for a snack and have probably saved hundreds of dollars in the last 2-3 years.
So much more interesting to watch a movie based on actual facts of the story than throwing all the comedians you can think of to go through goofy dialogue.
Fun at parties?
When I was a child, the first Pop-Tarts were deemed parental malpractice, specifally motherly malpractice. Then they made it even worse by adding frosting.
I’ve graduated to Toaster Strudel.
Can’t wait to see your movie about pop tarts!
I see sales going up for the Pop Tart. I know I'm craving one now.
Ok, 😅 I'm getting a kick out of reading everybody's comments. Oh my God! Do you know how bad these things are for you and yet I do see people later in years still eating Pop-Tarts. 😋
Can’t wait!
Millions of us waiting for the next funny thing from Jerry Seinfeld, and this is what he delivers? I sincerely hope it succeeds for him, but - even though, when I think about it, it isn't really very surprising - it is very surprising!
Jerry you rock u r fabbbb what ever you touch ,Jerry turns to Gold 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😊
The only ones I liked were the Oreo one and the Wild Berry one that had the pink and teal 80's frosting on it
I think truthfully stated the line should be "Jerry called on his comedian pals and Amy Shumer".
Although I've never liked pop tarts, I am certain the movie will be much much better.
It wasn’t
Gonna watch it
Bill Burr as Kennedy is perfection!!!!!
As a kid, I wasn't as responsible with the toaster settings. Blue flames shooting out of the toaster from my burning Strawberry Frosted Pop-Tarts.
Rip jerry, it was a nice run
I want to see the movie, I grew up down the road from Battle Creek and would go to Kellogg for field trips. But never liked pop tarts lol! My mom called them an abomination!
And they were !! 😂
Jerry is really good at doing color commentary for the Mets.
Strawberry - extra frosting!
Hugh Grant, Jim Gaffigan!
Sit back and enjoy!
Jerry grew his hair back in. Big improvement there. 👍
Hair transplantation
I was kind of excited for a second until I saw who some of the other actors were
I hope the movie is as good as it looks.
The boomers are going to love this.
The interviewer is in this TOO MUCH .. !!! 👉 ... " ⛔ REMOVE HIM ⛔ " ... 👈
Frosted strawberry... it can be eaten warm or right out of the packet. Unfrosted, however, can only be eaten warm. Any other way is uncivilized. Lol
Great. Now I need to go buy some pop tarts.
*(**6:08**) You know, Sarah Cooper kinda favors Helena Bonham Carter.* 😁
I've never eaten a pop tart, but I think this is an enjoyable film to watch.
Full Kellogg Honor!!!! Lmao
Love poptarts
Seinfield makde a joke about 'This is what it is' so funny I love it..~~
FACT: Post worked for the Kellog brothers, stole their cereal idea and made millions. Kellog then jumped in the cereal business and have competed together for over 100 years!
And now I think the same company (Nestles) owns both of them. Along with about 75% of all the products sold in the grocery store.
Thank you for that bit of trivia. I love learning about old American food companies. 👍
Looks awesome
Nabisco used to make a competing product. Called Toastetts they were vastly superior to PopTarts. I still miss those nearly-food treats.
They should have used a sunbeam automatic toaster 😂
Do kellogs still make and sell the unfrosted ones? Would like to try them.
Yes. They have unfrosted strawberry Pop Tarts at Ralph's and Von's.
I’m with you, Moe frosted is a must
Oh my God. Is this a parody of movies like The Founder? I thought parodies were dead, but they've come back.
Thanks
An interesting interview for me. I have more love for JSeinfeld than almost any other pop culture figure, and at the same time I consider Mo Rocca to be what an AI would create if I told it to create the image of my purest hatred.
❤🎉 My nickname is Pop-Tart and I'm 53 years old now some things don't change all because of my love of the cherry Pop tart that I do not share
Brown Sugar Cinnamon IS the best flavor.
