We gave our two pet raccoons Jell-O to see how they would react to this jiggly sweet treat! Cheeto and Piper each have their own interesting reaction. Watch to the end to see how they liked it!

    • My mother told of a story when she was young they had a pet raccoon. My grandmother sat outside a jello mold with fruit to keep chilled overnight. This was in the 30 - 40 s. Next morning the raccoon had gotten into the mold and ate out all the fruit cocktail 😂

  • That’s too cute!!!! My grandmother told me abt when jello had just become a thing back in the 40s or 50s, that she had a dinner party and this lady freaked out seeing the Jello and told her children not to touch it because it was either alive or witchery! I think of that every time I see Jello.

    • Jello had been a thing since 1897. That lady just never saw it, probably because refrigeration wasn't as common until around that time. Besides that, there was another brand "Bromangelon" making their own Gelatin desserts in 1895. That earlier type was headed by the man who later invented Tootsie Rolls.

      @101Volts@101Volts Жыл бұрын
    • @@101Volts And they were experimenting with setting food, drink, and desserts with gelatin long long before that, 1820s for sure. And there is evidence that gelatin (being a gel-like substance removed from animal bones by boiling) was used thousands of years ago. The brand JELL-O was sold in 1899 for 450 dollars and again in 1900 for 35 dollars. It would become successful as early as 1902, doing about 200k a year in sales, and then from there became huge.

      @victrola2007@victrola2007 Жыл бұрын
    • Yeah, I'm not sure Piper liked it. She's like tearing it open to see if anything worth it is inside, and keeps eating tiny bits of it ala 'wait, surely it's supposed to be good, right? Wait, lemme try it again to be sure', but ultimately mostly destroyed it, ate very little and left the rest there. Reminds me of my parents' dog when we offered her a piece of cucumber. She took it in her mouth like 12 times, chewing maybe once, twice, let it back on the floor, and looked at us, confused, as if to ask: "You guys are really eating this cr*p?" It was hilarious.

  • Clever idea!!! Too fun!!! FYI: I’m guessing you don’t know about the time honored hot water trick for releasing jello from the mold. Just run really hot tap water into the sink or a dish pan, to about the depth of the jello. Place the bowl in the hot water bath, and watch for ANY evidence of liquid between the bowl and the jello. Watch it carefully; it only needs the tiniest bit of melt to release the bond. Then invert your plate on top of the bowl, turn the bowl over with the plate held tight, and shake a couple of times. If you kept the bowl in the hot water the right amount of time it shouldn’t take more than a few shakes. If the jello doesn’t want to move, try a little more time in the hot water bath. It takes a little practice to figure out what it looks like when the bond has broken. NOTE: If you leave it too long in the hot water bath, you’ll have a mess of melted jello juice so do the shaking over the sink for the first few batches until you get the hang of it. It’s a trivial skill, I know, but one of the most satisfying I’ve ever picked up. Enjoy!

    • @@sylvz7135 You’re welcome. I haven’t made jello in a long while, but I grew up watching my mother perform this un-molding on a regular basis. I actually quite like jello. It’s so versatile, and it’s fun to eat. I made it regularly in my 20’s, and found the hard way a certain knack is required to recognize when it’s time to pull the dish out of the hot water. I eventuality caught on, though if I wasn’t paying attention I would still sometimes get it wrong. In recent years I’ve occasionally bought the individual cups of pre-made jello for snacking. But they’re just not as good as making it myself. I actually bought a couple of boxes a few months back; haven’t made them up yet but this video has me inspired. Maybe this weekend!

  • Hi, I have never seen anyone make jello like that, usually, you put the jello in the bowl and then add your boiling hot water (measured in a measuring cup for liquids, the measurements from dry to liquid are slightly different), using a wisk to blend them and then add your cold water and stir it in, then put in the fridge, no need to dirty a pan.

    • It's probably vegetable-based. Agar Agar has to be boiled in order to jellify, so it's almost certainly the case for this Jello.

  • Just a little warning to all about sugar free treats--make sure that the sweetener used in the product is safe for whatever animal you're feeding it to as some are deadly toxic to certain animals. From a wildlife rehabber--
