The Avro Lancaster is a British Second World War heavy bomber. It was designed and manufactured by Avro as a contemporary of the Handley Page Halifax, both bombers having been developed to the same specification, as well as the Short Stirling, all three aircraft being four-engined heavy bombers adopted by the Royal Air Force (RAF) during the same wartime era.
In 1943 the Lancaster was part of a raid over the ruhr area with the aim of suppressing the region's industrial output. A lot of civilian were terrorized both by the nazis and the bombing. So were part of my family who died during the bombing of Duisburg. The Lancaster project is some kind of process of coming to terms with the past. It was important to defeat the nazi terror regime but as in all wars the civilian losses were pure tragedy.
My good friend Erick Miotke put these thoughts into his fantastic composition which supports the animation in an impressive way.
Music: "warmachine contradiction" from Erick Miotke
Here's what he says to his composition: "the track for tom's lancaster model and film is to be understood as a nod to the heroic pilots of these warmachines, just as to the civilians who experienced the hell unleashed on them in the german city targets. it is a contradiction expressed in the two different parts in the track. heaven and hell. with a painful but peaceful ending."
The fantastic kit from Border Model (Molds were developed by Wingnut Wings) in 1/32 is distributed by Modelbau Koenig. www.modellbau-koenig.de
A special thanks goes to Thomas Hartwig and Christian Schiller for their support during the assembling process.

This has to be the model making video of the year, no make that of the decade. Superb work and brilliant production, Tom.
I'm pleased to hear 😊
Totally agree 👍 Best of the best 👌
He does a great job, not only with the models, but the videos. Very cool
More of a video presentation than a model making video
My thoughts exactly , absolutely amazing , Stephen Spielberg eat your heart out 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😳😳😳👍🏻
Man...if there were oscars for modelling videos, this would win best film and best director....a truly unique take of a build. If Border Models don't use this and you as promotion then they ain't worth the effort you put in....
Thanks for your kind words 😊
All I can say is that this model and video deserve to be in a museum where it can be appreciated throughout the ages.Just outstanding work Tom!!!
Thanks a lot 😊
It's insane! I'm making stop motion builds with military sets made from bricks and I costs a lot of work. You put stop motion builds in completely unreachable level for me. You are my God now!
Thanks for your kind words 😊
An incredible build, I just cannot imagine how many hours you condensed into 12 minutes. Very impressive, and thank you.
Why Tom is not in the movie industry is beyond me...been waiting for this video...Tom never disappoints!
Thank you very much 😊
The amount of effort this video must have taken is mind blowing. To end up with such an incredible model as well is phenominal. Well done.
Thank you very much 😊
I watched with my jaw dropped the whole length of the video! That was insanely good, thank you Tom for sharing your artwork with us!
Stunning stop action production. Well done. I’m building a Lancaster in memory of my dad who flew 32 missions as an m/u gunner with 101 Sqn over the March-September 1944 period. I’m showing my grandkids what their great grandfather did in WW2.
I never like or subscribe to any first video I see from anyone, ever. Until now. WOW!
I'm happy to hear 😊 thanks
Simply stunning, the combination of a beautiful build, amazing video and superb music. I think I have watched it three times already. Looking forward to the diorama
I'm happy to hear you like my work 😊
Mesmerizing, as always. And the craftmanship! I'm in awe.
Absolutely amazing, everything about it - building, painting, photography, video work.....Brilliant!
I'm pleased to hear 😊
The price of this model is almost as high as the skill you show in building and filming it. I can dream of buying the model but I can only stand and admire your work knowing I could never match it. Thanks for posting.
This is by very far the best modeling video I have ever seen. A masterpiece. Respect!!!
Thank you very much 😊
Late at night and I thought ,skip through it and just see the end result. Once started couldn’t stop watching 👍
I'm pleased to hear 😊
Everything about this film is top drawer. thank you
Thank you very much - you're welcome 😊
1/32, only for the big boys 🤠 ....... Beautiful presentation and work.
Your patience, attention to detail & skill never cease to amaze me. Wonderful as always. Whenever I see you have a new video, I stop what I'm doing, make a cup of tea & just chill out; watching the magic happen.
There are some incredible model making creators around but this... this is next level.
Thank you very much 😊
Absolutely incredible finished product. The making of it deserves an Academy award for visual effects.
this must be THE best produced modelling video ever. kit is awesome and the recording is very sophisticated too.
Thank you very
I didn’t want this to end! Very well done, Tom. 👍🏻
What a beautifully finished model. Animation editing and production is of usual amazing standard. Thank you for all the work.
Thanks, you're welcome
You are not only an excellent model maker and painter, you’re a fabulous movie maker ! I’m amaze how you manage to have the pieces exactly the same place before and after paint…
This was magnificent. Model making of the highest order-from a fifty year modeler. Brilliant!
Thank you very much 😊
Fantastic and beautiful build. Really like your video production and style. Well storyboarded, crafted and edited. No small feet I'm sure....
Thank you very much 😊
As ever, Tom, you somehow find a way to take things to another level. Simply outstanding.
Thank you very much
This build and the video was extraordinary. Just extraordinary. I know it took untold number of hours to produce. Bravo!
Wow...the sheer amount of editing for this vid...and that's not to mention the actual model skills involved in making the kit...Amazing video!
Thank you very much 😊
Another masterpiece! Video and model.
Thanks a lot
Again I can only say such masterpieces that stand alone cannot be unhinged by their maker and how vast their life in awwh by the trained eye in wonder.
Really great. The building alone must take a long time. Then to build it as a stop motion shows real commitment. Thanks!
Loved the wee detail at 1.53 the navigators seat tucking under the bench!
It was with a little wink
its one thing to build this kit it’s another level when its stop motion , tom brady of modeling
Thank you very much - I'm honored to be compared to the goat 🏈🙏.
An absolute triumph of modeling and videography. My jaw is still on the table. I feel like I'm in a dream. How is what I just witnessed even possible. Bravo!
I'm happy to hear you like my work 😊
dude took this too a new level....this isn't just modeling....this is Art
I am speechless... I am without words! Bravo!!!
This should be seen by way more people, really impressive
Thank you
I've been waiting for this Lancaster video for awhile now. It's outstanding, Tom. Please extend my congratulations and gratitude to the music composer as well. The whole package makes the years fall away to 1942 and turns what you've done into an experience not easily forgotten. Cheers.
I'm happy to hear and I'll send the greetings to my friend who composed the music for me.
Excellent workmanship. Nice engine detail and quite accurate for the Packard Merlin 28. 👍
That is an absolutely insane build. I'm not sure I'll ever have that much motivation for a single project. Well done 👍
Wholly smoke, your another level, makes me want to be small enough to enter plane to see all the details. Great work 👍
Thanks for your kind words 😊
Hard to find words to praise this work of art. So grateful that you share your art with us !!!
Thanks - you're welcome 😊
Beautiful. That is an absolute triumph!
Thank you very much 😊
Omg, from all your videos, this one is most likely your biggest achievement!!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 you never stop to impress!
Thanks for your kind words 😊
I can't imagine how long it took the animation on top of the modelling. You have made a fascinating and beautiful video!
I wanted to add a comment but all the words have already been used. I am in awe, just amazing!
Thanks a lot 😊
how this doesn't have more views is beyond me
Miniature building and stop motion photography...two of Tom's skills, refined and polished to such a high degree. It brings out all details and realism of his creations. A tribute to those brave airmen who flew, fight and die for Britain, so many years ago.
Thanks for your kind words 😊
Beautiful work and the animated build was superb entertainment.
I'm pleased to hear 😊
Absolutely great work. Not only are you an exceptional visual artist but your modeling skills are complimentary. Way too many times one does not compare to the other.
I'm pleased to hear 😊
¡Modelling at a level beyond the stars! I'm at one million of light years of your skills, but I am learning little by little, in every video of yours. ¡Thank you very much Tom!
Thanks for your kind words 😊
Wow. That is PURE ART! Absolutely amazing! Thank you. 😍🤩
Thanks a lot 😊
From the quality of the actual build, to the production of the video, this had me watching in awe. The price of the kit is such, that sadly, it is unlikely to end up on my bench...........oh dear, I seem to have said that before though! Wonderful stuff. Thanks for all the work that's gone into this for us mere mortals to enjoy.
Thanks for your kind words 😊 - and yes it's an expensive kit with pro and cons.
A-MA-ZING!! And you even managed to sneak a few tips in... Thank you!
Wow! The stop-motion is truly magical. Looks like an amazing kit that you did great justice to and this model looks fabulous.
Thank you
Tom, astonishing - from model to video production. Makes my afternoon.
Thank you very much 😊
Fantastic job! It's the best Lancaster build on KZhead! Just jaw dropping..
Absolutely Brilliant.
Thank you
Love these modelling tips throughout the video
I'm pleased to hear 😊
This is the most incredible video you have ever made and I have ever seen. The detail in this scale is rarely captured but you made it real. One detail I'll bet your viewers missed is the Lancaster is the only bomber in WW2 to have a " loo", British for bath room. You actually caught it as the scale is big enough to put it in. I put this video up on my big screen TV, and it was incredible. Now if only I could build like this. That kit is almost a 6 month build easy. While many model builder videos talk over their building, this style is great " Just show me the model" :-) Congratulations and Thanks.
I’m not sure which is more impressive, your build and finish or the of quality of your video production. Your filming and editing are just so damned clean! I can’t even fathom how long it must take to perform these stop-motion builds but the end results are just as worthy of museum display as the subjects. Thank you for continuing to offer some of the best viewing anywhere.
Thanks for your kind words 😊
Without a doubt, the best modelling video I have ever seen . Simply superb. 👍
I'm happy to hear
Never been so excited to watch a KZhead video....not disappointed.
I'm happy to hear
I couldn't do all the internal work and then seal it up. Glad you have video evidence!
I thought about cutting the fuselage in halves but decided to leave the structure untouched. As you mentioned the video still shows the interior 😅
I never cease to be amazed by your work, Tom. From your flawless model building to your stop animation film making skills that would Ray Harryhuasen envious. It all just incredible. 👍💯
Thanks - too much honor 😊
It's a shame that the interior of the plane can't be exposed to show that great detail. What a beautiful build!!!!
Absolutely stunning, I don't think there's enough words that can express the sheer magnificence of the work and the video, incredible, well done
Thanks a lot 😊
Great animation, subject, build, and tips as usual. 👍 🎥🏆
Thanks a lot
Masterpiece! Both the model and your video!
Well done
When watching your videos, Im always fascinated by the fact that you are so determined to make a great video using so many images. I can imagine it slows the build down heavily, and you gotta think out what looks good for the sake of it looking logical! You have a great combination of many talents, which come together in these videos! great man!!
Thanks for your kind words 😊
What a fabulous and beautiful model. I just looked at the price... expensive, but hardly surprising. I wouldn't tackle such a project, with my current skills. It needs an expert!! Fascinating video!!
Art of the highest level. Absolutely incredible work Tom. Your videos are so unique, the work involved must be absolutely immense.
Thank you
Fantastic model a tribute to all those who were involved during WW2 including my Father who was a hero !!
The amount of skill and craftsmanship that goes into these videos never ceases to amaze me - not only do the models look superb but the animation takes a tremendous amount of time and looks fantastic. Very, VERY impressive, your videos always put a huge smile on my face. Why doesn't this channel have at least 10 million subscribers? 🙂
Thanks for your kind words 😊 never could be enough subscriptions 😅🙏
What a stunning build and video. You’re an inspiration. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into producing this. I’ll be watching more than once.
I'm happy to hear
Woow Tom, you never cease to amaze me. Incredible job again! Must have been an insane amount of work. Respect!
Thanks - and yes it was. Took me appr. 9 month...
@@TomGrigat Did you ever consider joining a contest with your videos? Prizes guanranteed :)
Interesting idea - but what kind of contest would it be? I don't know any modelling video contest. Do you have any links to some? That would be great.
Your passion reveals itself in the details and time you put into parts you don’t see when the model is complete. Excellent work.
Thank you very much 😊
it's always another beautiful build. Really set the bar high for us fellow modelers! You need a time clock at your hobby room door so you can guesstimate the hours you have in modeling and stop motion photography! How much time do you have in this project not including the time you lay in bed thinking about it? like the one gentleman said definitely build of the year!!
Thank you very much 😊 I've been working and thinking with and about for almost a year. I cannot tell how many hours went into this...
Absolutely amazing!! The model work, while animating after painting and then editing, I'll say it again, Amazing!!
Thank you very much 😊
Splendid work!!! I am deeply impressed. Thank you very much.
As always, a perfect combination of superb modelling skill and amazing video editing! Congratulations!
Thank you very much
WOW! That is the first time I've seen a detailed model without "over shaded" panel lines ! Bravo
Absolutely mind blowing model building and video editing. Oscar nominations should be on the way to you now. Thanks again for another awesome video build 👍🏽👍🏽🍻🍻
Thanks a lot 😊
Astounding animation! Paint appears out of nowhere! Well done!!!
This is just amazing. I’m building the Lanc too. It’s amazing how creative some people can be in editing artistic videos and fast-building at the same time.
Absolutely spectacular! Your talents are amazing, thank you for sharing!
Thank you - you're welcome 😊
Your video is a work of art from start to finish.
Stunning commitment to detail. Well done!
I'm happy you like it 😊
Holy Moly. 12 minutes to watch, 12 months in the making? Very impressive!😳
Thanks a lot
What a shame that all that incredible interior detail an shading will never be seen
saddens me to great extent that the interior is hidden. that engineer/navigator section was gorgeous
It's the problem of almost every detailed model - that's why videos are important 😅
Simply stunning ! Fantastic work Tom. Thanks for share.
Words fail me , a magnificent build of one of the best 32nd models out there , utterly brilliant
Thank you
Tis almost a sacrilege to cover up all that internal detail
Not only is the video amazing, the craftsmanship, THE MUSIC, everything is perfect!!!
I am utterly stunned!! It's mesmerising watching this incredible build. Thank you Tom. Steve
I'm glad you like it 😊
Simply stunning build. The stop motion makes it all that much better. keep building, I'll be watching as always !
