  • Love my FL5. I picked one up December of 2022 and put 26,500 miles on it within the year. Someone ran a light, totaled it, and I replaced it with another FL5.

  • HUGE miss by Honda, not making enough of these for everyone who wants one. It's the perfect car for enthusiasts starting families, who need practicality in their track toy. But dealers have made sure that it's priced for people with Porsche money, and so out of reach for the type of person it was built for. I have nothing but F U's to give to Honda for allowing it to come to this.

It’s still awesome and makes me feel a certain way when driving it. Is Type R made in Japan too? For that price, I would hope so.

The way it handles is insane as well, the second the differential kicks in powering through a corner it's like the car locks on to train tracks.

  • Great video! If I’m not mistaken many of the 10th and 11th gen Honda Civics infotainment uses a stripped down version of Google’s Android system as the base software and then overlay it with Honda specific vehicle software. The hardware used on the infotainment comes with insufficient RAM in comparison to what the system actually needs to function at full capacity. That probably attributes to the problem as well. Glad you were able to find a solution!

      @1anre@1anre2 ай бұрын
    • @@1anre it’s all about money. doesn’t matter who approved it as long as the profit margins make sense. Most consumers overlook this particular fault because you can plug in your phone and do wired apple carplay and android auto, so to some it’s not a dealbreaker. Honda has never prioritized tech, up until this new generation. There seems to be a shift, if you take a look at the new Accord hybrid, the new infotainment system is worlds ahead of their previous iterations because they are using Google’s android automotive, that include over the air updates. I imagine that’s the direction Honda will be headed with their in car tech.

      @goinwitdaflow@goinwitdaflow2 ай бұрын
    • @@1anrei wouldnt call an android infotainment system ‘technologically deficient’ by any means. As outlined in the video, its clear theres some performance issues in this implementation, but android is an incredible platform for integrated systems. kiosks, cash registers, infotainment, student laptops, tvs, and even some high end home appliances use it. android is entirely open source as well, so a capable software team can really make it work for the car, rather than just with it. additionally, its convenient because system updates can be performed remotely, rather than needing to take the car to a dealership to receive updated firmware. im sure that with slighly more system memory, the infotainment in this car would be very smooth and easy system to use.

  • Thats an awesome car, sometimes I wish cars were accessible here in Brazil, the Type R barely came here by independent imports and the old ones are also hard to find and the price asked is above a common house price.. I'm barely able to keep my old 2000 civic that I bought with 200k km but its going strong. Honda makes great cars.

  • Glad to hear that the markups for these cars have lessened in some places. Unfortunately, they are still very much an issue where I'm from, with the Type R going for over $60k and the Integra Type S nearing $80K. If they ever come back down to earth I would love to get my hands on one.

  • Thanks for that infotainment tip, that should hopefully solve the same gripe I have with my FL5. I’m considering doing a middle resonator delete instead of the smaller one for a bit more noise, combined with the valve mod I got from your earlier video.

  • Super jealous of FL5 owners, but I have it's baby brother, the '22 Si, and in my favorite color, Orange! I've been thinking of grabbing a Hondata tune just to wake it up a little more. BUT the gas mileage in my Si is fantastic. I regularly get 40mpg on the highway in the summer. The highest I got was 45mpg on a Cleveland to Columbus drive, and that was doing 80 most of the way with a couple bursts of 90 here and there. Absolutely love this gen civic, they look fantastic.

  • Acuity sells upgraded shifter cable bushings and shifter base bushings. Those two will make the shifter feel a bit more sharp and the shifter won't flex as much when hard shifting. You can also try upgraded detent springs in the transmission for a heavier feel going in and out of gears. I have all 3 with the stock shifter in my 9th gen Accord and it feels great.

  • Love the honest review! Congratulations on the new baby coming a long. Im in the same boat actually which leads me towards why i went with the Elantra N or i30 sedan N as we call it here in Australia. No doubt honda have brought back some of their 90s magic but after test driving both and having owned a fk8 I actually bought a I30N sedan over this for 20k AUD less and couldnt be happier. Its so much more comfortable and just as capable on track. If you're a Honda fan i get it but for everyone else objectively the N is a better deal, especially here in Australia where we get more if a luxury N trim than the states. The moment you start turning off stock features (like something as significant as suspension) from a car thats already overpriced to begin with to make it more livable, that's when you should've probably looked elsewhere.

  • Trying out a different shift knob could improve the shift feel a bit. I have a 1.5T integra and I changed to a lighter full aluminum oem RSX shift knob. I mainly did it cause I hate knobs that are only half leather so I wanted something full aluminum. The lighter weight made shift effort a little higher and it feels more accurate especially crossing through gates like 2-3 or 3-2 shifts.

  • Besides the additional cost, reduced storage capacity and rear-seat headroom, less amazing front seats, and no shiftlights, the other downside of the Type S vs the Type R is that Acura tuned it for a recommended 93 octane, which isn't available in California, or in many other states. The Type R was tuned for readily available 91. This is the primary reason behind the Type S's slight power advantage vs the Type R. Running the Type S on the Type R's 91 octane reduces the Acura's fuel mileage and power, never mind running it on 87 Regular, which the Type R can accept, albeit at a similar reduction in fuel mileage and power. This 93 octane requirement for the Type S really puts a damper on the idea of buying that car over the Type R for many of us in the western states.

I'm really enjoying the vtec I've been thinking about doing a cold air intake and a turbo but I'm not sure cause I've only had the car a month now. I've also been thinking maybe I'll find like a type r 6 speed at a scrapyard cause the cvt it quite annoying. Civic gang
