2023 Honda Civic Type R vs The Competition // Drag Race, Lap Times & Review

2022 ж. 14 Қар.
1 635 729 Рет қаралды

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R ($50,050 in Canada, $42,894 in the US) has a lot to prove. Not only does it have to succeed its highly-regarded previous generation, but it needs to go toe to toe with some serious hatchback heavyweights. Such as the Volkswagen Golf R ($47,495 CAD, $44,740) and the Ford Focus RS ($48,964 CAD, $36,775 USD) among others. Thomas and James are eager to see how this new FL5 generation of Civic Type R has been improved and how it compares to its competitors on the track and drag strip. The results aren’t always as you might expect when a new generation comes along! Let’s see how the FL5 holds up. We hope you enjoy the episode! Thanks for watching. SUBSCRIBE!

    • Wider rubber means more rolling resistance and more aero drag which weighs in at higher speeds. It also means better launch and better cornering which all plays out. Cars must indeed be very similar with subtle configuration changes leading to measured differences. Not too surprising really.

  • 265 ps4s tires vs old 245 continentals, I'm not surprised in the slightest it was faster on the track. That's a huge tire and grip difference.

    @mitchellbutalla6515@mitchellbutalla6515 Жыл бұрын
    • Yeah, I feel like that could account for literally all of the time difference to be honest. Would love to see this done again but with a set of FL5 wheels shoved on the FK8. Car wouldn't be set up for them but I wouldn't be surprised if it was still within a couple of tenths then. Also, 265s are insane on a hot hatch. A new RWD M4 Comp only has 255 rear tyres but that has 510hp and weighs more than most towns. Those tyres and the relatively poor economy (I'm assuming not much improved since the FK8) mean the FL5 has comparable running costs to some fairly serious sports cars that it can't compete with as a driving experience- a 991 Carrera would cost the same to buy and run, at least here in the UK. In terms of driving pleasure, that's really not a comparison the FL5 wants to be part of...

    • Final Drive is what people don't realize makes the difference. If it has enough in the torque curve to pull the gears it'll have a wave you feel. If not, it does that... I have the highway gear in my truck; 3.55 ratio. 70 mph at 2,000rpm but with that you get 1-2 shift at 35mph and the 2-3 at 70.. with 4 & 5 being overdrive. So I run OD off to avoid it shifting too much in the city, negating the "milage gains" though which is pointless because it has enough torque to leave in 2nd and 4/5 doesn't shift until 40-50 with lockup around 52mph. So old auto or new Manual, gearing matters

    • With front drive, you have to roll in the power. 1/2 clutch it until the tires bite and then drop the hammer. The hard drop after burning some clutch while finessing the traction makes for a great take-off. Unlike RWD which need the hard drop to put weigh on the rear wheels. If your launching like a RWD, you're doing all wrong.
