It's not made for lubrication it's a cleaner degreaser
It actually does a short lasting lubrication, at least is something
Technically a Solvent and Water Displacer (WD). It doesn't lubricate so much as dissolve whatever is causing friction.
It has lubricating properties. Check before commenting!

Its actual design purpose was for NASA spacecraft, hence why they used to have a rocket on the can. Its use was to keep condensation out of sensitive electrics hence WD (water displacement)

WD-40" is abbreviated from the term "Water Displacement, 40th formula", suggesting it was the result of the 40th attempt to create the product. The spray, composed of various hydrocarbons, was originally designed to be used by Convair to protect the outer skin of the Atlas missile from rust and corrosion. Mechanic used back in my day to dry out distributor caps with moisture to stop them from misfiring

Or in a lock cylinder. They make special dry lubes for those that work much better.

WD 40 makes a antichrosion agent. I used for my old Rav that had rust. It works really well to take off that top layer, and as a sealer.
Not sure if I can take advise from a person that spells corrosion inhibitor 'antichrosion' never heard of chrosion, I think you've used some anti chromosome agents sunshine 👍
Before winter, I spray WD40 SILICONE (not the regular wd40) on the door rubber trims, it will not freeze on frame when trying to open doors on extreme cold mornings, also spray it on hood and trunk rubber trim, so it will be easy to access on battery, if you will need to jump start your car... ✌️

You actually use a lubricant for the squeaky hinges. The wd 40 actually works but doesn't stay as long as a lubricant so you'll need to go back and apply the wd 40 every couple weeks. While a normal lubricant will last a good while
WD40 has a little lubricant, but it's mostly a water repellant/displacement spray. Pretty much everything he used it on has a much better alternative. Lithium grease for squeaks and light rust/prevention, Graphite for locks etc.
This 👆.
Do not I repeat, *DO NOT* use WD-40 as "lubrication" for car door hinges. WD-40 is not a lubricant, but rather a "Water Displacement" fluid. Putting that on hinges can actually dry and cause them to move less freely over time
Why would you want water in your door hinges? Wd is a crappy lubricant but your comment makes no sense. Displacing water will not cause any harm to a hinge. Your door hinges just need a good spray-able grease or long lasting oil.
And certainly don’t put in your lock……
Ya except for that is not true at all. It is literally a special blend of lubricants that make up the stuff so to say it is not a lubricant is just silly
White lithium grease, spray.
@@rhess10 Yeah. WD40 (the brand) literally makes over 4 kind of specialized lubricants that I know of - White Lithium, silicone grease, Dry Lube and even their traditional stuff works because it has additional stuff added into the regular formula that actually makes it work as a lubricant

People, this is a penetration oil, and the only thing it do, is go as deep as it can in microscopic cracks to lubricate and losen bolts and nuts. When you take the fact that it's first job is to penetrate into materials cracks, it will do the same on rubber, plastics and paint. It will destroy them on long term. What you see is a short term solutions for a long term problem.
👍👍👍👍👍
Also exceeds manufacturer viscosity specifications if you need a substitute for blinker fluid.

Do not put WD 40 in a locking mechanism. Use a dry lubricant for that.
Don’t use it on door hinges. It will actually make them wear out faster. Use an actual lubricating oil or white lithium grease
Dude basically said spay it on anything 🤣
He probably also use it as a cooking spray
He messed his lock my spraying wd40 into key hole ...lol
For battery terminals and hood latch, ok if they are corroded. But, after a day, it is better to dry it and apply a proper grease to lubricate it for a long time. WD40 will not last more than 2 - 3 weeks, especially in spaces that take water (rain, carwash). Good wrenching everyone, take care of your ride
Does it works for my back? Or any alternative?
Yes, stick the tip of nozzle up your little Peter then start spraying

If you live in a dirt blowing area, don’t use a wet lubricant for anything exposed to the environment. Dirt/sand sticks to wet (WD-40) and then it’s really gummed up
Use lithium grease instead for squeaky hinges. It won’t dry up like wd40

Use a lubricant like graphite silicone or graphite on locks and not a solvent that will remove all the lubricant off the cylinder.
Some of these parts utilize grease as a lubrication, spraying them with WD-40 will further diminish the effectiveness of the grease and will only result in the problem getting worse in the long term!
Be better to use a silicone product, especially around painted surfaces. Silicone is a better lube too👍😺.
Do Not Put that 💩 in a key hole or ignition.
Naah it is fine, it will just evaporate the other day.
Fun fact. NASA. Made wd40. It's called. Water displacement 40 .... 40 being the 40th time they got it right. You welcome
Need to get that extra bit of dust in every nook n cranny. For real though it did get spray paint off my mom's hard wood floor.
an actual useful tip, removes the adhesive from Band-Aid. Useful when you have a Band-Aid on your leg where there’s hair and painful to remove. It doesn’t sting the wound either.
I can hear the smell from my sofa
They forgot it cures toenail fungus too 🥴
One thing never do is use it in a key slot because the oil will gather dust and grime what you rather use is graphite powder it's a dry lubricant and made for Locks as a mechanic I have replaced so many lock cylinders on cars because people are spraying oil in them all it does is the other dust from outside and it might work for a week then it just gets worse
For key cylinders and things of that nature where moisture isn’t supposed to reach, dry lubrications are much better and safer
And how to send the car to the repair shop faster^^
Он даже девке своей пшикает)))
You shouldn't sick wd-40 in the keyholes, it can cause a buildup of grime. Key lubricant is made from a fine graphite powder due to its dry nature
WD-40 has water and oil in it. I had a New set of connecting rods put WD-40 on the rods with coffee filters in Ziplock bags and a few months later went to use the rods the connecting rods had rust on them. WD-40 works great on lock cylinders and to clean metal. But Not for doors, metal and things you don't want to rust. Lock cylinders don't rust and you don't want to use graphite it gums the springs up in the lock.
Её даже пить можно, вд-ха спасёт мир
You can also spray WD-40/brake cleaners on yellow jackets and wasps.
Any professional that repairs vehicles for a living, by opening their tool box will not have WD40 as any routine usage! It works with a hose-removal tool to aid in the removal of rubber hoses & installation. That’s it. Dry graphite goes into lock cylinders. Dielectric grease is used on electrical connectors. Silicone grease is in the owner manual for use on weatherstrip rubbers to hydrate them & keep them from sticking in the winter. Used or new motor oil lubricates hinges because WD40 evaporates in 3 minutes, never to help anything ever again. It leaves behind no protection or film. Issued in WW-II, it was used on gen-sets to power field radar and electronic boards who cooled to the dew point to displace water. Plastic may shine, but dull in two days. A can of WD40 has it’s place in the real repair world, the back of the cabinet behind the stuff that “IS” useful! DK, ASE Master Tech since 78
Don’t get me wrong WD-40 which was invented by the military which means water dispensing formula 40 works great for many things hinges springs locks is a temporary fix it will dissolve Existing lubricant a better fix involves cleaning with brake cleaner and either dry silicone or graphite lubricant
It also works as a starter fluid for diesel engines.
People this guy is not telling you that you need to wear gloves when you're using WD-40
Only two small points I disagree with. Never put WD40 or similar lubricants in locks, (This includes silicone spray lubricants.) as this will only collect dust and eventually jamb up the lock. Use a proper lock lubricant that leaves no sticky or silicone residue. If your spray can has a precision hose on it, you shouldn’t end up spraying like you are spraying the side of a barn. Close in, precision, minimal movement. Keep the over spray to a minimum. Also, if you do use any aerosol spray in your engine bay, especially an oil based one, ensure the engine is off and cold, and allow the spray to dry and fumes to disperse before starting the engine. Now, I don’t need anyone to reply with “That’s obvious.” because there are PLENTY of people who don’t know, and ignite their vehicle as a result.
Just remember,it’s still an oil based lubricant and will attract more dust when moving parts not involved.
Its not a lubricant.

Funfact: WD40 is not a lubricant, if you use it to clean something you should apply a Lubricant afterwards if it should be Lubricated. WD40 actually removes the Lubrication. If you don't believe me you can just read it on their website
Spay it on a rag and put it on your door seals for winter no more frozen seals
Water Displacement & the 40th created formula was the one used. WD-40
Did my man really use a razor to dig into the clear coat to get stickers of?! Yea definitely don't do that. Heat gun my friend.... Also don't use it as a "car wax" or whatever on your clear coat.... Wd40 is more of an degreaser and solvent, unless your trying to shine up your cars clear coat for a sketchy quick sale sure whatever but at no circumstances should you use this on your paint! Do your research or better yet use a product meant for car paint....
Can you apply it on window frame for ease of sliding or only silicone should be used?
Problem with the plastic parts is the dirt gets attached a lot easier then if you did it with soap and water works good for dirt bike plastics underneath, the dirt won’t stick so bad
WD-40 also works as a great dietary supplement.
Also if you have anything sticky like spray adhesive or grimey like tar on your hands it breaks it down to where it can be wiped off.
Don't use WD40 as lubricant folks, it will just clean old lubricants away but will not provide any. After the use of WD40, always apply new lubricant where it's needed.
Grease is for horizontal areas oil is for vertical, WD-40 is neither. It displaces water while it lasts.
Lol I love the spraying of the mass air, helps alot!
White lithium grease is better for most of that. Putting it on plastic parts will dehydrate them and make them brittle.
Last night I was fighting for like 30 mins to take my exhaust off of my aftermarket hangers to put in a bigger exhaust. I found out that some WD40, some sea clamps and a little elbow grease does it with ease. Such a life savor!
Never spray a liquid lubricant into a lock, it will collect dust and eventually clog it up. Use graphite, rubbing a pencil on your key then insert and remove a few times.
You’re supposed to lubricate locks with graphite dust so dust doesn’t collect in the tumblers
1. Keep it off the paint. 2. Don't use wd 40 on key locks. Graphite dust is a much better option. 3. I'd disconnect battery terminals to actually remove the erosion between the connectors instead of just a surface cleaning.
Every automotive painters nightmare!
Spray down window tracks to keep windows sliding up and down easy.
Yeah, don’t use it on the hood latch or the key hole. Use graphite for the key way, and engine oil for the hood latch. Graphite doesn’t pick up dirt, like wd40 will, and engine oil will stay on the latch whereas wd40 will evaporate and might even wash off the existing lubricant causing the latch to stick. Also drops of engine oil for the door hinges. If you’re selling the car, spraying wd40 on the plastics under hood makes them look more attractive.
You should use it to clean your break rotors aswell and use break cleaner for lubrication instead
As an ex spray painter, do not use to remove decals or on paint work.
I use it for the salad, amazing taste too
Wd-40 is a not a grease, actually it will remove any grease still left
WD 40 is notorious for attracting dirt so keep that in mind. Do not use it in your locks. Use a dry lube like Graphite if you have to.
Never wipe any plastic pieces with WD40! It makes it shinier but as you drive it collects more dirt and dust which will be harder for cleaning next time
I spray it on my motorcycle tires everytime I ride 👍
😂
When he started wiping it into his plastic trim I knew this was goin west
On god 😂😂😂😂
Never allow to spray on the painting , it damage clear coat after drying . Had that case once ...
Dry lube works better. Won't soak up dirt and cause faster wear when you don't keep up with it. At that point it becomes a cleaner over a lube
Regular old WD40 is not a lubricant, but they do make a lubricant.
Use silicone lubricant spray on car window "furs" for smooth electric windows. On locks and to lubricate plastics or UPVC double glazed window hinges and locks I use good furniture polish because the waxed work well as lubricant.
Just use silicone spray instead... WD-40 doesn't last and should only be used in emergency situations. Silicone spray lasts longer and doesn't get as sticky. But the best lubricant for your car is definitely a heavy grease or lube. Lasts waaay longer than both previous lubricants and does a better job if you can get it in there.
For bolts, if you clean them from rust and do not protect them obviously the bolts will be rustier quicker. Wd 40 doesn't protect for long at all.
You poored water onto of your oxygen sensor? Why? That's crazy.
I used to know a lady who used WD-40 on her elbows and her knees. She swore by it. Never use WD-40 on a lock cylinder, use graphite powder. WD-40 washes of the good lubricant away.
You can also add WD40 to your gas tank. It will lube your crankshaft
