  • I know nothing of Dune. Never read the books, never saw the Lynch movie, so I watched this with zero expectations. I came away stunned. two and a half hours felt like fifteen minutes. A genuine cinematic classic already.

    • Me too. Although I didn't see it in a cinema, I will rectify that. I watched it fairly large screen on HBO Max while stoned. I love every fucking minute of it. Seen it 2ce now.

    • Similar experience, I just saw it today and I wasn't sure what it would be like. It's gotten good reviews, but most I've seen really undersold it. That was one hell of a movie, the kind that doesn't come around very often. Huge budget, huge scale, and yet it was very well written, IMO, and even more than that it was made by a director who seems to know filmmaking and storytelling very well. There's a dreamlike feel to it, a balanced surrealism, and it has a real depth and majesty, like a massive, slow moving machine that takes great force to begin gaining speed, but once it's really going, it's impossible to stop. It was slow feeling for me, but utterly mesmerizing. I actually tend to prefer movies to be a little slower paced, so I'm definitely not saying that as a complaint. I'm looking forward to the next one, and I'm going to have to read the books.

Denis has said that they did not film any material for the later part of the movie with the intention of using it in the beginning of part 2, but this looks like it's just that. Perhaps it's simply a cut scene and will never be seen.

  • I just saw this in theaters today and when it ended my reaction was : how was that two and a half hours?!? It was incredible. Can’t wait to see it again. I joked with my boyfriend: you wanna just go watch it again?😂 I really hope Denis releases an extended director’s cut! I’d love to see an even longer version and more behind the scenes. And so stoked for part 2!!!!!

  • I finished the movie in theatre and i was like, ok great scale nice setup, not bad but not amazing. It's been two week and the movie is constantly creeping in my mind and i watched scenes of it everyday since... I guess it's says a lot about the living world and cinematography Denis created.

  • By far the best movie of the year. It is groundbreaking. Like all of the greats, it raised the bar for Cinema. It will be a shame if it doesn't walk away with many Oscars.

  • Better than the Book. I’ve been waiting for Denis’ Dune since my 15th (born in 1964). A Denis’ Trilogy is well deserved & much awaited.
