In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.

AND THE TASK WAS SERENDIPITOUS
Greg: _Fuck_ you, ex-partner. _[audience explodes into applause]_
First thing I thought of when I saw the video name.
Everyone needs to know Sarah's backstory and how she got into comedy: Sarah got married at 21, and several years later her husband breaks her heart and cruelly tells her he never loved her. He divorces her and Sarah has to move back home with her parents. She joined a local theater/comedy writing club and she discovered her talent for comedy. And that fortunately led her to the career she has today. The "ex-partner" she refers to is her ex husband. Greg & Alex (and most of the powerhouses in the comedy industry) have great respect for how Sarah built her career from a broken heart. The song is about the loneliness and pain she suffered after her divorce. And that's why Greg is so amazing, telling that ex-partner of hers to F-off. Sarah is wonderful and such an incredible comedy talent, and I loved her so much on Taskmaster.
@@jackwang9536 Boo hoo, no one asked.
@losdeldostacos8007 Sarah's backstory is more relevant to the comment than your opinion on it, shut up
@@losdeldostacos8007Have you considered premature termination?
Greg saying "f*ck you ex-partner" is one of the sweetest moments to ever happen on this show! LOVE this task!
She didn’t deserve five points, though. Just because her ex shouldn’t have said her singing was bad it doesn’t mean that it isn’t. It’s O.K. to be bad at some things. She was good at almost all the tasks.
@@icturner23 No. You need to know Sarah's backstory and why this was SO important to Greg. Sarah got married young, and after several years her husband cruelly breaks her heart and divorces her. She moves back in with her parents, and to recover from heartbreak she joins a comedy writing club in South Shields. And that fortunately led her to the career she has today. The "ex-partner" she refers to is her ex husband. The song is about the loneliness and pain she suffered after her divorce. Greg knows this. And that's why Greg is so amazing, telling that ex-partner of hers to F-off. This isn't about whether she sings like Mariah Carey, this is about a woman who rebuilt her life to become a star on Taskmaster.
@icturner23 I disagree. Even without the backstory, Greg appeared to find Sarah's song, and sweet, vulnerable rendition, emotionally touching. Sarah didn't need pity points.
@@daniellamcgee4251 Only YOU choose to perceive it as pity points. Everyone else perceived it as a validation for Sarah's achievements and a celebration of strength. Remember when Bob Mortimer won a prize task for bringing in a blowing device that measures breathing ability after heart/lung surgery? Or when Dara brought in a chunk of his leg bone? That's why it was important and powerful.
@@jackwang9536 Actually, I was just quoting the multiple comments here by people saying that Greg shouldn"t have given Sarah 'pity points'. So, I was responding to their words. Pity points was not my phase. In fact, my comment disagreed with that suggestion of pity points for Sarah. So I am pretty sure I wrote the opposite of what you think I wrote. But I am in Australia, so maybe I wrote it upside down. 🙃
Fern has said publicly that she's annoyed she didn't get five points for this, I hope she reads these comments and sees that the song has been stuck in everybody's head ever since
I think Fern deserved the 5 points, too. Unfortunately, Greg forgot that he called Fern's 'a masterpiece'. Fern's and Dara's were the cleverest use of their words.
@@daniellamcgee4251 I think Sarah deserved 5 points too though, and it was a nice moment
@@thomasthomasson2319 I agree. I think the sentiment of Sarah's was lost on those who believe Greg gave her pity points.
She deserved ALL the points!
if it were me doing the scoring, it would probably go joint 3rd for Dara, John, and Munya (who really got robbed in my opinion, his freestyle worked really well with the tempo of Mozart) and joint 1st between Fern and Sarah.
You only see for a second at the end but Sarah Milligan is genuinely moved by Greg's generosity, and you can see glimpses that he might have been a caring teacher
Speaking of only seeing it for a second, that wrinkly chin just after 8:30 is hard to fake. Usually only occurring with grief or sadness. I think the moment & audience support choked her up though she tried to stave it off with humor by dry heaving a few seconds earlier. Though I think there was an edit there. There may have been a prolonged ovation.
IT IS ME FERN BRADY, ME FERN BRADY, I'M THE RIGHTFUL QUEEN was stuck in my head for quite a while.
Everyone should sing in their own homes at least occasionally. Even if you sound terrible it usually implies you're happy and comfortable where you are, so hearing someone happily screeching is much better in my opinion than making someone feel like they have to be reserved all the time.
Have you bugged our property? That describes my wife's singing to a t.....
I once sang in the shower as a teenager and when I got out my mother asked me, all concerned, if I had stubbed my toe.
This might sound a tad strange, but I used to be so scared of bothering people with my voice that I refused to sing out loud, even when alone just in case neighbours heard. Your comment made me realise how much happier I am these days because now I do let myself sing when I feel like it, I'm not burdened any longer. Thanks for commenting this.
Well I guess I'll stay unhappy and uncomfortable.
@@mxich8791 same, sort of, I now own my own home and consequently can plague everyone with my songs. If the neighbours don’t like it, they can move.😂
I think of Fern Brady's song at least once a week
"Too British!" "A no for Mozart, then." 😄😄😄😄 Sarah's song was lovely.
I give Dara 5 pts best constructed song. Sara 5pts, most courageous song. Fern 5pts for best ear worm dis track. John 5 pts, silliest song. Munya 5 pts, for smoothest and most posh song.
The "In Prague" joke from Dara is severly underrated
I feel like I need to send this video to my HS history teacher, with all the times he derailed class to talk about the defenestrations of Prague

ME FERN BRADY ME FERN BRADY has been so aggressively stuck in my head that i forgot how great the other ones were
Alex: Where do you think people will sing your song? Sarah: In their heads? She was spot on. I havent been able to listen to Clair de Lune since without singing "biscuits are my catnip too"
Throughout this series, John always looked like he was going to cry, but he looked so genuinely happy while singing his song. And I always forget how good Fern's song was. I mean, Munya's was great, but that's less impressive since he's already a lyricist.
I'm not even a rap fan and I can tell Munya killed it! Definitely the smoothest of the bunch Hopefully I spelled his name right😂
not enough love for john’s song calling the takeaway to complain about the satsuma in his curry. HE IS FREE TO COMPLAIN (hello?)
I feel bad for Sarah. Such stress over something she is so good at. Well deserved points for her.
It was a vile thing to tell her, but do you not think you're going too far in the other direction? I won't insult her singing, but calling it "so good" seems quite a stretch?
@@callum9999her singing isn’t amazing but she was “so good” at this task! She picked what I think was the hardest pieces to add lyrics to, and she wrote an actual narrative using a bunch of random words. It was great!
@@zacharyal-radiedeh7473 Indeed the task was to WRITE a song, not to sing it.
I think it was a very emotionally raw performance, which I value especially in seasons where not everyone is a trained singer/musician. I dunno, hers always touches me with its tone.
Fern Brady's song has stayed in my head ever since this episode aired. I randomly sing it from time to time.
Fern Brady is the rightful Queen 👸🏻
Munya's rap was great and criminally underrated.
It made no sense.
I can’t hear that tune now without imaging “it’s me fern brady me fern brady”

"You're not writing lyrics to this one ... well, if he didn't" is wildly apt and hilarious! I love John's perfect, weird comedy brain

Fern's song lives rent-free in my head. I'll constantly find myself singing "and the task was serendipitous"
John's song could be on the next Sparks album and no one would be surprised
I was getting a real Klaus Sperber vibe from John's delivery. 😍👏
If I wasn’t already inappropriately infatuated with Greg before this, his absolute dismay and reaction to Sarah’s ex-partner’s reaction would’ve cinched it ❤
I understand Sarah's ex-husband is a bit of a recluse, but I do hope he at least sees this.
She’s a Gem!
This was my favourite task from that taskmaster series - seeing the contestant musical and creative side
Ever since this episode first aired, whenever I successfully finish something that had come with a lot of anxiety, "It's me Fern Brady, me Fern Brady, I'm the rightful queen!" plays in my head. Sometimes, I even hum the tune out loud. It's my tiny, private victory celebration.
Let's hope Dara's song doesn't start a 30 years war.
Dara and Munya's were by far the best. Not even close how did they get the least points?!
My thoughts exactly
One of the most iconic tasks in taskmaster
One of the best tasks.. this season had the biggest heart
Icl seems like a lot of tension in this... not sure the contestants really like each other
"Me Fern Brady me Fern Brady" randomly gets stuck in my head every couple of months since this aired.
I live in Prague and yes, we defenestrate a lot.
This is the sweetest that I have ever seen Greg in my life!
*IT IS ME, FERN BRADY, ME, FERN BRADY, I’M THE RIGHTFUL QUEEN* Indeed you are 👸🏻
This task is brilliant!! Knowing all those tunes makes the absurd lyrics even better 😂😂 John's might just be my favorite
Sarah's song reminds me of Mr. Rodger's Neighborhood. Even without the background, I thought it was deserving of 5 points but Fern also should've gotten 5. 10/10 task
“Defenestration” has been my favourite word for 15 years since secondary school and I can’t tell you how validating it was to hear Dara use it. (Also yeah FECK YOU ex partner)
I know everyone‘s favourite is Fern‘s and she did a really good one. But I‘ve always found Dara‘s the best 😬😅

"Wheel Up Again" Three Words that have never before been uttered to little Alex Horne.
These were all so good, I wouldn't know where to begin trying to rank them.
Poor Sarah. I genuinely do think her song was nice, and her voice is not unpleasant! I hope her ex-partner saw that... >:'( I just want to give her a nice hug and cup of tea. She seems like such a nice lady. I wish her the best.
I've been responding to a lot of comments about Sarah's song because people don't know Sarah's backstory. The ex-partner was her ex-husband who she married at 21. He cruelly divorced her, telling her he never loved her after 7 years of marriage. She had to move back in with her parents. Her song touches on the loneliness and pain of that divorce. After her heartbreak, Sarah joined a local comedy-writing group in Newcastle. And her talent for comedy launched her to Edinburgh several years later, and now she's a star. Greg and Alex both know how she got into comedy, and that's why they honored her. And in a later task, Sarah really melted my heart with the one-minute play that Fern acted. Fern was sitting and talking about all these cats - and those cats represented the souls of the people who died in an old-folks home. Sarah's comedy & writing has just an incredible connection with humanity.
@jackwang9536 thank you for taking the time to explain that to people mentioning it in the comments. I'm glad she was able to get into comedy, and I hope that she has found peace and happiness in her life. What a cruel man to do that to someone... 😢
IM LITTERALLY WATCHING TASKMASTER RN
The most heartwarming moment in the entire show is Greg dropping his guard and showing legit concern for Sarah, and then snapping back in the same breath with "F*ck you ex-partner."
Sarah has a lovely singing voice, so I too will join Greg in saying f* you ex-partner. Big up to Fern too, this must have been terrifying for her and she did marvellously.
Munya was brutally underscored here. And dare I say it, Sarah had the worst song.
My theory is that ever since Noel swept the art tasks in series 4, Greg has been harsher on contestants who have a profession/skill advantage in a task and/or will be more generous to those without said skills. Another example is giving Jessica’s song the win over James’ classic ‘Over My Shoulder’, likely because James is a musician (not that I will ever complain at my girl Jess getting the win though)
I was just listening to Turkish March a few hours ago, thinking of this task
I just had ME FERN BRADY in my head all week!!
I loved them all.
Sarah held back some tears😅
These are great but they can't beat Rose with her country remix of the TM theme.
It is crazy I know the words to each and every one of these songs
Sarah getting the win is by far the most X-Factor move in the history of the show. Fern and Munya got robbed.

i was expecting these to be horrible and embarrassing (like a lot of taskmaster), but every one of them showed such talent in writing their songs in an incredibly short time, and they were all fantastically performed! after hearing john's first i actually said 'oh s**t' assuming noone was going to out do that. when scoring, as he said he wasnt going to give anyone a 1, i was expecting him to say he wasnt giving anyone a two either! also F**k you ex-partner! and anyone else that says something like that to anyone whatsoever!

"Jesus is Lord! D'you need that many wires? Is that an iPod Touch? What was it, World War 2?" Munya really did feel sorry for Old Man Alex. I bet he offered to cut up Alex's food.
How often do they include extra footage (like I think they did here of the contestants going through the music choices- that wasn't in the released edit of the episode, right? actually, the “too british” bit is seeming familiar now, so it must just be a memory failure and there was no extra footage here?) in these concentrated videos? I used to think they would include such, being given the opportunity to separate the task out into its own expanded standalone video, and bookmarked a bunch of them to watch but then I tried one and it didn't 😢. (I misinterpreted the “full” in “full task”)
Super sweet Sarah Millican
I think Sarah's voice is actually lovely. There's a reason the guy who said otherwise is an ex.
