The Vegan Ironman Diet of Cro-Mags’ John Joseph

2015 ж. 27 Қыр.
3 775 478 Рет қаралды

John Joseph is a very well-known figure in both the hardcore punk and vegan communities. As lead singer of legendary New York hardcore band Cro-Mags, he's used his status and platform to spread the word about the benefits of plant-based diets and PMA (positive mental attitude).
What not a lot of people know about John is that on top of being an active touring musician and author, he also competes in the Ironman triathlons. These brutal tests of endurance consist of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile run. To say a lot of training and diet go into competing and finishing an Ironman would be an understatement.
We follow John as he prepares for an event in Boulder, CO to see what fuels a plant-based endurance athlete under such intense training.

  • Man, I watched this back in 8th grade (Sep. 2015). Since then, Ive made a full recovery form a brain tumor (Oct. 2015), went vegan and as of Sep. 2022 I am also an Ironman. Many more signed up for next year. Thank you for being such a big part of MY Ironman journey, John.

    • Man I thought I was the only one going thru nostalgia. Mine was in 2016. Summer. I was sitting in at home after an all day MTB ride up in MARIN CA. Wanted to change my diet and I saw this guy on here "KZhead". Man total BadAss. and in a Punk Band as well in NYC? Super Inspirational. Now. 12/4/2022. 7 years later. MTB has all been phased out. Long Distance Running / Ultra Marathons is the new thing. Eating Clean and Doing Intermittent Fasting to stay in shape and most importantly Racing Weight. Sure saved thousands when it comes to MTB GEAR / Parts etc. Now it's just RUNNING SHOES and essential clothing. Moving Forward one step at a time. Keep Crushing it Bro.

Vegetarianism sounds good on paper, but you suffer from low energy, low wound healing, low B12 level, low libido to save animal which kill its fellow animal within a heartbeat and not think twice, its not worth it I thought. I can take their lifeforce and use it to move living beings to a more peaceful, advanced place.

Meat gives you dopamine rush long before you manage to absorb any nutrients, that's why it makes you feel good.(and look forward to it). But so do drugs, social media, watching porn etc.. • Mimic western high meat/dairy diets and you end up having their main killers - heart disease, diabetes, stroke, cancer. Just look at the current physique of Indians. 90% are fat due to high consumption of McDonald's, KFC, Dominos, and myriad biryani places. Go vegan, Be healthy.

      @hagarthehorrible1391@hagarthehorrible13918 жыл бұрын
    • Im not a vegan but dont consume mcdonalds, KFC, DOminos etc. I do have a diet heavy on fruits and vegetables. Chicken and fish is the protein I eat. My whole family just spend the last 2 weeks with the flu, i didnt even get sick. You cant be healthy and follow western food habits, thats for sure, but you can be healthy and not be a vegan.

      @carlosparra8976@carlosparra89768 жыл бұрын
    • Carlos Parra unfortunately we Indians don't even get enough time to work out or even go on a walk due to our hectic work schedules and traffic. Adding to that sports and physical activity are not given any importance in our education system leading to very unhealthy lifestyles. And the curries that go with the meats have a lot of oil which anyone can say is not healthy. Not to forget the hormones and bad food that's fed to the chicks and fish to make them grow big soon. Eating vegan is the best way to maintain health. And I've been on both sides of this. Was a heavy meat eater and now a vegan and can definitely say I feel much better and healthier on a vegan lifestyle. And of course the cause for animal well being trumps any of this.

      @hagarthehorrible1391@hagarthehorrible13918 жыл бұрын
    • good for you man that you could break bad habits even if your environment is still stuck in them. I myself said good bye to red meats and dairy but still consume fish and chicken and eggs. Lots of raw food, fruits and natural juices, almonds and peanuts, a lot of green tea and little refined sugar. Also lots of physical activity. Im not a vegan but like I said, I have an overall great health without entirely giving up animal protein.
