In our previous discussions, we learned from Al-Balkhi about four core conditions of the soul: anger, terror, sadness, and obsession.
He warns that these conditions, when intensified, can lead to harmful physical and emotional states. In this episode, Dr. Rania Awaad discusses Al-Balkhi’s characterization of these four conditions, including their symptoms and effects on an individual’s wellbeing.

"A Journey Inward: Understanding the Needs of Your Soul"
This Ramadan, Maristan will draw on “Sustenance of the Soul” by Abu Zayd al-Balkhi, a renowned Persian Muslim scholar, to explore emotional resilience and holistic well-being. Each episode will cover chapters addressing various topics, including the link between the body and soul; managing emotions like sadness, fear, anger, and obsession; and practical strategies for coping. Insights from the Quran and ahadeeth will offer valuable guidance for addressing personal and community mental health challenges amid life’s trials and tribulations.

  • Anger is mentioned so much in Therapy but there is no method that has been effective in dealing with it or treating it. I spent years in therapy, various Psychologists, even in an intensive psychotherapy program in a hospital setting, but it didn’t help. I’ve also had a Muslim Therapist for 2 years with no success. I have now turned to the Quran trying to read it regularly.

    • It's interesting how it's always attributed to men but having worked in high traffic public spaces I've seen more women with this issue. I have spiritual understanding of why more women may suffer and agree Quran and dua can help immensely 😊
