Could this be anything other than the timing being out ? Do I need to get a timing chain kit and bite the bullet ? Thanks in advance for all help/advice.

  • nice video, am planning on doing this myself next week with the same FAI timing kit. couple of questions: did you have to drain the coolant for this job and if so how easy is it to refill and bleed the system? also do you know what type and size of socket you need for turning the crankshaft? thanks

    @slimegremlin2304@slimegremlin23049 ай бұрын
    • Coolant has to be drained (you'll remove the water pump to access 2 allen key bolts). Be careful tho, I managed to kill one of the torx screws (since I didn't have any torq T wrench I just used a ratchet and socket). This happened due to being angled on the bolt because of the ratchet I used. Another piece of advice. The lower coolant hose attached to oil pan on the chain side will NOT drain all of it, once you unscrew the waterpump, the rest will flow out. With a good OBD device you can start a bleeding procedure, or you can do it the old school way: turn up the heater and let your engine idle for a while, you'll see the level dropping in no time. it's a multisocket 21mm for the crankshaft, follow the video every step. At first I thought the crankshaft locking pin was locking the crankshaft at TDC, but this is not the case (for me at least), this pin is only used to remove the crankshaft pulley.

      @M4ddTr4xx@M4ddTr4xx9 ай бұрын
    • @slimegremlin2304 Thanks for the comment. I didn’t drain the coolant, just took the pipe of the radiator at 2:39 and that’s all the coolant that came out and just topped it up at the end. I done this some time ago so I think the socket for the crank was 19mm (12point) but @M4ddTr4xx mentioned in the comments it’s 21mm so not 100% sure.

Thanks in advance

    @dixy2406@dixy24063 ай бұрын
    • Thanks mate.. have you tried to take the sloppiness out by turning back the cams? (from cam bolts) If you can get the tool into place with slight pressure pushing it in and get one cam to line up, then turn the other cam slightly so you can insert the tool fully into place. Hope this helps.

If timing marks all line up after x2 turns (put timing tools back in place) then tighten bolts to the correct torque settings. Hope that helps

  • Good morning, ask. At the tip of the crankshaft, apart from the sprocket with the teeth where the distribution chain goes, the cylindrical casauillo with its oring internally, the timing belt and the pulley for the accessory belt. DOES IT HAVE 2 WASHERS? When disassembling I did not realize and I only have 2 washers but they are equal to each other, but the detail is that the external dianeting of the washer is the same as that of the cylindrical bushing, but the internal diameter is larger than the diameter of the tip of the crankshaft remaining with clearance. In one part of the manual there is a breakdown and it does not include the 2 washers and in another part of the manual there is a breakdown with the 2 washers but these are 2 washers of different sizes from each other, and the title is written as "repair kit "This washer is diamond coated

      @iAutoTech@iAutoTech2 ай бұрын
    • @iAutoTech won't be doing that. I had a golf same engine twincharged in 2017, took it to a local mechanic for similar work and the crankshaft pulley fell off while driving some while later. Wrecked the car. Will just look for a reputable place. How much do you think I should be charged for whole chain kit replacement including labour, ball park?

      @hnc9@hnc92 ай бұрын
    • @@hnc9costs wise it depends on the garage labour rate per hour. This job will take no more then 6hours and this timing chain kit was £300.
