  • Great job with the bunting, when i first started working at 16 i was an apprentice in Tailoring and the machines we used were very similar to yours but were Singer and luckily for us they had been motorised so were easier to work they still had the treadle and looked amazing, at home i had a table top Singer which had a handle to work it and that had a shuttle bobbin, lovely machine but so heavy not too sure what happened to it. The only good thing with the treadle it's good exercise for your legs.

  • `Love love love your machine! I learnt to sew at school on a treadle machine, probably a Singer. Then my Mum gave me a Singer treadle machine for my 13th birthday, and I made all of my clothes on it for many years, drafted my own patterns and thought I was re-inventing the wheel! I loved my old treadle so much, it could sew very heavy canvas as well as very fine chiffon. I'm looking out for one at the moment, they're so reliable and easy to maintain. And with looming power cuts over Winter here in New Zealand, I can always mend or make something if I need to! The bunting is going to look great down the drive! I'll bet you had very good calf muscles by the time you finished that job! Big hugs from a cold, wet and windy New Zealand xx

  • I'm a day late to this but I was so glad you showed the bobbin. I've watched several Chateau vlogs and English sewing vlogs using very old machines and I always had bobbin questions. I rather like the idea of encasing the bobbin that way. However, it certainly doesn't seem to hold much thread. Noticed that the sewing foot is not still while winding. Must say I do like that feature on my newer machines. My mother had a treadle Singer machine and made many things before finally using the metal work for a frame for a small table. Not sure what happened to the actual machine, but I still use the table (don't move it much as it's heavy).

  • When putting the thread on the bobbin…on the wheel of your machine there is a smaller wheel which you turn counterclockwise. This allows you to do the bobbin really fast and evenly. It also keeps the needle part of the machine disengaged while doing the bobbin. Just be sure to tighten it again when the bobbin is full and you’re ready to move on.

  • Someone gave me an old machine like that with the case that made it portable. It had been electrified with a small motor bolted down to the back with a leather strap from the motor to the machine...sadly even that was so old that I couldn't use it with the electricity in France which is 220, the motor was 110-120 European plug so it was pre-1960, and the person that had originally owned it told me it was motorized during the War (WWII) and she had bought it in 1944 after the liberation of Paris when she was in Fashion School that is now called Esmod. I brought my machine from the states a year later and just got it tuned up so it's waiting for my projects all set up and patiently waiting for me to get off KZhead....

  • I learnt to sew on a treadle sewing machine, making curtains for my Mum when we moved house (1968) I was in my mid teens. The bobbin shuttle is very similar to the wooden ones they used in the cotton industry in the C19th . Well done Angelina for restoring this piece of history.

  • I learnt to sew on an old singer machine with the shuttle bobbin in the 1960’s. They are great machines but I wouldn’t swop it for my all singing, all dancing machine I have now. You’ve made a lovely job of the bunting and thanks for the tip of the coat hanger holding the tape 👍 I’m wondering if it would work for holding bias binding tape if you’ve got a lot of binding to do 🤔 definitely something to remember for the future

  • That sewing machine is awesome. So nice you brought it back to life. I can't sew at all. No patience and had bad time in junior high home economics class trying to sew stuff. I can knit and crochet but not sew. What are you doing with all that bunting. Decoration for the pub?? Saw Rick today helping at Billy's convent. Hard worker. Enjoy your week. Hugs to Lightning 😘

  • Hi, Angelina. Not sure if that machine is the same, but on mine, you can hold the outside of the wheel on the right, and twist the center circle and it disengages the foot, so it doesn't go up and down while filling the bobbin. Then after, tighten the center circle to re-engage it. Worth a try. :)

  • Love the bunting! I'm going to take a stab at fixing your shuttle bobbin issue. At time stamp 11:25 I get a close up of the threading ... Coming from the spool of thread I see a tension disc thingy and the curly guide thingy , technical terms I'm sure that exist..lol....Now does the tension disk thingy sit on a screw ??....If you tighten or loosen that screw does it not move the disks more to the right...What I see at that time stamp is that the disk that the thread feeds through is perfectly lined up with where the thread is currently stopping on your shuttle bobbin...short of it's goal....so in my thinking the disk up top needs to be moved a tad to the right...if it sits on a screw...and that I cannot tell from the video....moving it to the right lining up to where you want it to stop will fix the issue....I hope that makes sense cause that's the best I've got...lol

  • All machines are by the serial number. My singer was 184 sold in the continental united states in 1784. My other is a 1910 Montgomery . The scissors are called pinking shears.

    @machellep1@machellep1 Жыл бұрын
  • To wind bobbins with equal thread distribution, try to screw the screw holding the little tension discs in about a half turn at a time and see if that will correct uneven winding. I suspect its just a matter of that screws relative location (right to left) above the bobbin.

    @sigmacinnamon4506@sigmacinnamon4506 Жыл бұрын
  • The knob in the center of the wheel on your right needs to be unscrewed to stop the needle from going up and down when you are threading a bobbin 🧵 - Then tighten it up again.

  • Hi guys!! I know it is way past the fact...... But it you want even spacing between the bunting "flags" if you put a piece of masking tape on your sewing table as an time to add another flag.... when the end of the flag that was just sewn reaches it... stop and add the next flag.

  • The machine is lovely, and works so well. It is foot powered and not electric needed. I remember my mother having the "pinking Sheers" too, Now I wonder where they went! She lived to be 98. So as old has your machine!

    @liesavillandre3481@liesavillandre3481 Жыл бұрын
  • It's probably not supposed to go all the way to the end so it can fit in the shuttle right. I saw the one where you oiled the machine. I've been sewing for 60 years and was always told to not use 3 in 1 oil or the grease you used but to use special sewing machine oil and lubricant. Singer makes them both and are reasonably priced. I was told the others are to thick and oily and will gum up the machine.
