How close the new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series actually is to motorsport has now been impressively demonstrated by GT3 racer Maro Engel on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring. With an officially measured and notarized certified time of 6.43.616 min for the 20.6 kilometer-long track, measured without the straight at track section T13, and 6.48.047 min for the 20.832 kilometer-long total track, measured with the straight at track section T13, the new V8 meteor is placed in the top group of the street-legal “sports cars” category and number one among the fully standard, unmodified models.
“It’s really impressive how much downforce the Black Series generates and how confident and reliable it can be driven, even at the absolute limit. My hat is off to the developers from Affalterbach for what they have put on wheels here. And I’m very pleased that I was able to demonstrate these fascinating engineering skills with this great lap time,” said Engel.

Hi Misha:)
These were not perfect conditions right?
How is it possible? You're always ahead with your comments! :-D
@@jeppepedersen2363 no way this time of year.
@@jeppepedersen2363 far from perfect.
The fact this was done on a clearly damp track is even more astounding absolutely fantastic job
That may be rubber left from endurance races
@@michaelmcdonald9847 No, watch Shmee's video on this, it's definitely damp, and you can also see that by looking at the sky
I believe that this wasn't very damp. The sky shows no traces of clouds nor rain, and what looks to be wet pavement may just be the remaining sunlight reflecting off the rubber that has been laid down on the racing line over time.
John Cary i mean look at the first 26 seconds there’s clear puddles of water on the left side of the track it clearly isn’t the best conditions that’s for sure
@@hooligan1017 But the thing that confused me is that these supposed puddles were on uphill sections of track or places you would not expect gravity to take the remaining water and place it. I hardly saw any water in the lowest parts of the track, yet I saw the damp spots in uphill/higher elevation track. So again I assume that most of these corners were dry due to the number of times the AMG ran the track as well as earlier cars in the day.
I can't believe I'm going to say this, it actually looks like it can go faster - the car is so incredibly composed - wow.
IT was partially wet track . So it can go faster.
Indeed it can, damp track with asphalt temps of 10degrees and outside air only 7degrees, for sure in summer conditions this will go faster

@@lennard5173 maybe talking about grip and corner speed? This wet track compaired to a dry track at 20degrees

This is AMG.. not quite merc! :) If you know what AMG is... then don't congratulate only the original manufacturer!
They are AMG, a German company, the F1 team is an English company, different teams both work for MB now.

Best doesn’t always mean the fastest, necessarily. I mean listen to how this thing sounds, awful...This is the best Mercedes has to offer in that department? Haha
This is a fast car, not a good car
@@mikemoggerson6651 Sounds fine for a twin turbo charged v8. Sound is not going to be amazing, that's the reality of all modern cars today. You can thank the EU regulations for that. Prior to this, AMG made some of the best sounding engines. Hell, even now they do when compared to their rival's twin turbo v8s.
Considering how much faster the 488 Pista was compared to the 911 GT2 on other tracks, I don't doubt that if Ferrari actually cared, they could break this record easily. They just don't care because they understand that a car faster on track doesn't mean it's a better car, because it's a ROAD car at the end of the day.
@@derbigpr500 Last time I checked, Ferrari always cared the most about the press. That's why they don't do official lap times anymore unless they're allowed to provide a car with a whole set of engineers.
I don't think enough credit is given to tire technology advancements in the last decade. This guy just matched the time set by a Pagani Zonda R on SLICKS. That doesn't even make sense to me. Zonda is lighter, mid engined with a track setup, more aggressive downforce, AMG tuned V12 with more power, and again... slicks. Brilliant car no doubt, I'm just blown away by the grip cars attacking the ring lately are managing. No drama. I wonder when we'll see the first road legal car break into the 5 minute range...
I don't know how much of it has to do with it, but I think tire compounds are a major contributing factor. I have no proof for this so this is pure speculation, but if I had to guess modern semi slicks with modern compounds have better grip than what slicks used to have. Simply because of better compound.
And that track is WET, wet as a wap
5 minutes on street legal car....never.
@@TheJube97 That us the point... It helped keep the temperature on tire low so he could keep pushing... If the road was hot the tire would blow... It's a street tire anyway

This car seems to have another 3 to 5 sec to gain in optimal condition, the track was so damp, this guy's balls deserve to be cloned. Btw, Mercedes broke 2 record in day
3 to 5 seconds? Do you realize how much faster the car would have to go just to knock another second off, let alone 3 to 5.
Lol. You are a real bench racer aren't you? That track might have been damp, but it was almost nothing. I've driven that track several times on Cup 2 R tyres, and as much as they hate the wet, that track boils them and a cool or ever so slightly damp surface can be good in order to keep them cool. And as was suggested, hat amount of rubber in the track is what is left after a race there, and it adds grip too. Lastly, that cool day also adds more power to that engine than you might think. Run a nice day with little humidity, high barometric pressure and a warm surface, and you are looking at a very different scenario. Those conditions may not have been perfect, but they were damn close.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't the regular 911 GT2 RS do a 6:47 compared to the AMGs 6:48 here? I'm confused. Or was the 6:47 of the regular GT2 RS also on the 20.6 instead of the 20.832 km long track? EDIT: nevermind, the regular GT2 RS did the 6:47 on the 20.6km long track, so the AMG is 4 seconds faster, while also being under sub-optimal conditions. Crazy stuff.

Still, they count the shorter/wrong time too... They problem is, the record times of the past are all wrong! But for comparing reasons they timed the old version too. But for the future, they should only time the true complete 20,82km lap!
@@einautofan6685 I think it has to do with rules, but i'm not sure. All other previous lap records, be it the 6:57 of the 918 Spyder, the 6:44 of the Aventador SVJ or the 9:40 of the GT2 RS MR were done on the 20.6km long version (with section 13 or whatever is its name) missing. THAT SOUNDS IS JUST
Still think this is one of the most incredible laps. Seen many cars go after it, but the fact this was done on a clearly damp track, in cold temps not optimal at all for the Cup 2 R’s is astounding. On a nice summer day bone dry track there’s easily, 5 to 8 seconds there on the table. Maybe more. They owe it to the engineers who made it to do a dry run.
Good comment, but the slightly damp (good example of track condition in this video) keeps the tires cool, as the friction of tires on dry road makes tires get very hot, which reduces traction in the last 42% of this track. Driving in this condition yield better lap time result than full dry, by very small margin.
