    • They've been good friends for decades - literally. They did this because of the money involved of, who is better - Buakaw obv. is but Saenchai is more liked by the public. It is good to see, but not surprising - as the end video briefly shows Buakaw went to the hospital to see Saenchai immediately after the fight.

    • Saenchai's style relies on his timing and speed, and as over 45 guy, those go way faster than you'd like. Buakaw is tremendously technical, but his style doesn't need the speed and reaction time Saenchai's does. My hypothesis anyway.

  • I think a lot of people are missing the reason why Buakaw overwhelmed Saenchai. Saenchai isn't used to people walking through his offense like that, and Buakaw took the fight where he was strongest with strategy and skill. They're both elite fighters, and while strength obviously does matter, that's not even the main factor here. In Jiu-jitsu, I'm able to give some of the higher belts problems because they're unfamiliar with some of the catch wrestling techniques I use, and my guard is really hard to pass. Other people are able to exploit my game by taking me where I'm not comfortable, even though I've trained longer than them. Personal style is a bigger factor than many realize. Everyone's got weaknesses, and even if you're incredibly well rounded, they can and will be exploited.

    @willwailes9298@willwailes92984 ай бұрын
    • I think I understand what you are trying to say. If someone doesn't have that direct experience, though, this concept is hard to believe as it goes against what people are taught in the sense that x skills are greater than x-1 skills (replace skills with whatever grade/measurement you want). What you are saying is that x skills isn't always greater than x-1 skills, there are many other parameters in play which haven't been measured yet.

      @prashugrashu@prashugrashu4 ай бұрын
    • @someguywholivesandbreathes4755 Not exactly. People with the exact same skill level can have different strengths and weaknesses. Someone less skilled than you can have strengths that exploit your weaknesses. Even that might be an oversimplification. Relationships differ from person to person. MMA has a lot of that. Israel Adesanya was a tough opponent for Alex Perreira, Perriera destroyed Sean Strickland easily, and Strickland destroyed Adesanya. All 3 are elite level athletes, but their styles are different, and their relationships with one another are drastically different.

      @willwailes9298@willwailes92984 ай бұрын
    • @someguywholivesandbreathes4755 Different martial arts is a more extreme version of the same thing. A TKD guy is going to want to fight in kicking range, and a boxer is going to want to fight in punching range. If the TKD guy keeps him in kicking range, the boxer has lost his primary weapons. If the boxer keeps the TKD guy in punching range, the TKD guy has lost his primary weapons. Saenchai is well rounded, but a lot of his attacks are from that kicking range. Buakaw moved forward while defending Saenchai's attacks, and took Saenchai where he wasn't comfortable. Saenchai tried to adjust, but Buakaw just ate the shots and continued walking him down.

What gets me is that that thin veneer drops when someone gives him the slightest bit of cheek in return. If/when he is no longer the greatest in the world, that pettiness will hopefully disappear too. • The latest sparring match was almost all fun. Almost not serious. The one when they were younger was alittle more serious but still fun.. They are the goats in their own way. Even in the match they held back. You think Buakaw was unable knock him Seanchai bare knuckle? They held back a little out of respect. Buakaw always edged it my opinion.

  • Great vid about their friendship. To me, it defeats the purpose of "finding out" who is "greater" at this level of Muay Thai. It's anaemic, immature and "shallow" to say either is 'better' than the other. These are both Muay Thai legends and they are also good friends. There's no way either will fight all out in any competition. To have them spar with one another for a good look at all aspects of Muay Thai is already a treat in itself. Deep deep respect to both of them. 🤘💪💪💪💥🙏🙏🙏

  • Both are GOATs. From years of friendship they knew each others styles very well. Buakaw had the edge in physicality and age plus Buakaw's familiarity with Saenchai's tricks plays in his favor as well. Saenchai was very game and full of heart to take these disadvantages and still produce a treat to all watchers. Big heart to both fighters.

  • Epic video, thank you LK ! Obviously impossible to choose a side in this case, they are both incredible fighters with each their way to express their mastery. Glad they won't fight each other again though, I prefer watching them having fun together, and I think Buakaw was a going a little too hard on Saenchai. Cheers

    • @@bunmeng007 I don't think it was that competitive of a fight when both are over 40 years old and both have achieved incredible careers. I expected a kind of rough sparring, but I was definitely surprised when Buakaw landed the headkick. He even apologized for it. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed watching them fight, but as I said they are friends and they are fighters, you never know when the fighter instinct is going to kick in, and what is going to happen when it does. Fighting each other was good, having fun together for years to come is better. My 2 cents anyway, totally subjective and you can disagree no problem.

  • With my classic muay Thai style. The knee comes through the heel. The toes stand through the fist. The middle arch of the foot is counter to the hips and waist. Inside foot is hips. Outside foot is waist. Not ready for real sparring until achieving inside outside footwork is fast enough for running.

  • I love buakaw, I always prefered watching him fight compared to Saenchai. But pound for pound, Saenchai is the more technical fighter, and i think he gave him that win. Buakaw has the power though, combined his poise and conditioning, you can't spar agsinst that with just technique at a weight disadvantage. The power will rock your balance. Saenchai was very generous and gracious with his words and to even take the fight. Just my 2c

  • I don't know much about muay thai, but as far as I hear, Saenchai is considered far more decorated, fighting up in weight just to find competition, etc. Whereas Buakaw is a kickboxing legend and star from what he did in K-1, and perhaps more famous globally for the exposure that granted him.

  • It's just so great that they're friends and brought Muay Thai to the world together - especially Buakow in the prime of K1. They literally play footie, go to the gym and saunas together. They're just great dudes who've paid their dues (and then some) and deserve to enjoy their respective legacies and each other

  • The Buakaw-Saenchai fight seemed, to me at least, to have geared the rules toward a more direct and over-all less technical fighting style, which Buakaw seems to favor: by taking out the possibility of a longer-clinch and sweeping, I think they gave a little less advantage to Saenchai (He's a technical wizard, and loves using his brain much more than his brawn)
