THE STORY OF PEPSI & PEPSICO - Here’s the truth Pepsi don’t want you to know: Pepsi started off as a rip off of Coca-Cola. And Pepsi Cola even tried to sell their company to Coca-Cola on three separate occasions. But Coke kept turning them down. As a result, Pepsi struggled and literally went bankrupt on two separate occasions. And yet, fast forward to present day - and PepsiCo makes around $80 billion dollars of revenue a year - more than double the Coca Cola company. You see, Pepsi is no longer just a drinks business - they are a gigantic empire that owns more food and beverage products than you can even imagine. Lays. Gatorade. Cheetos. Aquafina. Tropicana. Quaker Oats. Mountain Dew. Doritos. The brands PepsiCo owns are endless. In fact at one point Pepsi even started buying giant fast food chains like KFC and Pizza Hut. They were even negotiating a deal to buy a huge fleet of Navy warships! So, how did all of this happen? How did Pepsi go from bankruptcy to global domination? From humble beginnings to controversial conglomerate with blood on its hands? Welcome to the insane history of Pepsi.
In this business documentary we’ll cover the history of Pepsi, including:
🔵Pepsi’s disastrous marketing campaign ‘Number Fever’ that had deadly consequences.
🔵Pepsi’s unusual relationship with the USSR - and why Pepsi got paid in Russian vodka
🔵How a small business grew into the giant conglomerate, Pepsico, that owns so many brands.
🔵Pepsi’s successes and Pepsi’s failures - including several controversial ads
🔵The time Pepsi got sued over a harrier jet because of a misleading ad
🔵The Cola wars, and the ongoing Coca-Cola vs Pepsi brand battle.
🔵Plus so much more about the INSANE story of Pepsi!

  • the biggest danger is that with a brand as big as this, starting a boycott is impossible. it's not just a single item, it's pretty much everyday snacks and drinks for people in America. I specifically remember a boycott trying to be sparked a while ago because of the way frito lays treats their employees, and the list of brands was so big that it didn't go very far.

  • It’s always seems like most of these major brand name companies started out as more or less innocent enterprises with decent founders with simple ambitions. But upon their original founders passing and the subsequent acquisition of them by new owners with deep pockets and less than noble intentions always end up morphing into gargantuan and monstrous entities recking havoc upon the globe.

  • The truth is, when you check the biggest share holders of Cola and Pepsi, you see the same companies own the two... So in the surface there seems to be a cola war, but underneath, same people own them. They play as if there is a war, because consumers like to think that there is a competition/war and it sells better. It would not be interesting, if there would be only one cola company...

    • Did you say Philip Morris? oh. no. You didn't. 400million in "we kill our customers" payout looks huge until you read the SEC filings and realize because of the conglomerate nature of the company (PM) their profits are around 8 Billion a year. That was in 2001 when I was taking Intro to Business, where we had to read the SEC filings (freely available) and compare "our" chosen company to the other class member teams. PM owns Miller Brewing company, Kraft Foods and Shell Oil. At least they did in 2001. You are absolutely correct when you say that marketing does not come close to reality. It is ALL about perception and has nothing to do with reality. Others have commented that picketing one brand will not hurt the conglomerate. They are absolutely correct.

I believe there is a very important lesson to be remembered here about how Pepsi broke into the Russian market , which is "if money is at the core of the problem , then take it out of the equation". Maybe this idea could be applied to some extent in regards to the financial issues looming over the USA. After all , barter cuts out the middle man , bureaucracy , and their abusive powers.

    • You’re correct, the logo he used in the video is wrong. It is not the energy drink rockstar, but rather the game studio owned by Take Two. Good job of spotting that mistake. However, it’s not the only one in this video. The number of errors are astounding for a channel that pulls in millions of views.

    • @@wolfcola8797 Well yah, but Pepsi is a (slightly) different case as there was never a goal (given that the original founder died before the business was even established) other than money. It's purely only to make money and is a product of investors, not of a founder/envisionment as opposed to some other companies. Pepsi is quite literally soulless.

    • @@wolfcola8797 Not saying other companies are heaven-sent/gods gift... I'm just pointing out why PepsiCo may seem more money hungry than other companies. Usually businesses have a goal in mind/have a reason for being a business. Apple wants to make reliable tech, and they always stick with their own industry. Walmart/Amazon does stuff relating to the consumer. Pepsi has no goal/reason and is simply going for numbers/profits. Regularly buying up companies that have no correlation to the food industry. it was just investors reviving an already dead company. This is 100% my opinion though, i wouldn't say its 100% accurate as I'm basing my opinion off of this one video.

For more than 25 years now it does not taste the same. I was informed that the change was switching from sugar cane to corn syrup. I rarely drink it now. Coke or 7up is my preference now.
