I really like when players fight to the end of the game. Axelsen has had many situations in which he stopped the fight in recent matches. This game shows the new Viktor Axelsen, who improved his endurance and strengthened his mental strength. I hope he will win this tournament.

What an amazing match, and I think the umpire nailed the call in the penultimate point. We're talking about millimeters here, but it hadn't passed the net. Great call.
If the shuttle passed the net and LZJ over-swung with his racket-head passing the net on the follow through, would his shot be disqualified?

I'll congratulate the umpire on that final net call as well. We destroy these umpires when they call it wrong on that shot, so I have to say something when they do get it right. And it was a very very tough call. If I hadn't seen the replay, I'd probably be on LZJ's side, since it was a stunningly open shot. Only problem was it floated on Axelson's side far longer than anticipated with the shuttle facing away and LZJ was already in the air so he couldn't afford to wait without ruining his swing...
Indeed so hard call. The ball was in the middle of the net upon racket impact. Like if you pause it and take a ruler, it really is in the middle. If he didnt hit it, it would have landed on the net and may or may not cross to his side. But sticking to the rule where it says you can only hit the bird once it crosses your side of the court, the call is right. The rule didnt say halfway through the court is permissible.

You guys can watch it in slow-mo, Lee really cross over the net. Despite, Lee ZJ has very high potential in badminton field , surely he can be superstar sooner or later.
Doesn't matter when the racket cross the net bro. If you know badminton, most importantly is when the racket contact with the shuttle, whether the contact point is over the net or not.

Lovely match btw the 2. Axelson has long reach thus having a better defense and he uses his h8 for producing extra steep smashes which r got from net exchanges. On the other hand, LZJ is a young strong stud which is more psychically chllg than Axelson.
He has all the tools. As long as he has that stubborn attitude, he is hard to beat LZJ. Next world champion!

LZJ applied the wrong tactics towards the closure of the final set.Should have attacked instead of playing defensive hoping Axelsen make mistakes.
i really like the arena in Birmingham it got almost no drift unlike the arena in jakarta. the players can really play their best.
