I own several Fireball squares and they are top notch, totally worth the price, but I still do my work on a 40 year old fixture table I bought at an auction 15 years ago. • Wow Viny that is awesome! You have me sold and I want to do 12mm table version however I wonder if you could increase your hole tolerance by 1000 percent simply by under sizing the holes to use a reamer for final dimension and also one could use precision ground bar stock (say any size like 16mm, 25mm etc.) or machine dowels for your tooling pegs? I know it is a lot more work during the assembly, reaming all those holes. But I think it would be worth it and your table may end up being 99.95% perfect!! The cost of a good reamer and a few feet of precision ground bar stock or ground dowels is a small price to pay for the increase accuracy. Please let me know if that is something you would incorporate into that plans before I purchase a set. Cheers Joe

    @joeg7755@joeg77552 ай бұрын
    • Yes, you could reduce the hole size and reamed them. But don't forget, typically, for welded structures, we don,t need to be ±0.1mm and by using the adjustable fences, at the end of the day, it's still your mesuring tape en skill that will set the distance between 2 fences 🤷‍♂️. So I'll be curious to know how long it would take you to reamed these 3.5 billion holes! 😅Let me know! 😁

      @VinyB57@VinyB572 ай бұрын
    • @@VinyB57 Interesting reply. True about typical welded structures. But I think it would elevate your table to a higher standard with a slight investment in time and little more money. Most likely just behind Fireball's table. Well kind of close LOL. Now, if I have machined surfaced fixed standard jigs and using known shims I can achieve my measurement without spending time measuring and adjusting. Accurate and repeatable setups as needed, is that not the end game that we want to achieve? Besides, I don't mind spending months with a mag drill and reamer to make holes LOL. Regardless, what you have introduced here for us mortal viewers is an excellent tool that is a million times better that what I have now. I will be building one of your tables for sure.

  • There are pins designed for holding your accessories tight both sideways and vertically to the table. They are not that expensive if you consider the cost of steel, spent time, functionality and visual quality differences. Also if you would chamfer hole edges, the pins go in smoother and if used with said mounting pins, the balls wont take damage as if they would when meeting a straight edge.

    @PoniatBtw@PoniatBtwАй бұрын
    • Are you talking about the pins with orings or the locking one with 3 ball bearing, cause I have 24 pins and a pack of 12 is 350$ CAD for the ball bearing ones....it adds to the cost, but it could be a good solution too!

      @VinyB57@VinyB57Ай бұрын
    • @@VinyB57 I got myself some which got both orings and ball bearings. I paid around 200$ CAD for a 10 pack for 28mm system. It obviously adds to the cost but they actually hold tight by themselves. Maybe not necessary for a DIY'er but i would recommend trying them out anyway.

  • Get two more steel plates (or cast iron, etc) and some diamond lapping paste; and lap it in using the three-plate method; the same way you'd make a surface plate from scratch. Using some high-torque, low-speed gear motors to move the plates back and forth makes this process much less tedious. Then you'll have the flattest welding table in your entire town... perhaps country.

Certiflat also has one sided tops such as the one here and the five sided tops we usually see. So you can choose from any of those going from 3/16” to 1/2” thick. At one time they made a 5/8” thick top, but I haven’t checked to see if they still do.
