  • I just did the ccv job yesterday. It is possible to get the CCV out from under the manifold without removing the oil filter housing. In around the space where the feed line to the power steering is, the gap is just big enough to route the CCV under, and out. Just thought i'd leave this here :)

  • Really good videos, excellent work. Some nice tips too. When putting the new oil filter in you should pour some oil in the housing to lube the dry filter and that will stop it being twisted when you tighten it up.

  • I enjoy all of your BMW series, great content, and I've learned a lot. Keep up the good work!

  • Holy moly! So bmw knows the CCV system has a crucial maintenance function and is a known oil consumption cause.... Remove fan belt Remove alternator Remove oil filter Remover oilfilter housing Remove throttle body Remove spider legs of formed pipes that connect ccv unit all over the place... Then reverse.... Oh and change the oil & filter. I wish you were in the LA area. My daughter's 2001 530i needs this...🙄

    • Quite a terrible design to be honest it could be much easier had they put some thought in to it i am doing this job as i type this and its just annoying how much unused there is in the 520-530i’s but bmw decide to cramp everything together still

    • The worst part is the passage that goes back into the dipstick tube is so tiny, you cant even fit pipe cleaners inside. I had to clean it by forcing large zip ties into it when I did mine last year. I bet it's already clogged again.

  • You missed an opportunity to replace the coolant hoses that run under the intake manifold by not removing it when replacing the ccv. They are know to leak and it’s one of those while I’m in there kind of deals. Keep up the good work enjoying the e39 series since I have 2 tourings .

    • Thanks for watching! It's true, you could go completely Ship of Theseus on any BMW over 5 years old. Luckily most everything is in great shape on this one including those pipes 👍

      @PracticalEnthusiast@PracticalEnthusiast2 жыл бұрын
    • @@PracticalEnthusiast These pipes looked fine on my 2002 520i but crumbled when I tried removing them. Considering how deep in there they are I figured it was worth changing and I didn't regret it! I used my pilot bearing puller to get the rest of the plastic tube out of of the block.

    • Yep, I just had mine sprung a leak. At least is easier on the earlier e39, with the M52.

    • I was thinking the same as my 530i just sprung a leak after changing the radiator and reservoir! Oh well here I go again this time the CCV AND ALL the coolant hoses are going to be changed.

  • Excellent as I'm about to tear down the front in order to do the same. That said, have you changed your front crank seal since you were in there or perhaps you've done it already. My is leaking pretty bad so I'll be replacing it as well. I'll look at the oil pressure tubes and if nothing else, blow them out since I didn't order them before catching your video.

  • Love your videos! Tip with the oil dipstick tube, did you clean it out? It's known for the milkshake from ccv to block it up! Some wire, acetone and air line are great tools for clearing it!

    @conwaystedham444@conwaystedham4442 жыл бұрын
    • Thanks! Yep, I cleaned it out but it wasn't blocked thankfully.

  • Hey man good video i plan on doing this to my 2004 530i m54b30 engine. So it is possible to have access to all of the ccv while changing the oil filter housing gasket without removing the intake? Sorry for the questions man I just also wanted to ask if the removal of the fan is necessary in order to do these 2 jobs? Appreciate you man if you can reply to this.

  • My engine bay is like black w years worth of oils leaks in it. I wish I could get it as clean as this. I bought degreaser and cleaned a bit but it’ll never look this good unless I power wash my engine bay.

  • Hi there new subscriber here… quick question, is there a reason why you are using the green version of the liqui moly engine oil?

    @cmaximus7627@cmaximus76272 ай бұрын
    • The green tint acts as a dye to help identify leaks. It also just looks cool. And it was a few $ less than the other liqui moly synthetics. It was a win-win from my perspective.

      @PracticalEnthusiast@PracticalEnthusiast2 ай бұрын
    • Ah yeah! Great idea… I thought it was a different formula than the regular blue one. I Will definitely use it on my next oil change, thanks for responding!
