Michael Jordan FAMOUS FLU Game, Game 5 Highlights vs Jazz 1997 Finals - 38 Pts, EPIC CLUTCH SHOT

2020 ж. 11 Нау.
223 860 Рет қаралды

The image of Scottie Pippen holding up a physically drained Michael Jordan is unforgettable, no matter how many times you’ve seen it.
It represents June 11, 1997 - Game 5 of the NBA Finals between the Chicago Bulls and Utah Jazz, known as the “Flu Game” - when Jordan summoned something within him that the league had never seen.
“The big story here tonight - the story concerning Michael Jordan’s physical condition,” said play-by-play commentator Marv Albert on the broadcast that night before the game. “This is Jordan arriving two hours ago. He is suffering from flulike symptoms.”

  • This game by itself proves why Michael Jordan is the GOAT. Stepping up and dropping 38 points in a crucial game while practically passing out every other moment on the sideline is the type of stuff only the greatest can do.

People don't realize how sick Mike was. He was sitting in the dark all night not able to sleep, and whenever the lights went on he would vomit. He had diarhea, cold chills, was sweating all over the place to the point that he had to change his clothes every 20 minutes they said, and pain all over his body, so some thought it was the flu because of some of those symptoms. It was a horrible case of food poisoning, and he likely felt worse than a lot of flu's. Bron wouldn't have made it, but not many players would have, Kobe maybe. MJ could have been on his death bed or close to it, and he still would have tried to make it out there.

I've now taken it personally... you just gave me a motivation to win the game." Larry's "kill you" mentality, Kobe's "mamba" mentality, and Jordan's "I've taken it personal" mentality are almost the same, but this one is the most iconic moment in a championship series.

    • Such a huge variation in terms of how sick someone gets from COVID. Sot it really depends on a lot of factors, because it's so different for everyone. Some get so sick they are dying, and some barely know they have anything. I think MJ would be playing as long as he wasn't hospitalized, and he's an athlete so he more than likely wouldn't have been as sick as some other people because of his good health. Playing this game with food poisoning is one of MJ's best performances ever in my opinion. Food poisoning also has a big variation in terms of how bad it is, but it has the potential to be absolutely brutal with major suffering, and in some cases can cause death.

  • This style of NBA was so much better, IMO. I like watching sports where scoring is the exception, not the rule. Scoring points in any sport should be difficult to earn and should feel like an accomplishment once they are earned. In today's NBA, scoring is too cheap and easy. There is no physicality. No rim protection. No hand checking. No "bumping" on screens and cuts. It's just boring. I dont understand why any sport would create rules that make scoring easy. It doesn't make sense.

  • I’m from Utah, strike one is poisoning Jordan with that pizza the night before this game. Strike two is “the shot” in game 6 in 1998. Strike 3 is Kobe retiring and dropping 60 points for an outright win. I love MJ AND KOBE MORE THAN ILL EVER LOVE UTAH. If I never see the jazz win a championship I won’t be surprised. This place is cursed! FUCK UTAH!
