Spooky Abandoned House, Creepy Deep Open Well, and Skeleton Bridge! Jeep Gladiator VS Rough Edge
Join me on a solo adventure into the heart of history with my 2021 Jeep Gladiator Mojave as I traverse Rough Edge's haunting landscapes. In this episode of Adventures into History, we'll revisit some eerily fascinating sites that are as historically significant as they are spine-chilling.
First up, we pay our respects at the graves of local legends - Col Blackmon, Doctor Brewster, and Captain Reedy. Each site tells a unique story of the past, etched into the timeless whispers of the woods.
Our journey takes us further to explore the crumbling remains of Captain Reedy's homeplace. What secrets do these ruins hold? The decayed walls and silent echoes provide a haunting backdrop to tales of yesteryears.
Not far down the road, we encounter a creepy old house. Viewed from the safety of the road, its abandoned facade and the mysteries within call out to the curious and the brave.
Finally, our path leads us to the skeleton of an abandoned metal bridge - a relic unable to be crossed but rich with the lore of what once was.
Strap in for a ride that's part Jeep test drive, part historical exploration, all thrilling. Discover how the rugged capabilities of the Gladiator Mojave handle the challenge of Rough Edge's varied terrains while unveiling the mysteries of the past.

I love all of your videos. I am learning so much about the south, I never knew. You new ride is awesome! I like these type of roads! The least traveled. Look at those old roads. Wow so many of them.
Could that be a Cherokee or Creek Longhouse? 🏹
@@bethbartlett5692 no not old enough
13:41 awesome detail, Robert, as we're taken back in time. Can only imagine!
Yikes!!!🙈🙈🙉
I agree with you that old roads and "alignments" are an important part of our history, no matter where in the world.
Thank you for taking me away from the boring hotel front desk that I am sitting at at 0300 a.m. Now I have to go back to work. Thank you!!
Imagine you’re lost out there, wander into that cemetery and find that epitaph…good Lord! 😆
Right 😂
The creepier and spookier the better - great show
Thanks!
And Robert leaned over the spooky old bridge railing and fell into the river below. The wisteria took note of where he landed and slowly made its way to him to wrap its protective arms around him and never let him go. (lol - sorry Robert, just had to) This was a neat adventure.
😂😂😂😂
This really made me laugh… but I think the wisteria would push me in 😂
@@AdventuresIntoHistory One of these episodes maybe a Geologist could join you guys and give us the Geological and Topography details, including the Terrace's Histories, Native and Colonial. There's far more to Georgia's History than the "Mainstream Academics/Archaeologists" are willing to admit, (cause it doesn't fit or support their "19th Century Theory based Paradigm and Linear Timeline" (they use as Fact). That really isn't Scientific. I am confident this is changing, DNA studies are forcing the point. .Thanks!!! .
This was very fascinating!
As a person who reads mysteries. That is a perfect place to get rid of a body. 😅😅😅.
I got poison ivy just by watching this! Great video!!!
Congratulations!! Love your new wheels! It fits you to a T! Roughedge challenge not a challenge! Trade crocs for socks. Interesting tour again, Captain Reedy. Nope, no sketchy in that vehicle. Wisteria! Yikes!! Cool old and yes, creepy looking places. Your fav, old bridge!! Wow, what a filming day, don't know how you did it and then edited it. Loved it all!! 👍👍❣️❣️
Hey from Memphis. Thanks for the ride out to Rough Edge. Every day is a school day and this 63 year old student of life appreciate your work Professor Robert.
Thanks for taking us on an Uncle Ken Adventure today .
Robert, Grandpa once said" Don't go on an average by yourself!" Grandpa was a wise man.... But thanks for taking us along. I had fun. Take care.
Grandpa actually would sad, “you better get on out there” - Granpaw wasnt gonna get drug out nowhere
Love your videos and enjoy watching them every time. Bringing out the past history
what a great road trip. The two cemeteries were great, a wonderful resting place. Maybe one day you and Mr Dan can come back and get permission to see the other cemetery.
Honey you can make ANYTHING sound exciting! Seriously!!
That is a very creepy place
Hey Robert, you and Dan and the other Robert do such a great job with the history of Georgia. Every state should have the same curiosity of their states history. Thank you.
I wish somebody would fill in that well
This is the most uplifting view if Rough Edge I've ever seen, up until the end when the sky began to turn dark. Earlier it made me almost want to move there, but the Sidestep Adventures Psychiatrist talked me out of it. Those were some awful wisteria vines wrapped around those two trees almost framing an entrance to that abandoned house! I really enjoyed this Robert, and look forward to seeing you drive that Jeep in some really awful dirt roads. This was very well shot.
I saw in an old video that you saying you are not allergic to poison ivy (and you went through it again in this video) and I cannot get over that. I got the worse case of poison ivy I've ever had from the Mahone cemetery in February and I'm still traumatized by the memory of it! The view from that skeleton bridge was really nice. It seemed like a perfect Georgia day. The new jeep truck is fantastic. Got to get a photo on top of it!
It is very interesting to see the old road..thanks for pointing it out!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm kinda nerdy about this but really good camera work, especially the shot of the jeep coming and going through that deep cut road.
Thank you!
Georgia is so beautiful. Love the road trip. I can just picture folks fishing off of that old bridge. TY Dan
I am super appreciative of the narrative about the road beds! More please !
I love your adventures. Even in frocks! I love Rough Edge too! It’s eeerily beautiful. You can almost hear the voices in the trees….
I have heard you mention Rough Edge many times. Very cool to finally see it. I guess that's what a Red Dirt Road really looks like! Many rural roads, but nothing red like that here in Vermont. Thanks for another adventure Robert.
Arizona has some pretty red dirt too!
That's holy crap bridge. Holy mother i ain't even going near that bridge.
Hi Robert, I always enjoy your adventures and explorations of the past and I am very impressed how respectfully you Talk about the enslaved people, those poor souls. When did the decline of the plantations begin? I am from Europe, some of my ancestors emigrated to the US in the 1850s and 1870s and settled in Ohio. But I know nearly nothing about the real history of the plantations, I think Gone with the Wind isn‘t enough😉.
Robert would you take high powered magnet back to that well and others . Thanks
10:36 wow. What an epitaph.
Great video Robert. I really enjoy going down old dirt/logging roads. I also enjoy old home places and the history about it. Be careful out there by yourself Bub.
Always!
I've heard y'all refer to Rough Edge, but this is the first time I can remember seeing it. THANKS for a great video! 💫
Awesome thanks! I believe there is a rough edge playlist that has more vids here. If not then they’re under the Talbot Co playlist
Is the bridge for the logging trucks? The wisteria vines on the trees by the old house are massive. I agree-creepy!
You’re probably right! Only way in and out for the loggers!
Thank you for a fun off-road sidestep back into the past! Definitely creepy. It's like taking a step back in time. I love that you have so much knowledge, period. Makes the journey that much more fun and interesting. You put a lot of work into filming these videos. It shows! I like how you film the truck traveling at road level. Since you're probably out there by yourself (no secret assistant standing off to the side😁) that means you set it up yourself. Which has to be a lot of work. Thanks for the extras like that!😊
I was thinking the same thing.
Haha definitely solo on this one, so I was running up and down the road to get the camera 😅😂😂
I enjoy seeing the old roads and such. Like the history! Got to grive from n. Idaho to southern Arizona and got to see some of the old wagon trails and that was very cool! Your rough edge roads remind me of the old logging roads we drive in the mountains up here with the wash outs and roads closed due to washouts from storms and fllding from spring runoff.
First thing that stands out is those red dirt roads. Wow! 😉😊
That’s cool the Colonial came from the same county as my Kidd line, Chester and York Counties SC. York and Chester Counties were created in 1785, from District. Cool old history and a great orator to present it.
Just as cool, is the old house, where a family one time lived.a deep well. Pretty woods. Goodness, I hear the cicadas in the background! The brood are already out and it's not even August yet. Cool finding a cemetery!!!
Maybe my overcast skies are contributing to the feeling, but this is the spookiest trip I've been on with you, Robert. That epitaph didn't help much, either, nor did the wisteria slowly choking those trees. And that bridge - terrifying. It's time to put the clutch down, get in gear, and get out of there. Oh, I'm a septugenarian driving a standard transmission vehicle and still loving the control. Thanks for an outstanding adventure. 😊
Man I love your new ride. Maybe you and Dan won't get stuck in the mud now. Just be safe and don't do anything silly in the new jeep. If you're like my kids dad he would take his 4 wheel drive dodge anywhere and got it stuck more than once. He wound up putting a winch on the front and it actually saves them from taking the truck to the bottom of a very steep mountain after they slide off in the mud. They winch that truck back up the mountainside. Enjoy be safe
Great adventure, Robert! Love the new wheels, Will look forward to more adventures!
That bridge is really creepy! The roads were very interesting. Thank you.
When I was young I used to go out and find these old roads and and travel them and check out the cabins minor cabins and stuff like that it was a lot of fun old roads are very interesting thank you for sharing with us
I find abandoned roads incredibly fascinating. Thank you for taking us along.
That was a cool ride!!😁👍🍻 Time for a cold boy ,it's beer thirty.
I just have to say I love when the wisteria is blooming! Its beautiful!
This adventure great.. I learned something cool. Thanks Robert...
Reminds me of those old roads over on the Natchez trace.. If you haven't seen those you should. Those roads are really neat too!
It does!
Got a fright there - thought for a minute that was a small squirrel on your shirt!
Good one 😅 !
I am enjoying the ride on the backroads of Georgia.
Thanks!
Thanks for the trip through Rough Edge !
Thank you!
I love seeing all this right in my backyard! I'm from talbot county and I love the rural-Ness of it all.
That last bridge looks like a great fishing spot! The old road makes me think of the Natchez Trace, at least the old part of it.
Enjoyed this CREEPY road trip
Beautiful countryside there, Robert! I love history, too, and I enjoy your videos and the stories you tell us about the people who once lived and worked in that region. Thanks for the glimpses you give us of a time long ago!
22:13 That's definitely a fixer upper with mature landscaping .
😅
That sure sounds like “other Robert “! Welcome back old friend !
Amazing trip! Would love to learn more about the abandoned home and the cemetery of course! Hugs from Texas!
I’m always learning something new from you
Creepy for sure thanks Robert! Love and Light
Thank you!
Here in SE NC. I hear ya on the heat and sun!
Thank you very much for this great video. I hike in Chatham County NC looking for history in the woods myself. I love finding old homesteads and cemeteries and I'm getting pretty good at finding them. I wondered why certain old roads where deep too, now I know. Although nothing compared to the one your on, that's incredible. And you're so right about wisteria, it kills and hides everything. I love your stories, you and your buddies do an excellent job. Thanks again........
Amazing graveyard ,video, history and cemetery
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice trip. So many interesting sites to see. Thank you. Blessings from Michigan.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Absolutely amazing! Thanks! Have a great day
After todays storms you eon’t b going back there for awhile!!! Good tour- thx Robert
Awesome video Robert. Looks like a great place to explore. We like the new Jeep. Thank you very much for taking us along on another fun adventure. Take care and stay safe. Best wishes from north central Texas. 🤠🙋🐾🌻
It is so spook and creepy beautiful thanks for taking us along and i love your videos
I took my jeep out to see an old cemetery in Northern Florida this morning. Always great to go out for an adventure. 😁
For sure!
The sound of silence...hearing the birdsong, sounded like a paid attraction at some aviary.
Nice wheels! What an interesting video! I love history. The old roads are so cool!
Love your camera angles. Super cool drive
That old house is pretty out there in the forest.
Very interesting, Robert. Thanks for sharing. Kate from OZ.
That was a lot of fun -- old road beds and all. :)
That was fun! Thanks for taking us along!
@17:25: looks like the road to my house as a kid. The part to that point looks like what I grew up traveling to go out to the county road. Our school bus handled those roads pretty well.
The Polk salad sure is big. Lots of good greens to eat. Pick tops, soak, rinse and cook until it breaks down. Rinse in a colander, rinse pot and put it back on again. I use chicken broth, season to suit your tastes. Salt pepper, fresh wild onions and garlic. Ham hawk, bacon or fat back. Make a 0pan cornbread and suppers ready.
I like mine fried!
@@dixie3086 sounds good, also good in scrambled eggs. Thanks!
Some beautiful land out there.
i KEPT THINKING WHAT IF THIS AND THAT HAPPENED WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE? Good VIDEO
Great video Robert my 157 year old home here in green bay wi I got 5 yeard of tops soil for my above gound gardon three tipe of tomatos peas cucmers poblano peppers hot peppers bell pepers
That old bridge was definitely very creepy and the thought of that old cemetery on down that deserted and completely overgrown road is a bit sad. I wonder when it last had a visitor and what kind of shape its currently in. That old house that you couldnt explore was REALLY creepy!! All that wisteria with its huge, thick vines that look like rope!! Yikes! I have a wisteria vine in my backyard and I piled some hay and limbs over it and burned it this spring. I know it will return because the roots are still in the soil. Anyway, that old house really, really looked spooky. I could never venture into it!😮😮 Thanks for a great video, Robert. My late husband and I had 3 different Jeep Wranglers and they were great fun. Had he lived, we would have had a Gladiator for sure!
Fun!!! Lets Explore! ___________________________ Absolutely an amazing eatly Cemetery, "the work they put into this place." So much shade, stone, concrete.
Well I was watching Paranormal caught on tape and there Robert & Dan appears!!! Congratulations on making the show!!!
Loved the Rough Edge tour, but please get permission to poke around the 2 home sites that are posted. Also, loved the parts about the old road beds. I used to hike LOTS in Great Smokies. There’s 1 hike in which the trail is the old road bed used in the Civil War. It was awesome to hike on it with the awareness that old cannons and other equipment had been dragged over the mountain on the “road.” My boyfriend at the time had an old mountain place in Western NC. On his property, which ran alongside the modern dirt and gravel road, was an older alignment. It was quite narrow and would not have allowed a vehicle or stage coach. Only on horseback, walking, or leading your horse as it pulled a sled could you use the old road to go over the mountain. It always entranced me to walk the old alignment. I could feel the gravity, beauty, and hardships of the people who had traveled the road before. I love your channels! Please give Annie, Luke, and Cat treats and extra pets for me!
I will try! Would love to do a full video on them!
Awesome video Robert!
Great road tripping adventure in a great jeep.
Nice jeep Robert
Nice truck, now you and Dan can really go do some exploring
That’s right
I remember when you first read that, it was creepy.
Love this video! One of my favourite ones you’ve put out lately!
Love your adventures 💕
Couldn't help thinking of Jason Aldean's "Dirt Road Anthem" when I saw this video🎶😊
Those back county roads are what we in Michigan call Seasonal Roads roads the county grades once a year
I find that so interesting that your dirt roads end up deeper and deeper into the ground as the decades go by. That's amazing. Some of our sand roads in the woods actually go back to the 18th century, yet they are still close to the ground level. Also most of the bridges on the sand and dirt roads are wooden. In fact we have a few wooden bridges on paved roads around here too. This is southern NJ, by the way.
I’m liking the jeep. You’re gonna have to give it a bath before you return it LOL. Great video Robert. I just eat that type of history up. I tried to visualize the home sites n the lives they all lived. Before the bull weevils came along it must of been a peaceful place to live. I suppose it seemed a bit creepy n even spooky but I found it serene, so lush n green n I too saw peace. I don’t think I’ll ever fill my bucket list to live in the woods but I sure in enjoy to hear the history of Georgia. ♥️♥️♥️😊👍👍👍🌟
Creepy place for sure. Hope you had your firearm with you! Nice ride along today. Thanks for the video.
Robert- King of Rough Edge!
It really is beautiful countryside, Robert. Thaanku for sharing it.
The state should securely cover that well - for the safety of animals and humans!
It's probably timber or private land. They would say enter at your own risk or maybe stay the heck out.
I was thinking about Pig Boy just before you mentioned him. Definitely looks like a place he'd be!
Stay safe Buddy, nasty weather in Georgia. 🤞 💪
For sure
