Wendell going “Hi” from out the wall is a personal favorite of mine
He came straight out of the cache
@@EyesOfByes It would make sense that L1 Techs was stored in the L1 cache
That's my second favorite meme. My favorite is Max Miller from Tasting History banging together the 2 hard tack biscuits he made.
You know you fucked up, if Wendel says: Hi, what are you doing
He's like that little head that would pop out in the corner of the screen from Mortal Kombat... "TOASTY!!!"
Fun fact: Milan from AMD CPUs was so popular they made it into a real place!
Naples and Rome: aight imma head out
Fun fact, my parents named me after this CPU

It feels like I have not seen Jake host a segment in forever. He is usually busy as a co host trying to keep Linus from breaking things.
I can't wait until his intel tech upgrade. Like Anthony I have a feeling he would know what he would be doing.
Yeah a year or 2 ago Jake was probably the second most regular on screen person after Linus, feel like his role must have changed to be more behind the camera or taking on other work rather than just writer/presenter.
Was actually thinking the same, good to see him hosting another video
@@darryljack6612 i thought they went to his home already and found out his setup was baller at the time since he lives with his family?
@@Skooz that was a different video where linus judged the set ups of 3 employees and the one with the best won a new cpu. Linus now is trying to do a thing where all of his employees get a 5000 dollar set up upgrade sponsored by intel. So far they done, Anthony, Riley, Dennis, Colton, James, and David.
No, I have not been stabbed with a torx bit. Flathead and Philips though, absolutely.

i hate flatheads
I wish torx was more commonplace, that screw type is absolutely rock solid when it comes to torquing it tighter or looser.

Literally stabbed my pinky. Didn't need stitches. Only skin glue. Nerve damaged tho
@@Level1Techs Rip the pinky. Hope it's all well now.
I immediately heard Roberto's "haHAA" sound in my head when he said that.
@@alexanderjenkins No, I don't believe nerve damage heals. I don't think I've had been stabbed with a torx bit, but fun fact: I did had put a 1/4" drill bit most of the way through my hand near the thumb.

In jakes defence. He doesn’t drop things like Linus does lol
Also Jakes the server guru, Linus just comes up with bad server names. ;)
@@SS-eu9dq I think that is exactly the point of OPs comment though :'D Jake never hosts a Video, but does when it is about a CPU that costs 8k -> it would be to expensive for linus to do it because he drops stuff, so they got jake in front of the camera lol.
Looks like amd's server division is making a nice trip through Italy
Similar to how the MacOS Crack Marketing team has made it's rounds through Cali landmarks.
Of google going though the candy isle
legit was watching this and thinking it was today's LTT video, until jake stopped to make the sponsor in the middle and i felt that things were wrong and misaligned in the universe.
4:13 "It's a place" I can confirm, I live there
I'm really disappointed he didn't mention "VM host" as a possible use for it. That thing could probably handle 200-250 VMs, in 2U of space.
Do some VFIO.
We use the same CPUs in gigabyte blade servers (4 1cpu nodes/u2) and it can handle BUNCH of VMS The only issue we ran into is... Availability 128GB ram sticks are basically unobtanium here
@@Angel2kinds Lucky... I'm still dealing with Xeon E5 v3 and v4 hosts where I work.
@@Angel2kinds There are 16 RAM slots. How much do you need? You can get 2TB using 64GB sticks. That would be ~10GB of RAM per VM at 200 VMs. Yeah you'll need more in some situations but plenty will require less as well.

Love the blurring at 1:52

just blur all his fingers too sexy
Jake, you should get in touch with your physician, one of your fingers gets pixelated sometimes, hopefully it's not contagious.
😂😂
I was confused why they did that, was it as a joke since he was giving the camera the middle finger?
That also happens with Japanese people
Never EVER send LTT anything that you want to remain unpeeled. Or me, I'll peel that S in a heartbeat!
@Link Me not gonna click it
Just got a 15 year old tv from my sister in law which still had film.
I wonder what it's like to run the machine that adds peel to things. Most satisfying job in the world, or least?
I'm in the other camp. I tend to leave the film in place until the day I throw the machine out or store it in the attic. So many unpeeled things in my house. And I love how it makes some people uncomfortable having to see it and not being able to just peel it off...
"Have you ever seen blue thermal paste?" Yes .. Kingpin KPX
Also Arctic MX-5
I've scraped dried up cheap Chinese blue paste from a relatively new pc that shouldn't have dried out yet...
Jake: Peels Wendell's peel and proceeds to lift his hardware above his head Wendell:
good job keeping linus away from a desocketed server cpu.
The blue thermal paste is Arctic MX-5 :)
"There's something about holding ten grand in your hand that never gets old" As a violinist... yes. I play it every day and yet it still makes me shit my pants a little bit when I leave it out and look away for a minute.
I love the editing style on this video... It's very friendly
We just put a dual 7742 box in production last week. Its used for MariaDB.
Love this edit!!
Greatings from Milan (Italy)
6:52 I like the way you think Jake, just what I was waiting for👍🏻
Great job Wendell 👏 👍 Can you host these more often, it's good to have the mix of hosts i think.
9:50 "Sign my life away". I never heard that until I moved to Ontario & this is the first I've heard it used by someone outside of Ontario...
1:51 the effect I wish I had every time my dad points at something
That was a lovely intro/mind melt Jake
Give me more please!! This and the starlink video were really interesting!!
Ampere Altra does have a dual processor 128 core(per processor) now, their old dual processor 80 core(per processor) would trade blows with Zen2 Epyc but Zen3 does have a pretty good performance boost over Zen2 so they might still trade blows
Jake: [holds CPU] This CPU costs $8000. Me: So that's why this isn't a Linus episode.
4:39 Yes, KPx High Performance Thermal Compound by Kingpin. Edit: High performance thermal compounds will pump out faster and need maintenance sooner.
1:52: I wouldn't have even noticed Jake's middle finger if it hadn't been pixelated lol. You don't need to censor that lol.
It's just a editor joke to make fun of youtube's silly rules.
@@Decodeish1 Ah okay

Wendell is who Anthony goes to for tech support
well you know what they say LMG is tech support for youtubers and Wendell is tech support for tech support
The new AMD family processor name seems like some fancy place. Like my hometown here in Italy 🤣
Kingpin's KPX thermal paste is blue. It's designed for LN2 overclocking but Jay loves using it for everything
Well done video, Jake is brilliant
"Have you ever seen blue thermal paste?" KPX: Am i a joke to you?

Thanks Wendell!
4:15 "sounds like a fancy place" Literally one of the major European cities lol
I like how we got our semiconductors at a size where if we wanted to up the performance we had to “make it bigger”. Can’t wait for the triangular shaped CPU’s
Ok, the blur at 2 mins is enough for a thumbs up. Bravo.
Love the content. We need more Jake infront of the camera. Such energy and passion is contagious
I would use a server like that for finite element analysis... I currently use a Lenovo X3860 x6, 4 processor 72 core system with 768gb of RAM and a system like the one in your video would likely blow my current system away.
We actually do high performance virtualization with systems like this. The high core counts mean you can run a much larger number of virtual machines and containers before seeing any kind of real contention or performance issues.
@ 4:42 this is most likely KPx High Performance Thermal Compound from kingpin
5:01 one of the many benefits of having a high end audio setup is hearing the cameraman nose burp
5:01 Thanks for not muting the barf xD
The "more on that later" is an unexpected move, I actually prepared myself for a segway :')
You can easily thrash one of these when using it for software devolpment. Testing, and compiling take a lot of resources.
It's nice to see Auteur Jake having fun while hosting a vid
Just two years ago this kind of content would have made it onto the main channel no questions asked (I know this channel didn't exist at that time just hypothetical).
Nah, they didn't really do these short formats back then. They'll have the proper video on the main channel.
I love this new editor
Jake’s “mustache” is pretty hilarious.
Blue thermal paste = Kingpin KPx or Arctic MX-5
@Link Me not gonna click it
So if you buy the Kingpin Thermal Paste, it’s actually blue. Has worked great in my last two builds
KPx is a blue thermal paste made by Kingpin (The guy who holds all the 3D mark highscores where GPU matters) intended for extreme overclocking.
8:16 was a missed opportunity to edit in a follow through that windel set up for you. Lttstore pops up on the desktop is an edit that would have matched the subliminal tone perfectly. No matter how goofy you make the edited graphics, or if you include them at all, lttstore.com famous Segway dialog right after would have hit sooooooo hard. Then finish with typical lttstore product image frame 👌👍 it's ok tho, I know you got me next time on the hilarious Segways.
This was a really fun video
you guys should try obs placebo mode
I'm actually looking to upgrade my current server...eyeballing the new Epyc stuff hard. Looking like the value proposition isn't there vs the Xeon stuff, though. Currently looking at a dual Xeon 2699v4 system for a few grand. Actually QUITE a lot of bang for the buck!
"280w is mindnumbing" I9 10900K at 400w hiding in the corner.
Would be cool if you guys can get your hands on, or show/talk about it, the new IBM quantum computers that they've started commercializing. The next one is supposed to be sent to Japan. After they sent one to Germany.
I'm geninely disappointed you guys never ran Cinebench R20 on it.
R20? That's so last year
They will run it in the LTT video when they are allowed.
It's so fast that you didn't even see them run Cinebench R20
Stabbed my fingers with torx bits on occasion (work related). Not pleasant, but leaves tiny 6-edged bleeding holes, which is nice to look at when the pain subsides.
That blurred out middle finger🤣🤣
Finally a Jake video. Welcome back !
the asmr at the beginning
Is it possible that a new Cutter worked on this Video? I like it :)
Would love to see more special hardware like Quadro RTX or A100 or V100
We are trying yo buy a similar setup for our build/testing/virtualization server at work. And we are in a sad situation: It already harder to find 2nd gen Epycs (like 7702p) and yet impossible to find 3rd gen.
4:42 Isn't the Kingpin thermal compound blue? Not sure if that's what this is or not but I wouldn't be surprised.
Gotta love Wendell, he's the man.
"There's only so many ways you can design a box..." Oh entropy....
Use it for zooming in to the mandelbrot set with lots of iterations
You missed the most obvious use for tons of cores, RAM, and storage: virtualization. I have VM hosts running 30-40 VMs with dual 18 core CPUs. Depending on use case and VM requirements, I could easily see running 80+ VMs on a server like this.
LMFAO! That blur when you realize you're a middle finger pointer kind of guy.

I know! I have a disease that scars my nailbeds badly, so I usually point with my right middle or pinkie, just because they have intact nails.
The left one is Milan, the right one is Inter Milan.
We love Wendell!
"Have you ever seen blue thermal paste?" Kingpin KPX? Only one of the best thermal pastes on the market.
yeah, maybe that is a kpx
Server grade stuff has super weird cooling. I've got a lenovo desktop for work with a weird threadripper in it and the cooler kinda is like a rack cooler, and little fans on the ram.
8:25 has it been so long since vga that we all collectively forgot about analog signal timings and auto-adjust?
Anyone else notice Pulsway was only installed for the currently logged on user and not "everyone"?
My universities new supercomputer is gonna have AMD 128 core Milan nodes :O. Cant wait to use it :)
I legit didn't skip 1 second in this entire video. Idk if it is the editor who worked on this video or Jake's energy.
I would love to see/hear the "max-mode" of the fans!
Go back to some of their older server videos. Any time they start up they go full blast for a few seconds. I have 4 (older ones) in my office, I wouldn't want to work with them on max but they're not too bad normally.
A system like that is meant to be used as a scheduler to distribute tasks to compute nodes behind it.
