I love how this extends the life of the aircraft practically indefinitely.
These planes last forever if they’re maintained properly!
Or, its a practical upgrade and that extends the life of 991 indefinitely.
Yes. Normal people cannot afford new airplanes anymore. This makes economic sense if committed to the airframe.
Kinda like the B-52 😉
@@observer1242 Getting to be the same way with trucks these days. Seeing some pickups hitting 6-figures now. Insanity. Same goes for those (They'll last forever with a bit of work), but you need a "sacrificial anode" to drive in winter, otherwise your investment will head back to the Earth from whence it came in 12 years flat, or less, depending on where you live.
You know youtube is working out when you can throw almost 70 grand of avionics into your 172!
Glad to see you finally getting your panel and other upgrades to “niner niner one” installed . You have inspired many pilots and future pilots in the world of aviation and these upgrades are well deserved ! You’ve earned them ! May God continue to bless you and keep you safe !
Josh I want you to know that you have inspired me to get my PPL I started my training back in November of 2020 but I don’t get to fly as much as I did when I first started. Only getting about 3hrs a month. Not to mention that I started out in a 150. Had 32hrs in it. Instructor sold it. Moved to a 172 and had 13hrs in it. Did my 2 cross country in it. Now I’m in a 182 And I have 3hrs in it. As you know the 182 is different than the first 2 because of the constant speed prop. One day maybe I’ll have my certificate. Just wanted you to know that your videos have been a inspiration to me and you’ve taught me a lot. If you’re ever in northeast Alabama (Fort Payne) I would love to meet you and just maybe😁😁fly with you one time. Again thank you for what you do and just know that you have inspired me a lot. God bless you brother and looking forward to seeing the end result of 80991. Thank you!
Keep working toward your goal, Chris! Thanks so much for the support!
keep working on it amigo
Went through this same process with C-FMVU. Such an amazing feeling when the panel, switches, and electrical system are all brand new! Not to mention the first time you fly your own plane behind a full glass panel - You're going to love it, I sure did!
I absolutely enjoy your videos. My father flew a Cessna Skyhawk. (N2659Lima). I have alot of memories as a teenager flying with my father, and watching your videos make those memories more special. Thank you, and safe flying.
It would be VERY interesting, too, to see how the autopilot avionics and mechanics "talks" to the flight controls in steering the aircraft in pitch, yaw and roll parameters. We LOVE your makeover episodes.
“What have they done to my baby” 🤣
New panels are stressful. Looks like your in good hands. Can’t wait to see the final product.
What a panel you’re creating! From a 40s design all the way to the latest/greatest. It’s what every 172 needs.
Outstanding Josh! You have succinctly stated what probably needed to be said a long time ago. I've watched you for some time now and was always impressed with your professionalism. If I were younger and financial able, I'd be banging on your door to teach me. BTW, I'm a retired Part 121 A&P having worked with 2 major air carriers. Before that I was a USAF Crew Chief and flew with my plane often and seen some of the best aviators in action. You're right at the top IMHO.
I waited awhile to watch this, but it’s time for part 3 and it came up today. Now on with the show!
Very cool! I need to brand the dashboard somehow. And then you can compete with which of the aviation bloggers is cooler!
I too just completed a complete 172H rebuild. Engine, panel, gross weight increase and full interior change. My 2800 hour plane is better than new! I can share pics.
Can't wait to see the final product!
Awesome. Cant wait to see that panel!
Hey Josh. Don’t forget to talk about new weight and balance calculations!
As an aviation maintenance science student with an avionics minor, I loved this video
Very cool!!! Thanks for sharing your exciting upgrades!!!
That is going to look amazing!!! Can’t wait to see it all Josh!!
I mentor kids in robotics , coding, and CAD. What you need sir is a chopstick. I always have them in my backpack and use them to point out relevant things on the screen while I sit beside the student. When my eyesight was better I had an old telescoping radio antenna with a rubber tip which worked great until one day it miraculously grew legs and left for destinations unknown. These days a chopstick is about the right length and I know where they can be quickly procured. Loving the journey! Thank you for sharing it!
its going to look incredible when its finished! looking forward to following
Love glass cockpits in the C172. Excited for your plane’s FACE LIFT.
Can’t wait to see the final product. ❤️ it!
Wow so cool thanks for taking us along. I love the format of the video nicely done. I look forward to the end product.

Looking good!
Cant wait to see the finished product.
Awesome, I know you must be excited for the new cockpit! Thanks for such GREAT videos.... information... education... etc...
Very nice! You gonna love the new panel!
Great video Josh. I received my private pilot’s license in 1985, but no longer fly due to life’s circumstances. I really enjoy watching your videos and the passion you have for aviation. Thanks Jack
Very fascinating to see the process. Thank you for sharing the experience!
I have been waiting patiently for this video. So excited. I love your content. Keep up the good work.😃
That's amazing. Makes piloting look easy.
Really enjoyed this. Can’t wait for the next edition
This is so super cool. Can’t wait to see it finished
Wow, what a project! I know you’re excited.
Again .. WOW .. so cool. THANK YOU for sharing and taking all of us on this journey. Two thumbs up from CYQT 👍🇨🇦👍
What an absolutely awesome upgrade this is going to be. I admire the skills on the guys doing the install. Can't wait to see the end result.
Looking good can't wait for the next episode.
Wow, must of won the lottery, nice panel can't wait to see it.
wish you were doing all those mods in a new C182 RG Skylane. So looking forward to the finished product video.
They haven't made a new Skylane RG since the ??80's??.
Hello from Minnesota! I love seeing experts do their job! You're going to have quite a plane when there all done!
Sweet Ginger how cool is that! The evolution of your aircraft in the past 5 years has been truly awesome- May you, your dad, and companions continue safe flights and the time of your life.
Sweet, what amazing upgrades.
This is like a great serial. You have a new subscriber. Can't wait for part 3!
Looking forward to part 2
I'm so excited and it's not even my plane! Can't wait to see the end product.
Josh, I am really excited to see where this ends up. The evolution of 991 is inspiring to my uncle and I with 44T. I hope to take you up for a flight one day.
The cinematography of your videos has come so far since I started watching. Keep it up. I’m also anxiously awaiting the next installment. Can’t wait to see 80991 with the new setup! Take care
Wow! Very exciting and I bet you couldn't wait to get it in the air!
So fun to see CNC and rapid prototyping at work, refining the design prior to cutting metal!
Great video - looking forward to the next video.
Thanks for the content
Enjoying this. Thanks.
Lets go. Part 3 cant wait. I love thissss’
Great video Josh!
Gday josh, wow that’s a big job , it’s a credit for the guys that are working on it, should be good when finished, keep up the great video’s, cheers.
Can’t wait to see the next update video!
I used Crystal Avionics at KBAZ for my panel upgrade and was very happy. Eliminated vacuum pumps, dual G5/ADSB w/345 xpndr, Garmin 210 interface to link it all together. Completely new panel face styled after the flat metal panels from the restart Cessnas. Not cheap but excellent work and close enough to drive over and check on progress from home.
Very well done!
Wow josh, very impressive I must say I started getting anxiety on that day 1 shot as we've seen you fly your plane with the old instruments for a fair few years now but to see 991 getting compleatly gutted and a full transformation Into something compleatly different. I'm enjoying watching this transformation and can't wait for the next episode and seeing the final panel come together I'm so stoked for the next couple of days/ weeks of this project, hope your excited to! 😊
Thanks for taking us through the process Josh. Always a scary sight to see things in pieces. These guys look very accomplished and capable. It will be interesting to see the final outcome. Please let us know what an overhaul cost like this would be and what it does to the weight and balance. Thanks for the videos
I can empathize with that "what have we done?" feeling. A couple of months ago I accepted a paid A&P apprenticeship. In assisting with some pretty deep teardowns, sometimes I'll look at the tables stacked with parts and wonder the same thing. I can only imagine what that must feel like as the owner of the aircraft. Excited to see the final results!
Hi, I'm new to the channel, but I'm really loving it. Excited to see the new upgraded Cessna, gonna miss the old avionics but I guess everything needs to be freshened up every once and a while!
Excellent stuff bro
Very nice. Looks a perfect aircraft update that any aircraft owner would lust for in their dreams. We viewers are very fortunate to be allowed to watch the process, challenges and decisions you are making. Thank you for sharing with us all.
Josh, I am anxious to see the final product. Your video work and editing always amazes me. Something I noticed when I clicked to leave this comment was there was 101 comments. Very fitting for Aviation 101. 🤘. Keep up the excellent work, and definitely fly safe. 🤘🇺🇸🛩️
C. Wwnwth fun uuuyy
Pretty cool the way they do this Josh and they have basically torn down the entire AC. Can't wait to see the finished product!
Huge respect for these guys! I turn wrenches for a living on ground based stuff (Mostly - I've worked on PPG and PPC), and the thing I dread the most is having to fabricate things. It takes too much time for my lack of patience, lol, and I hate doing things twice to get something to fit correctly, & that's just part of the process. I wasn't built for that. This is one job I could never do and remain sane! Excellent work they're doing here! You're going to have one nice aircraft when this is all done, Josh! 🙌🍻
Can’t wait to see the complete makeover and first flight, are you going to make a 10 year anniversary video of 80991. Be safe, fly safe!
I can’t wait until it gets done
Excellent video of the progre, I enjoy your great videos. From Mexico greetings.
I love my GTN 750, great choice!
Subbed solely for this series of videos after seeing the previous "end of an era" episode, loving it!
1:48 nice
Great Vid!
this is amazing!
Great series. Would be great to get at some point some insights in how long the plane was grounded, how much planing upfront was involved, biggest problems and so on.
I would be really interested in seeing a deep dive video into how you are setting up the camera mounts and providing power to the outboard cameras.
I am waiting for the next episode more I’ve ever waited for any movie nor to show!!! Love the SkyHawk
Omg thats going to look amazing
Gotta love the blue stripes.
Uncompromisingly Epic! Exquisite; Precise; Practical.
Wish I had an instructor like you.
Wow this is going to be stunning! Can’t wait to see the final product! Inspiring further upgrades for my 182. Currently have GMA 345, GTN 650, and GTX 345 with dual G5s. Thinking about adding GFC500. Love your videos and have been a viewer for many years! Cheers Josh!
I just upgraded my Dakota with 2 G5s GTN 650 JPI 930 and GFC 500. Ill tell you i am very pleased and it integrates very well. The flightstream 210 is also a nice feature as well.
Very much liking this series.
Wow oh wow! That is gonna be nice!
Gezzzz, 991 is so lucky to have you n Dad as owners. I fully get small upgrades but it will make for swiss cheese out of sheet metal. LoL. Looks like you got the right guys on the job. A+ J!!! 👍🏻👍🏻😎😎😎
Looks very nice. Wish I had the moolah to do pretty much the same setup. Hopefully one day down the road.
Awesome stuff brother. We are doing almost the exact same panel upgrade in our 182RG. G3X, 650Xi, G5, GTR-200, GFC500. Can’t wait! Congrats.
That’s some serious hardware
Gonna be such a sweet panel when its done.
so cool talk about eye to detail
I will really miss the old analogic dashboard especially on the night flights videos. Good upgrade by the way Josh. Greetings from Brazil, fly safe.
The finished product is going to be incredible to say the least!
It's my bedtime, but I had to see this first! WOW. You and Angle of Attack will have such cool planes to fly.
Great video Josh! Looking forward to seeing the finished product. What do you currently use for power for externally mounted cameras? I’m using club planes so need something easily on/off before and after flights.
Right now, I don’t mount cameras externally. There’s no safe way to externally power them without the flight flix units, which will be installed at the end of all this!
