It's the last weekend of goose hunting season and Matt is out on a solo hunt over an ice hole. He sets up a small decoy spread with goose fullbodies and sleeper shells. It isn't long before geese show up and start decoying right into the spread. Matt ends with a triple on geese; his first goose triple ever! No better way to end goose hunting season 2023!

That’s called being a “sportsman”. Ethical is shooting a bird in the head with a kill shot while it’s sitting instead of yelling at it and then shooting it in the wing or back when it flies.
@swamptosoundadventures8337 ethical is shooting birds in reasonable ranges. Doesn't matter if they're flying or sitting.
@@HighPrairieSportsmen yes but it’s also killing them in the best and quickest way possible. I’m not bashing, do as u like, at least u aren’t sky blasting.
In my opinion, it’s not unethical or unsportsmanlike to shoot a landed bird. Your spread was good enough to trick a bird that got shot at all winter into landing.

Great job Matt! There were a lot of geese in the air just not where you were. 3 huge flocks in the background at the 4:57 mark in the video. You got it done though. Enjoyed the video.

Well shot Matt! I think you may have got a scotch double on the triple you shot that second shot looked like it hit both those geese... Not sure if it would've been enough to knock it down but your third shot sure did. My buddies and I just got together last night to plan for next duck season... Yes sir it was a record year for me didn't shoot the most geese this year but shot the biggest honkers I have ever shot eneded the year with a 13 12 1/2 10 1/2 3 tens a couple 8s and a handful of litter ones but 13# was my biggest to date

Really enjoy your videos and the editing. Triples are doable especially if you get them close. My favorite was we had 4 geese coming in 1 tight and 3 at about 40-45 yards. Told my buddy to take the close one and I jumped up hoping to knock down 1 or 2 of the 3 higher geese. Pulled through the lead goose and fired. All 3 folded up and they weren’t that close together?? Lucky I guess

Nicely done Sir, nothing better than moving water, small spread ,and success. Birds on this side of the state are lazy, they sit all day and you might get a 20 minute hunt in the evening. On a side note, nobody would have hated you for shooting that bird on the ice, but we sure admire you for not.

Go with 5s. I like the Ethos over the SBE3

Matt, do you scout before these small bets of water or do you just set up where you know geese are flying over?
I scout them out to find open water. Some days they work, some days you hardly see any. Last time I hunted there I was skunked.

What kind of ammunition are you shooting out of your 28 gauge? You think it would work good out of a 20-gauge?
This hunt was with my 12 gauge. I was using Venari bismuth 2 3/4" 2s. They would work great with a 20 gauge. I use Boss 2 3/4" 6s for ducks in my 28 gauge.
