  • Duke was totally out of left field. Far too fast of an intro, then to be set to take over the shelby family name? Very unimpressed by this. It honestly has me dreading the movie.

    • It was a little out of no where although another comment mentioned that Tommy's relationship with Dukes mother was mentioned in s5 (I do remember that). I am looking forward to the movie tho because they HAVE TO wrap things up in the movie, so I'm sure there'll be plenty of strategies to do with Mosley and Hitler in the movie, which is always good fun.

    • @@justmovierants8762 Do they though? I can see them inventing a whole new plot. and wrap it up with war being declared Lets remember here that despite the fiction they are trying to insert ficticious characters into real life characters and situations. Mosley was polically finished by 1932 and in jail by 1940 Churchill becomes Prime minister so he isn't going to be doing shadey deals with a Birmingham gang especially one that seems to have grown to be more infamous than the Kray twins ever were. You literally can't make stuff up about real life famous people they still have estates and relatives that will sue! You have to be very careful otherwise you risk exposing the fiction and then its done because you no longer believe it, We all knew Tommy's plot to kill mosley would fail as mosley died in 1980. It doesn't detract from the ficticious plot because it fails and we as viewers can believe that it was never reported in real life.( We can therefore believe the concept plausible) Sod the Billy Boys they're small time rangers supporters compared to the IRA Not to be confused with "The provisional IRA" who had Tommy been dealing with them would have killed him long before he even knew they were after him.But as they didn't form till 1969 he wasn't facing them lucky for him. I think the film will be Tommy trying to stop Mosley and his Facsist party, with some token interactions with uncle Jack. Who is "hedging his bets" over the rise of facsism with the onset of WW2he may simply disappear until it blows over

    • Kenneth, I just recently watched season 6 and those were my thoughts almost to the letter! I love the show but this season just felt like a lot of "filler" largely in part as you stated to Helen's unfortunate passing (R.I.P) Bringing back Alfie Solomon's character felt like a spur of the moment thing as his story didn't really amount to much and wasn't really needed and I say that with a heavy heart because I love Alfie! I also wondered if Alfie was actually dead and Tommy was just hallucinating especially towards the end when he sort of materializes out of no where at the bar! lol ! It's a sad ending to such a great series for sure.

We see a more psychological and political side of Tommy's life, after all he's not just a street gangster anymore, he's a politician, a businessman, and a gangster therefore he cant go on physical wars with his enemies, the battle would be a political one.

  • I agree... the past seasons all had an end goal and each episode placed a piece in the final picture of each last episode of each season. This felt very much like checkers than the chess style plot/pacing of what we're use to. I liked a lot of things from S6 but the pacing made me felt unease and just off. The fact that we only heard Red Right Hand once in S6 should say it all. It wasn't the Peaky Blinders that we are use to. It felt like a different Peaky Blinders to me. To continue on the pacing, it felt like what Justice League went through. A lot of editing/cutting may have happened but why would Steven Knight do that. Season 6 has me confused on if I actually like it or the wait/hype has me liking it. If that makes sense. But yeah the pacing was very much off, as well as a few small things for me. I hope the movie continues/ends the Mosley plot line. I was really keen for that in S6. The pacing better be good. More cigar than a cigarette, meaning slow and thought out not rushed and abrupt.

    @KarmaKaazi@KarmaKaazi Жыл бұрын
    • I really missed the red right hand, was such an iconic peaky blinders song that we heard less and less towards the later seasons unfortunately. I think we should see some sort of closure with the Mosley plot in the movie. I also hope they don't feel the need to stick to history too much since peaky blinders is very stylized. Just should just pull a Tarantino and "rewrite" history 😂😂

  • What I found most irritating was the fact the Grace was nowhere to be found in the whole season. Tommy was constantly trying to talk to her in season 5, because he either needed comfort or advice, and then when he’s under even more need of comfort and advice in season 6, she just disappears from the show.

  • I’ve always been a fan of Michael’s character arc as he went from just some boy Polly brought in to someone who wanted to replace Tommy and run the peaky blinders. I was looking forward to seeing him and Tommy compete with each other not only physically but mentally as well, but since Michael was in prison for five episodes we didn’t get to see that. Also Arthur has always been my favorite in this show and seeing how they handled him this season was frustrating. I was wondering what you thought of the way they handled Finn? I think for him to get completely ostracized from the family in the span of 15 minutes was really rushed, I see where they were going with that but as I said it felt so rushed. Great review man

    • thanks man glad you enjoyed the video. I'm definitely on the same wavelength as you here. Michael was one of my favourite character til s5 where i felt like they just decided to make him bad. But even then i was on board with it and woulda been super cool to see him battle with Tommy (in terms of strategies). throughout this season, every episode i was like "surely he gets out this episode", but never happened til last ep :'( and even then the plan was pretty half baked and straightforward.

  • 1) I have never before had a temptation to skip around in Peaky Blinders 2) Why is the iconic theme not playing? 3) Why does the IRA lady have the same face all the time? Is she crying and why isn't she more of a badass? 4) Why is it all shot in this dream-like manner? Is that in itself bad? No. But why are almost all scenes done in what feels like a slow motion? 5) Why is everything being said out loud as if the audience is stupid? "I have no limits" ... "one of you will die"... "I will kill Thomas Shelby".... am I being overly criticl to view that as a breach of the golden rule "don't tell, show"? 6) Why does Thomas go everywhere alone this season? 7) Why doesn't the show feel complete even after the finale? Why are there more villians / foes this season than ever before and yet... there is no conclusion? 8) There were such great scenes in great style, but why am I kind of disappointed? - (e.g. the one where they are dealing with the snitch Billy - those are the Peaky Blinders I fell in love with. Intriques, strategy.. they set up, confirm, hint at... and show what you can only try to guess before). 9) Why does forshadowing this season have to be repeated one hundred times? It would have been better if it was subtle and yet not obvious... so it actually keeps the audience on their toes. 10) Why the hell does Thomas Shelby go everywhere alone this season? (Even into the enemy's territory, who he knows want to exterminate him). 11) Why did it have to be a timed bomb? What if the plane had a delay or Thomas wanted to give a speech longer than initially intended? Why not a wired grenade? or poison? or gunshot? 12) why did Lizzie have to be so salty and toxic towards Thomas the whole season out of the sudden? Yes, every character in the Shelby family has a good reason to both love and hate Tommy. But here is the thing... repeating all the same phrases and complains gets repetitive and obnoxious. 13) does Stagg's speech make sense? Would Arthur and the others really just walk away and weaken their reputation? 14) why does Tommy suddenly seem to have all the information all the time about everyone? In the previous season if I remember correctly, he didn't always act as if he was an omni-knoweth being? 15) why are Ada, Thomas, Duke (Thomas' new son), Uncle Jack and annoying Gina so freaking well written and well acted? While at the same time there is the "no-acting range/sad" IRA lady.... Arthur without any epic and even Alfie feels underwhelming in the first episode... 16) how can Alfie-fucking Solomons feel like an underwhelming "comic relief" character who tells just one /absolutely great... but still... just a joke.

Agree with everything else. 16) very sad, want more alfie :( in s3 and s4 he wasnt even a main character and yet still had big impact and great scenes. not the case in this season unfortunately

    • The whole IRA lady plot still baffles me. Why would she prevent the assassination of Mosley? A strong fascist England Allied with a strong fascist germany would soon mean an invasion and retaking of ireland by the brits. She should want the conflict between England and Germany in order to weaken the english grip over northern ireland, that could be a reasonable position to use a kidnapping or blackmail Tommy into supporting Englands participation in the Second world war, which could conflict with his Views on war after his service. Overall, keeping Mosley alive for Season 6 was completely worthless, there was no payoff or interesting development from It and It certainly robbed time from the Michael x Tommy plot that could have been way better written.

  • Not only that but The themes of season 5 were left behind. Me personally I loved the dark serious tone of season 5, exploring Tommys mental state and suicide thoughts, the times he would take drugs to have a vision of Grace and the overall feel of season 5 was so real and dark, the music and that one sound where its just deep breathes added so much to the feel of the season, even most of the episodes in that season were dark or foggy and misty to represent the times and I think Tommys mental state. And all of a sudden Tommy is just healthy and got past it all even though he should have more reason to be in a darker place considering he lost 3 of his closest people (Polly,Aberama,Barney). It just does not make sense why the writers wouldn’t follow up on this theme that was impacting Tommy so much, and actually show us Tom overcoming that instead of giving us a time skip and just accept the fact that he's okay now.

    @vash06@vash06 Жыл бұрын

But I do agree that I wanted more cat-and-mouse between Michael, Tommy, Mosley, and the IRA. But hopefully we get more Mosley cat-and-mouse in the movie. As for why Tommy didn’t kill the doc… I think it was genuine aversion to wanting to kill more. The whole season (and series) has been littered with characters getting tired of killing. I think it finally caught up. And yeah, the lack of Billy Boys was weird to me. You don’t introduce something and then forget about it.

  • Nice analysis! I love the show too, but I see other issues. One, the Duke felt forced, which hurt the big revel. His character had potential and worked, but having him cast out Fin saying “you’re not family anymore” was out of place. To the viewers, the Duke just got here. He’s not family yet! Also Isaiah just watched his friend, who he knew for years, get beat by the new guy. Next, the villains had no impact compared to others we’ve seen. Aside from Mosley being a Fascist, he doesn’t DO anything evil to justify the threat level. Jack was imposing and we knew he was planning to kill the Shelbys, but he was considered a lower priority in the eyes of the characters. There’s other issues, but here’s why we can’t be too upset over the writing. While they handled Polly’s death well in the show, the passing of her actress caused reshoots. I believe this was why Arthur and Michale weren’t prominent; they had to cut out their scenes interacting with Pol., in fact they allude to it (“Polly would help Arthur overcome his problems”). That Filler subplot? Guaranteed Polly originally played a greater role in the Gypsy business, so they had to later stretch it out. Michael likely was suppose to be with Polly the whole season, possibly building up his plans to kill Tommy. There were likely other narrative elements that had to be changed too. Ps: Gray was still he deep shit for loosing Tommy money on Black Tuesday, and they just dropped that plot.

  • I thought the first episode was great, and the finale was okay (though the doctor revelation and gunfight with the IRA was amazing), but everything else.... disappointingly bland. My man Michael literally sat in prison for the whole season and as soon as he was released, he got shot dead. His struggle with Tommy should have been the main focus of the season, not introducing a new weak villain (Nelson) and having Tommy run around the Gypsy countryside with Esme looking for a cure for his daughter. Plus, Finn's disillusionment with the gang felt really out of place and hamfisted, alongside the introduction of Tommy's lost son. But the biggest missed opportunity imo was the presence of the Billy Boys and Jimmy Mccavern as the antagonists. They were a great dark reflection of the Peaky Blinders and had earned their villainy through murdering Bonnie. Jimmy still had beef to settle with Arthur. I think the death of Helen McCrory is what causes Knight to rewrite season 6 in the manner he did. You could expect that Polly's arc would have been about avenging Aberama and dealing with the fact that her son was now a threat. Instead, a whole host of new plotlines and characters had to be manufactured. Though, I will say I like how Tommy's arc played out. In an ironic twist, his enemies attempts to make him doubt his own mortality actually molded him into a 'better' man, which will be interesting to see play out in the movie.

To be fair, most character that were Tommy nemesis and live to another season become bad developed and a shadow of what they were, often with crapy explanations, which sucks. Whenever I saw Gina on screen I cringed. Duke becoming someone so easy to trust was quite strange and that confrontation with Finn? Wtf that was? In previous seasons for me it was hard to predict what's going to happen in last episode, but this one was so obvious. Also Micheal felt so off, like his motives didn't speak to me. Im the only one that thinks that this season had sooo many retrospections. Every episode had like 2 Polly and Michael quotes from the past. At the end I would rather see Tom killing himself because that would sum his life perfectly. Hope the film won't make it all rainbow at the end. Not gonna even speak about the spoiler by Micheal that Polly said that Tom won't die from a bullet. Eh. Good accent tho with Changretta bullet with Toms name curved in it. Anyway its like you said, there were good ideas, but poorly executed. By the way great work, Im surprised your channel is so little. Earned my sub

  • Felt like the way they wrote Finn was also a massive shame. Out of anyone, he GREW up throughout the show - and should've grown into his role a lot better than what he was written to do. Essentially being the next down from John, he should've been given a much better character arc. Especially if Arthur was taking a backseat, someone needed to fill the sidekick's shoes. But no, they just replaced him suddenly with Tom's newly discovered son who we know basically nothing about, and who was introduced abruptly out of nowhere. Also felt like there was a weird disconnect between Finn and Isaiah. The pair of them basically grew up together, yet neither of them really shared any chemistry or friendship.

Now she was just the säd character crying the whole season. I didn't feel the new bad guy, John Morgan was charismatic enough after the long line of top-tier baddies this series has had. And don't even get me started with Duke. One of the reasons I have always loved PB is that all its characters were there for a reason and they all had meaningful problems, challenges and relationships with others. Uncharacteristically for the series Duke just spawned in like "hey I'm your son lmao" and started bossing everyone around. I just denied his existence when he was on the screen. I felt like season 6's dropping quality was first seen in his character. All this felt even worse when you still had og all-star characters like Ada, Arthur and Michael alive. Now they all got shelved for the entire season so they can fast track some new guy (Duke) randomly in the series right after the loss of a daughter (Ruby) and focus on filler content. Oh, and I felt like Mosley didn't evolve at all in S6. I loved him in S5, and his rise through the ranks of UK's and Nazi politics and as a true threat to Thomas in multiple ways (politics, business, ethnicity, relationships) with a charismatic actor that portrayed him well made him the star of S5. But in S6 I felt like he was shelved as "the Nazi guy" who just barked "Jews bad". His development in S6 was to get married and meet Hitler off-screen. Although his wife was a great character, I felt like she stole his limelight just a little bit too much.

  • Before Tommy spared the doctor, he said Armistice, the day that marks the end of WW I. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 when the armistice was signed which I guess it indicates his past life is now officially end and all the things and people are now nothing to him. Even the director said it before the series aired, the theme of this season is about Tommy's Dark and Light. as for this season maybe we can change our mindset to Tommy's behavioral aspects of psychology as the main plot and other deals/villains as the secondary plot for the main plot of Tommy, I think it will feel better when watching it? all the powerful villains' appearances were just indicating the "dark", they don't have a specific plot, they are just a "number". Micheal was just a "fear". Polly visits me no more, he killed his last fear, he's now no limitation. Ruby was a "light". beginning of the show, his "light" was dim, it magnified the "dark" of him. Even a the beginning of the show he ain't shot the Pigeon at the bar for no reason, it shows he was still in "soldier" all these years which means the ptsd still with him. (Pigeons were the important communication tools for WW1 & commonly used by the front lines soldiers to send messages to their units & commanders. Tommy probably used to shoot the pigeons during the war to avoid the enemy soldiers sending info to their units. that was actually a subconscious action. he knew the reality as he already shot the public phone in his first shot but still..) his PTSD probably got serious when he was sober. (People always underestimated PTSD. it actually follows you forever.) all the seizures and throw-up explained. In the beginning, when Lizzie told Tommy about ruby's nightmare, his "light" was fighting with the "dark". the whole series was nothing about the gypsy, that was his shelter/shield and he knew it. Tommy wasn't standing there looking a the fly beside the window for minutes for no reason. the fly indicated him. the fly saw the light from the window but it can't really be in the light as there was a sheer. there was something of him that can't completely let go even tho he When he was ready to die, his subconscious(Ruby) told him that there was something he saw before which printed in his mind but he did not realize it. (that's why we need the hypnosis in certain situations) I can say this is the least gangster-like season of the whole series and I understand why people don't like it. but it really concludes Tommy's story(life) very well. (Yes. a lot of people misunderstand the whole series is about the Peaky Blinders. but It was actually about about Tommy Shelby's story and his perspective of the evolution of Peaky Blinders) I actually like the writer/director trying to break the chain of the plot structure from previous season. It doesn't matter whether it succeeds or not at least they tried unlike other series milking it still end with the same plot every season. PS: there's even a rumor said that Alfie was actually the imagination of Tommy all thesewhile (season 5&6)

I don't really have much to comment right now because it's a whole different perspective. But even just reading what you said it definitely changes the way i see why some things happened the way they are, especially why this season was so focused on Tommy and why he felt so alone... if this was indeed the intent of the director, it's a shame that it didnt get across to audience, i guess the previous seasons kinda set up a sort of expectations for what the audience should expect when watching peaky blinders

  • By far the best series 6 review I have found, thanks. I pretty much agree, though I did like the whole Ruby subplot and very much liked the hint of potentially real supernatural magic with her appearance leading to the newspaper fragment that exposed the doctor's hoax diagnosis. The pacing did drag at times, and S6 is the weakest on the whole, but the (pre-movie) ending was quite good, partially redeeming it IMHO... Knight was obviously caught off-guard by the very sad and untimely death of Helen McCrory, and I wish Aidan Gillen's character had survived S5 (Gold's death was dramatically unnecessary, and we lost a great character)... I'm also okay with the Mosley conflict being left unresolved because (as you point out) he's too infamous as real historical character to stop/kill-off, and the Nelson/Joseph P. is a very thin fictional veil as well. Quinton Tarantino may be able to assassinate the entire Third Reich leadership in a French theatre, but I'm glad Peaky Blinders didn't choose to play fast and loose with the history on a macro level. • My jaw just dropped as I was watching this vid cos it’s like u took the words right out of my mouth! Hahaha! I just wanna drop my two cents as well: - I really admire how they wrote in Polly’s death, it fit in seamlessly despite the untimely passing of Helen and made it incredibly tasteful. It really did make Michael’s intentions stronger and more believable as something he would push through with, instead of just plain greed or lust for power. I also did not feel any sense of fear or cautiousness in terms of their relationship with the IRA and their subplot almost felt like a filler throughout the season. - Despite Arthur not having any major roles or lengthy screentime this season, I think he was somehow a way to showcase the family man/ compassionate side of tommy that has been highlighted before but often goes unnoticed because he’s usually on to the next big, explosive thing. I also noticed most of their dialogue were reminiscent, comforting, and heartfelt. The brotherly love was evident and he did go to great lengths to help Arthur (again). I think it theirs was the only relationship in the season that wasn’t so hostile. - I think we were all led to believe that S6 would be a Michael vs. Tommy game of cat and mouse but in the first few episodes they already exposed how Michael for not being as powerful or as smart as Tommy is, then he was sent to the background (aka prison) for majority of the episodes. I also thought Gina would’ve been this big secret weapon when in fact she was just as ambitious as Michael was and didn’t have the chops to pull it all off. - I love when they showcase how capable and badass Ada is (she’s one of my faves too!) and given her political background and knowledge it was so nice to see her shine in the relevant subplots. Since more family members have been killed off, I hope she gets more roles in the whole dynamic. - I do agree that Ruby’s death was somewhat a diversion from the main plot although it did help in character development, it was just so out of tune at times. Also, even though it did drag on, I don’t think it was fleshed out well enough, like with all that time they allotted for that story they could’ve done so much to showcase Tommy’s emotions!! I think they also kind of teased us with Duke as I thought he was going to have this big moment too but he just got Finn shunned. - The first and last episode I believe had the heftiest, most useful material. When tommy and michael were facing off I could feel their reluctance and when tommy said “i have no limitations” a lightbulb went on and I realized he really has been no holds barred throughout the season. I also noticed some resemblance to the breaking bad plot?? (the sickness, the explosion, the outsmarting, etc.,) HAHAHA or maybe I’m just such a huge fan of both and they both have great writing. and even before I knew Tommy was going to live, I still would’ve thought the ending was satisfying since he would’ve died with his pride and all. Anyway, overall it was still quality content and the acting, some parts of the story, and other technicals were excellent. Since there is a movie in the making, that could possibly explain the filler-like events as u said “saving the best parts” for the movie but i do wish they didn’t compromise that much HAHAHHA. It was still an emotional rollercoaster, I’m still a fan and am looking forward to the movie and more content from this channel!

Afterall, he's lost John, Linda, and now Polly too, he's probably going through a lot and the only person that he shared a strong past who's still here is Tommy (since he never seemed close to Ada). Their reminiscing of the past in the Celler was actually quite emotional and I actually really liked that scene.

  • They should change the name for the show for season 6 to Thomas Shelby's shitty life because the Peaky Blinders was barely an afterthought in season 6. What made this show good was Thomas Shelby's badass personality, the fantastic supporting characters, a good intimidating villain that you don't want to mess with and a riveting plot line that builds and crescendos into an intense climax in the season finale. What we got instead in season 6 was a choppy plot that had random elements thrown in with every episode and absolutely butchered the supporting characters. Arthur is literally a useless drunk in every episode offering absolutely nothing to the show. Ada is confined to a handful of scenes when she could've been utilized so much more. Michael, who is supposed to be Thomas sworn enemy is in the first two episodes and then gets locked up and not seen until the ending. What is that? They give a brief foreshadow of the Thomas and Michael ultimate showdown and then literally throws Michael out of the show until they showdown. Zero buildup and it just felt forced at the end. I have no idea what they wanted to do with Lizzie. She is angry at Thomas one scene and then the next she is supportive of him and then she is back at shouting at Thomas the next. She is sad and angry that Thomas doesn't show more emotion or spend more family time the whole season. Yes we got the point, we don't need to be reminded of how she feels 2 times every episode. And I can't believe I have to say this but we needed more Peaky Blinders in this show. More of the schemes and antics they normally pull. Instead we just get Thomas grieving and battling his inner demons every single goddam episode. I don't even know who the villain is this season. Is it Michael, Mosley, Jack Nelson, or Thomas' inner demons? I honestly think it's the inner demons. Also what the hell happened to the Billy Boys from season 5. Such a potent threat the previous season just disappered. Such a waste of good villain material went down the drain. Same couldve been said about Mosley. A true devil in season 5 reduced to a barely featured rude dinner guest cameo in season 6. All in all, the worst season of the whole series by far and such a disappointing end to a great show.

    • Yes, S6 should be called The Tommy and Lizzie Show, look what a horrible marriage we have. A lot about the two of them and there are much more interesting themes and more interesting characters than Lizzie, like Arthur, Ada, Duke, Michaels and his revenge. And besides that the two of them don't have chemistry or sound natural, are we supposed to believe that Tommy is very much in love with Lizzie, he fell in love out of nowhere? I don't understand that relationship.

  • Personally, I found this season (also a bit last season, but especially this one) quite gloomy. It is of course a drama series, but I missed the comradery between the group. In this season, I mostly felt something was missing because Polly was gone (something that the creators of the show couldn't do anything about, of course, and they probably did the best they could with what they had) but I missed her character. Hellen brought so much personality, it didn't feel the same without her. I also liked Arthur a little less this time. He's been running drunk in the background all season and did not do much (except for the end, when he shoots members of the IRA to get revenge). It wasn't a bad season, but it's my least favorite so far.

  • Can't believe there isn't enough serious critique of this series. It started to fall off hard for me with series 3, when once again everything at the end of the season was tied up off-screen, off-script, with a phone call/letter/meeting Shelby has with a very important person that solves all his problems for him. So much screen time was dedicated in Series 4-5 to essentially making punk-rock music videos with the set and costume design, but not actually developing any decent plot or characterizations. The whole second half of the show felt like it was written in such a way as to provide as many music-video camera shots as possible, not telling a believable or interesting story.

  • I've just finished watching Peaky Blinders from start to finish and my conclusion about the series is it's not very good. Every member of the gang rides the coat tails of Tomas Shelby's success, without Tommy they were complete losers. Arthur in particular was a pathetic character as was Finn who never developed. The only character aside from Tommy that pulled off playing a hardened criminal was the leader of the Billy Boys who was never given any real back story and was completely absent from season 6. Abadema Gold was meant to be some ruthless gypsy was another disappointment. The final shoot out between Arthur and the I.R.A was dumb, they had a machine gun setup that could of killed all of the I.R.A squad as soon as they got out of the truck but no they chose this poorly written scene. Kicking Finn out of the family scene was another dumb scene by having been given an ultimatum by a gypsy who's been in the family for all of 5 minutes it should have been Arthur or Tommy to deliver the ultimatum to Finn. When I watched Boardwalk Empire the pacing of the show and the character development and it's many interesting character's was far superior compared to Peaky Blinders. Overall the Peaky Blinders series gets a 3/10.

It is a sad part of Irish history where they were willing to accept anyone’s help, even an alliance with the fascists in order to achieve independence. My suggestions for what could have been done differently in S6 is as follows: I think that they could have given Oswald more agency through showing how the kids of the peaky blinders are being picked at in school (there was a moment with Ada, but I think just 3 mins of similar screen time per episode would have made Oswald a more tangible threat). Additionally-while I do understand Oswald’s future wife is off the bat crazy, I really doubt a real nazi would like to sleep with gypsies. I would have preferred a dickish lady that wears gloves while in Tom’s presence. Furthermore-if they wanted to show Arthur’s suffering, why not have footage of a beliavable abstinence crisis? (the dialogue where he broke down crying, instead of beating Stagg was amazing). Also-why not have Lizzy fall pregnant right after Ruby dies and have her struggle with abivalent feelings-does she keep the baby or not-instead of wipping up an illegitimate son out of thin air? Also-I think making Gina more openly evil by showing possible combos where she gets all the money for herself with the help of her uncle, making Michael suspicious based on intuition and second guessing his revenge fantasy against Tommy would have been a good idea. It would have made some sense if they wanted to stick to the idea that Michael is no match for Tommy (aka-Gina sees him as weak). On top of that I think just a bit more open falling apart together (as in Lizzy and Tommy together) after Ruby’s death would have been human-like to have Tommy actually cry on Lizzies shoulder and admit his wrongdoings. Also-killing Michael was somewhat uncalled for. Like, I get it, but comm’on-so fucking predictable! Why not have a scene where they mourn Polly together and then make a plot against the fascists? That would have been unexpected… p.s. Women need more agnecy! That Ada scene was proof it is possible even with Polly gone

The point with the IRA lady, I understand that she is no where near as powerful as Mosley or Jack Nelson, I think my point in the video was that they shouldn't have set her up to have power over the peaky blinders only to completely under cut it. It's just not as satisfying when the villains that are defeated have the least build up towards their defeat. I like your suggestions, and I agree if Mosley's wife was a super nazi, she probably wouldn't want to even be associated with Tommy. But at the same time sleeping with Tommy might be her establishing control and dominance?

Regarding Tommy and Michael, I feel like Tommy was really trying to change, so maybe not an allieance, but just mercy towards Michael would have still been in character? Yeah, sex could have been a power play, but still-it goes so openly against the ideology of eugenics it just ends up feeling insane (in which case I would have her do more just off the bat things to completely paint the picture). After loving the series so much we feel letdown first by the missing theme song ," The Red Right Hand" which we feel is Tommy Shelby's song. Then the gypsies part should not take so much showtime 'cos Tommy's sorrow over Ruby's death seems so over-the-top where we find him killing 4 people because of it & the scenes with Esme is ugly. It's so unnessary. To make Finn as Tommy's enemy just because there will be Duke is not a wise write up 'cos we have seen Finn going through so much ups & downs with the family , so to have him discarded in a disrespect manner is just not good.As you said they should concentrate on just 2 main plots of the story ie Michael's revenge & Oswald-Jack Nelson-IRA-Billy Boys connection and get all the family members involved helping Tommy. . Peaky Blinders is about family .

And it's one of the things I didn't like about S6 because they focused a lot on Tommy and Lizzie and their horrible marriage and had much more interesting themes and characters. Like Ada, Arthut, even Duke, Finn I was expecting a big revenge from Michael, it was very disappointing.

    @ANGELOFDARKification@ANGELOFDARKification Жыл бұрын
  • For me it was disappointing bc I wanted it to be more of a political angle. In the past seasons Tommy had dealt with foes that gradually got bigger and bigger, until finally, he has found someone far greater then him in skills(Mosely) and man-power (fascist movement) I was hoping to see elements of nazis and other fascists (I don't know if anyone can explain this to me but if you look at the OST of series 6 it has a painting of adolf hitler, I don't know if it was imply he would make a cameo) I was expecting so much, in my opinion season 5 lead up with a villain who Tommy couldn't read or keep up was the greatest lead up to a possibly fantastic ending. I wanted to see Fascist clash, and political disorder and tommy realising that not all his foes could be rationally deal with and some were truly evil(this was implied heavily with him seeing Mosely's speeches, the realisation of horror he isn't dealing with no longer a typical gangster or power hungry cop but a real political evil) Mosely to me was the perfect Ideal Evil. It was a waste of so much potential Edit: Wrote this before watching, totally agree with you, if the movie was to be the confrontation with the fascist movement, it should have being Michael and Tommy's antagonism

    @angelzavala1639@angelzavala163911 ай бұрын
    • I think mosely is more of a lazy way of doing it though, hes a real figure who doesn't actually die until 1980. What pisses me off is that he can't kill Mosely ever but there was better ways of dealing with Mosely like Tommy destroying his facist movement from within. I've never seen a season so badly written!

I guess that Helen’s unprecedented death did have an affect but besides that, it’s so surprising that a show like this managed to have this weak of a season.

  • My main problems with Season 6 were: 1. Too much time spent on the sick daughter subplot 2. Michael and Mosely were both very weak villains and wasted in this season. 3. Way too many overdubs of Polly's prophecy. 4. Duke and Billy were both great but introduced way too late. 5. I wanted more Anya Taylor-Joy

  • As much as I hate when they do this, they should have just recast Polly. She was literally one of the two main characters and if they really did have to change everything so much because of the actresses passing, they should have just recast her. Would have felt off but at least the show would have went in the direction it was supposed to.

  • This season was meandering and anti climatic. However, Duke’s mother wasnt a random relationship. Shes referrenced in previous seasons as Tommy’s true love before the war. And IIRC, Tommy brought Lizzie down to the river, and told her about it before they smashed. Tommy’s seizures were mishandled. Its supposed to be connected to his ptsd, his opium fever dreams, and his head injury he suffered in S2. So he has a history that led to seizures being a legitimate plot point, then magically its nothing cuz the doctor is in Mosley’s pocket…? Other than that, I thought Grace was too bland and boring for Tommy, and Lizzie was by far too unattractive to be the leading lady. Shes better suited to play Olive Oil in a Popeye remake.

    @islandwarrioryoga@islandwarrioryoga Жыл бұрын
    • Yea I actually always thought the seizures were to do with PTSD and opium withdraw, I guess with the twist and the end, that is still the cause. Also a bit harsh on Lizzie there mate hahaha I did ship May over Grace in s2 onwards tho ngl

  • As good as the show was, seasons 5-6 were nowhere near as entertaining as the first 4 seasons. It definitely started to feel a little repetitive in the later seasons and I absolutely hated season 6 and the finale, they did Finn absolutely dirty, I thought there wasn't one point where i actually felt Michael was going to best Tommy, Michael wasted to me becoming a villain because they built him up to be Tommy's right hand man just to do that. I hope the movie isn't just a money grab and they have a good story in mind.

  • I know I’m out of my territory here… but I truly loved this season. I think there are a lot of themes that may not have gotten across to the audience but I do believe over time people will appreciate it more and more as time often gives new perspective over these things. I think the theme of this whole season is watching a man at war with himself and I think that’s what made the villains here feel more like loose ends to Tommy. He’s a man facing the consequences of his ambitions and lifestyle at this point. The saying is the only man who can kill Thomas Shelby is Thomas Shelby, and in the end he nearly did. There are some things that obviously were not fleshed out and I think a season 7 would’ve allowed more time to give the plots some air to breathe. And when you hear there was a season 7 planned initially it makes sense why some plots didn’t get the time they deserved.

    • Im really glad you enjoyed the season tbh. Another comment said something similar and I think I might let it sit for a while and revisit the season in a few months time. Yeh I think the season felt "off" because its a bit different to your previous peaky seasons, and like you said it's more about Tommy's struggle both internally, and externally with his family and villains. I think they could have been a bit less ambitious in setting up so many enemies, maybe would have helped focus our attention more on Tommy, but who knows. Either way it's good that you enjoyed the season!
