I’m not against elephants in care earning their way . free from poachers and snare traps and endangering things. They are probably spoiled rotten never having to worry about drought and other things in the wild that they actually do Suffer from in the wild. In care they get medical attention in the wild they die from injuries. Captivity may be a last resort if the numbers continue to plummet . Nothing wrong with a place using them to help pay for the cost of their own care I don’t see that as exploitation. I see a win win 🏆. In India wild elephants get burned alive for raiding crops and invading small time farmers fields. This circus 🎪 scenario is not so bad .

This is SO appalling and demeaning that I can’t even watch the whole clip. To see them hopping about on 3 legs just had me in tears. Asia should embrace their immense good fortune of having these magnificent animals, and treasure them, in the wild where they belong. I am very pleased to read that most of the comments posted are aware of the cruelty involved for entertainment like this. If people don’t visit such centres, then this ghastly industry will collapse. I have reported this video to KZhead and sincerely hope it will be taken down. It is after all showing abuse in action.

For those new commenters, you have to understand the concept of what is and what has happened to these animals. In order to be around elephants safely, they need to go through a training method called the crush or pahaan. This means of training consists of inhumane beatings where baby elephants are torn from their mothers at the age of two. While elephants feel most of our emotions, this is as devastating for both elephants It is no different as a human child being stolen from their moms. Elephants are extremely intelligent and social animals that not only have the same emotions we do, they mourn their dead and sometimes they attempt to bury them and other small animals. The training is when they are shoved in a bamboo cage and tied and chained up by all limbs, trunks, and tails, and being pulled in all directions while being beaten with the bull hooks they are carrying here, electric prods, and sticks. They cry and struggle to escape this torcher chamber, where they can remain for up to a month. They are hit very hard on the top of their heads and other sensitive areas on their bodies. They are deprived of food, water, and sleep through this method of training and even urinating blood. Some even die. When the babies' spirits are broken it's time to throw them into the world of tourism. Before you go anywhere that uses animals, please do some research. There are a lot of elephant parks in Thailand that will use the word 'Sanctuary' when they in fact not. Sanctuaries forbid ridining, bathing or doing tricks. These elephants are the result of abused animals like these and let them just be elephants, and live like nature intended them for. They get to be social and bond with other elephants and create new families and freedom. I know it sounds boring but we must respect them and let them be happy for the fist time of their lives. Is this really what your money to go into? Places like this take your money to create more animal to enslave. I hope this helps and God Bless!

@@Jen8973 Yes I know that. That chain will remain so they can hook it up to a chain where you can't see them. (backyard) Each of these people uses them for different reasons.(no excuse except). I was given the opportunity to spend a little time with an African and 2 Asian elephants and I can tell you that it was a rewarding experience. Their facial expressions were far then sadness. Listening to them purring just melted my heart. It's funny because The African elephant was trying to bring her trunk up to me, and she was able to get it up far enough were I literally see her nostrils. The keeper came over and quickly put her trunk down when I asked him why. He told me that I was the first one to have her do this and I said, what's wrong with that? He said he didn't know if I would freak out. Really? She just wanted to check me out. Missed out on a wonderful opportunity to actually see her trying to communicate with me, but yes, if I can, I'll add that to my page. I believe I was just talking about them in general, not what was going on here. Thank you for taking the time to read it.

Please educate. Elephants are wild animals and belong with their families. They shouldn't have to obey anyone but their elders. These elephants were taken from their mothers in the wild and have gone through pajaan or the crush. There are some people talking about animal cruelty and they are trying to show they love animals. These gentle giants are well looked after and there are so many cruel things happening to animals around the world that they don't talk about. 1. Millions of chickens, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs etc are killed around the world brutally on a daily basis for human consumption. 2. Horses are used in horse racing and train them for horse riding 3. So many animals are used in laboratory in order to invent new vaccines and medicines for humans 4. SRILANKAN ELEPHANTS. Sri Lankan elephants are sub species of Asian elephants. They are quite small in size and have small ears compared with African elephants. Srilankan elephants are native to Srilanka. They have quite dark skin when compare with other asian elephants. Only few Male elephants become tuskers in Srilanka. Majority of females haven't tusks. Ancient Srilankan kings tame elephants and use them in royal army as well as various festivals. Srilankan elephants are quite friendly with people and can tame easily when compared with African elephants. This circus is for entertainment and quite fascinating to watch. I also watch this circus in my childhood. As Srilankans, we want to protect these magnificent animals for our next generation.

These precious majestic creatures are my favorite animal. 🐘 So it pains me to see these tricks that I know took fair amount of abuse for them to master. I wish nothing for places that utilize torture to exploit animals for selfish gain! It’s totally against what we as mankind should be with nature. The bright side is that someone in the comments mentioned this act is no more and was removed from the Dehiwala Zoo. I pray this is true. ✨🤞🏽

Right, it's called a "bullhook" and it has a sharp metal poke stick at the end, the trainers poke them on the most sensitive area of the elephant, the ears, by their eyes, on the head and trunk. See how the skin is marked up and pink on those areas instead of pure grey? That's from being hit many times with the bullhook. Compare to how an elephant looks in the wild, there is never worn, ragged ears, and discoloring along the trunk and over the eyes and head as these animals have. There are clearly abused elephants.

Elephants are the most empathetic animals on earth. Their numbers are on the verge of extinction, while humans have exploded beyond the limited capacity of this fragile planet. We have taken away the land elephants need to survive. It is sad to see the least empathetic of our species ruling over these incredible beings and turn them into objects for unworthy humans to glee over.

Elephants are very empathetic. I love those Thai sanctuary videos of those elephants living so happily, and they really do look joyful. It's heartmelting. I just read an article saying how true it is that elephants such as these poor elephants in this video really are getting abused and mistreated to preform these tricks. The same with elephant painting videos. Anything where an elephant is doing something that they don't naturally do in the wild, they've been abused to get them to do it. It must stop!! These poor beings need to be treated kindly. We need more sanctuaries like the ones in Thailand!!

If you look closely you can see the Elephant at 8:30 pouring its eyes out.. heart breaking stuff. The announcers on the intercom are also assuring the audience that the elephants are doing it "at their free will" and that "they enjoy it" but it does not take a genius to know this is classic brain washing of the masses. Also anyone else notice that the elephants that resist have red bruising around/behind their knee's? i assume this is due to bleeding because that is where the trainers seem to jab them the most..

There is nothing "Cute" about this. These elephants have been trained since they were small babies and they have been poked many times by the owners. It is abuse and wrong for them being used as entertainment, it is not their natural way of Living. They belong with other elephants in the Wild and to live as they were meant to live not like this.

Do you say the same thing when you see horses race or ride around in a ring with people on their backs? I’m not against elephants in care earning their way . free from poachers and snare traps and endangering things. They are probably spoiled rotten never having to worry about drought and other things in the wild that they actually do Suffer from in the wild. In care they get medical attention in the wild they die from injuries. Captivity may be a last resort if the numbers continue to plummet . Nothing wrong with a place using them to help pay for the cost of their own care I don’t see that as exploitation. I see a win win 🏆. In India wild elephants get burned alive for raiding crops and invading small time farmers fields. This circus 🎪 scenario is not so bad .

Do you say the same thing when you see horses race or ride around in a ring with people on their backs? I’m not against elephants in care earning their way . free from poachers and snare traps and endangering things. They are probably spoiled rotten never having to worry about drought and other things in the wild that they actually do Suffer from in the wild. In care they get medical attention in the wild they die from injuries. Captivity may be a last resort if the numbers continue to plummet . Nothing wrong with a place using them to help pay for the cost of their own care I don’t see that as exploitation. I see a win win 🏆. In India wild elephants get burned alive for raiding crops and invading small time farmers fields. I’ve seen them electrocuted from farmers using power lines to build electric fences. This is SO appalling and demeaning that I can’t even watch the whole clip. To see them hopping about on 3 legs just had me in tears. Asia should embrace their immense good fortune of having these magnificent animals, and treasure them, in the wild where they belong. I am very pleased to read that most of the comments posted are aware of the cruelty involved for entertainment like this. If people don’t visit such centres, then this ghastly industry will collapse. For those new commenters, you have to understand the concept of what is and what has happened to these animals. In order to be around elephants safely, they need to go through a training method called the crush or pahaan. This means of training consists of inhumane beatings where baby elephants are torn from their mothers at the age of two. While elephants feel most of our emotions, this is as devastating for both elephants It is no different as a human child being stolen from their moms. Elephants are extremely intelligent and social animals that not only have the same emotions we do, they mourn their dead and sometimes they attempt to bury them and other small animals. The training is when they are shoved in a bamboo cage and tied and chained up by all limbs, trunks, and tails, and being pulled in all directions while being beaten with the bull hooks they are carrying here, electric prods, and sticks. They cry and struggle to escape this torcher chamber, where they can remain for up to a month. They are hit very hard on the top of their heads and other sensitive areas on their bodies. They are deprived of food, water, and sleep through this method of training and even urinating blood. Some even die. When the babies' spirits are broken it's time to throw them into the world of tourism. Before you go anywhere that uses animals, please do some research. There are a lot of elephant parks in Thailand that will use the word 'Sanctuary' when they in fact not. Sanctuaries forbid ridining, bathing or doing tricks. These elephants are the result of abused animals like these and let them just be elephants, and live like nature intended them for. They get to be social and bond with other elephants and create new families and freedom. I know it sounds boring but we must respect them and let them be happy for the fist time of their lives. I was given the opportunity to spend a little time with an African and 2 Asian elephants and I can tell you that it was a rewarding experience. Their facial expressions were far then sadness. Listening to them purring just melted my heart. It's funny because The African elephant was trying to bring her trunk up to me, and she was able to get it up far enough were I literally see her nostrils. The keeper came over and quickly put her trunk down when I asked him why. He told me that I was the first one to have her do this and I said, what's wrong with that? He said he didn't know if I would freak out. Really? She just wanted to check me out. Missed out on a wonderful opportunity to actually see her trying to communicate with me, but yes, if I can, I'll add that to my page. I honestly think you believe what you say but in my opinion this is cruel and a lot of people commenting think the same thing. These elephants have been through the "crush" to make them comply with the "trainers" which is a very traumatic experience to watch let alone go through. Ancient Srilankan kings tame elephants and use them in royal army as well as various festivals. Srilankan elephants are quite friendly with people and can tame easily when compared with African elephants. This circus is for entertainment and quite fascinating to watch. I also watch this circus in my childhood. As Srilankans, we want to protect these magnificent animals for our next generation.

Right, it's called a "bullhook" and it has a sharp metal poke stick at the end, the trainers poke them on the most sensitive area of the elephant, the ears, by their eyes, on the head and trunk. See how the skin is marked up and pink on those areas instead of pure grey? That's from being hit many times with the bullhook. Compare to how an elephant looks in the wild, there is never worn, ragged ears, and discoloring along the trunk and over the eyes and head as these animals have. There are clearly abused elephants.

Elephants are the most empathetic animals on earth. Their numbers are on the verge of extinction, while humans have exploded beyond the limited capacity of this fragile planet. We have taken away the land elephants need to survive. Elephants are very empathetic. I love those Thai sanctuary videos of those elephants living so happily, and they really do look joyful. It's heartmelting. I just read an article saying how true it is that elephants such as these poor elephants in this video really are getting abused and mistreated to preform these tricks. The same with elephant painting videos. Anything where an elephant is doing something that they don't naturally do in the wild, they've been abused to get them to do it. It must stop!! If you look closely you can see the Elephant at 8:30 pouring its eyes out.. heart breaking stuff. The announcers on the intercom are also assuring the audience that the elephants are doing it "at their free will" and that "they enjoy it" but it does not take a genius to know this is classic brain washing of the masses. Using elephants, beers for street act is almost stopped in North of Bharat, idk about South. Hope this would soon stopped in all Bharat as well as Sri Lanka.

Actually I saw many vdos where forest officials of Sri Lanka greatly helping the elephants ...I was overwhelmed with those treatment...but this highly disturbs me...how cruel the elephants are treated...look into their face...how sad they are...pls let them live in the wild
