Fernando Augusto, commonly known by his nickname Tererê is one of the most talented and charismatic Brazilian jiu jitsu competitors to have ever stepped on a mat. This multiple time world medallist became a black belt world champion at the age of 20, and was regarded as a Pound for Pound best during the early 2000’s. His impact in modern day jiu jitsu was felt in his development of positions such as the Toreando, the Leg Drag and many others while having great impact also as a coach, having helped raise the game of fighters such as André Galvao, Rubens Charles, Michael Langhi, Lucas Lepri, and mire; Diagnosed case of schizophrenia in 2005, an affliction that led him to drug addiction and away from jiu jitsu. He reappeared in BJJ in 2010, but his recovery was erratic and followed with a few ups and downs. Terere returned to jiu jitsu competition in Mexico on September 2012.
Marcelo Garcia also known as ‘Marcelinho’, is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under Master Fabio Gurgel, who competes for the Alliance BJJ academy. Having won 5 world jiu jitsu tournaments and 4 times the ADCC (two of the most important tournaments in jiu jitsu), Garcia is widely considered one of the best grapplers in the world, while his general demeanor made him one of the most beloved athletes by the BJJ community. Marcelo Garcia has also been featured in BJJHeroes top 10 Best Grapplers of All Time list.

  • The single most important evolution to ever come to marcelo's single leg/x guard game came from this match. He misses the single leg x guard sit up sweep twice. Both times Terere was able to post his left hand, turn and flee the sweep. After this fight Marcelo began grabbing the far collar with the off hand. This prevents the opponent from fleeing the sweep. These are small details but if you are a true student of marcelo's evolution you will see that it changed from here out. Terere is my all time favorite player and his guard passing is the thing of legend. He tooled one of the greatest ever , not once but twice. It goes to show how strong alliance was. They both come from the same camp, only terere was an OG Alliance guy.

  • You're looking at 4 Gods and they are all from the Alliance Family! Carlos Gracie's the founder of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu trained his son Rolls Gracie, who in turn trained Romero "Jacare" Calvacanti(Alliance Founder) Who in turn trained Fabio Gurgel who in turn trained Marcelo Garcia. Romero Calvacanti who trained Alexander Paiva, who in turn trained Fernando "Terere" Augusto De Silva, who in turn trained Andre Gavalo( However, Terere could not give Andre his Blackbelt due to being arrested in the United States for odd behavior on a plane, which subsequently uncovered that Terere was suffering from mental instability due to drug abuse) Note: Terere also trained under Gurgel for a time and Marcelo Garcia also trained under Terere for a while! That's some shit for you!

  • Fernando tererê augusto e Marcelo Garcia ,duas feras . • Marcelo won adcc the year before this match, beating by a very good margin Renzo and tapping out Shaolin in 30 seconds or something among the other things, and Ibjjf worlds that very same year.. I agree that this wasn't his prime and "man handled" should be reserved for other kind of defeats rather than a respectable 4-0, but let's not say either he just started or something like he was a green to this level because it is clearly not true. He was already regarded as one of the best guys in the world.

Mas enquanto ele esteve ativo ,foi rei do peso médio, inclusive já tendo finalizado Garcia na final do Mundial preta em 2003. O jogo do Garcia ,não casava com o jogo do negão . • You failed to state that at that time Andre Galvao was a brown belt under the aforementioned Fernando "Terere" Augusto De Silva. Also you should have mentioned, just to give the viewer a tad of insight that Marcelo Garcia before going to Fabio Gurgel used to train under Terere for a spell, if I'm correct he left Terere as he worked for him in the dojo also and then went to Gurgel, I'm sure it was in that order because Marcel stayed with Gurgel from that point on. Also, Terere trained with Gurgel for awhile. And Gurgel although under Romero Calvacanti did take time to train under Rickson for a spell. Circle of Jiu-Jitsu Life!

  • I find this match extremely interesting given their past history and future career trajectory. Terere still has MG's number and MG barely survives the early part of the match. But as the match progresses, we see Marcelo improving his defense and his counters getting sharper. He would have scored two sweeps had Terere not run out of bounds. The two are fairly evenly matched in the later part of the match, with Terere being superior on his feet but Marcelo perhaps threatening more sweeps from the guard. Overall Terere won and his athleticism is unbelievable but Marcelo staying collected and eventually defusing his threats and passes is also super impressive. I'm a big Marcelo fan and his ability to improve his game while the match is progressing, when his body must be on fire all over, is one of his best qualities. Who knows what would have happened in the third match.

  • 10:00 sweep is genius. They battle for grip on Marcello's right side (as happened earlier in the match as well), but this time MC doesnt let Fernando establish one, and jerks into the sweep with lightning speed right in the moment Fernando moves from one grip attempt to the other. Otherwise the sweep fails. omg i watched it again, and i'm pretty sure Fernando gripping at the chest triggered Marcello's sweep. The chest raising will raise the hand and posture of Fernando, where a lower grip would anchor him down . So good.

    • Marcelo actually trained with Terere before going to Gurgel, that's why Terere is so relaxed in this fight, he knows Marcelo's moves in and out! Andre Galvao at this time was a brown belt under Terere before the airplane incident which ended up getting Terere incarcerated and not available to give Galvao his blackbelt. Als Ruben Charles is also a blackbelt under Fernando Terere Augosto De Silva

    • Advantage only counts when your opponent put the back on the floor. On both sweeps attempts that did not happens. Well you can argue that on the first attempt Terere run of the mat. I’m my interpretation he just kick the leg out, with is a valide escape. Unfortunately the mat finished. So technically it’s not count as running of mats.

  • Why are some in the comments trying to discredit terere's win ? I see that alot.

    @jodylowe8476@jodylowe84763 жыл бұрын
    • Because of his skin color, more than likely. I notice a lot of negative comments for both Jacare and Terere despite their achievements and relatively few negative comments for the white grapplers. Tribalism is a thing. Most of the posters on BJJ videos are white anyway, if that is a clue.

He doesnt roll out of bounds when he's in trouble, or squeak out wins by defensively holding onto point leads, or manipulate rules, and rarely complains unless its blatant. Upon rewatch, it wasnt that boring and Terere did an excellent job.
