  • I feel like Marcelo is a genius at breaking down subtle elements of movement and position. So many instructors are great at explaining specific techniques... but it just seems like he understands the dynamics of these positions at a deeper level.

  • I did get this to work tonight but you really have to pick the right moment. My opponent was putting a lot of pressure on me and he sat back for a second to try to attack my inside arm, sat up right as he was leaning back so had the momentum of his body as well. Kept driving and ended up getting him in side control. So it does work, just really situational

  • Just started training again and having a ridiculous hard time to escape side control. It's so frustrating, when im on top, ppl just roll me around, bench me up, do whatever they want, it's like im a feather. When im on the bottom, its like a building is on top of me and i have no strength to create any space with any of the arms. Their arm pits are stronger than my fucking legs so i cant create hip space either. Its a boomer man

    @foxybrown2@foxybrown24 жыл бұрын
  • What if he tries to take your back when you do this?

    @FightCommentary@FightCommentary4 жыл бұрын
    • The stiff arm should keep them away well enough. Hopefully you can recover before they get to your back if they get through the arm, I guess.

      @guamtek@guamtek3 жыл бұрын
    • They are anchored onto you and holding themselves in place. For them to take your back they have to back their weight off and get more mobile. When they do that your stiff arm helps increase the distance and allows you to reinsert your guard. Imagine it from the guy on top. Imagine trying to move to the back while being pushed outward. You would have to let off some of your counter-pressure.

  • If this hasnt worked for you, heres what i have to say. Anything you learn on the internet about jiu jitsu or martial arts you have to focus on it and drill it to understand the minute nuisances of the tecnique. You might get lucky “trying” it but using it successfully in comp without practice… good luck.

    • Works well for me. It does require timing though.

      @PatrickTeTau@PatrickTeTau10 жыл бұрын
    • Yes it does work, he would not be one of the best grapplers in the world if he relied on speed and athleticism. Black belts just know how to use all the little details in every move to make it seem easier than it is.

      @blahnisa@blahnisa9 жыл бұрын
    • Why are you scared to be physical? Speed (aka TIMING) and athleticism are huge parts of grappling. You will never be the best bjj practitioner you can be if you think u can simply technique and leverage your way out of everything. Real talk: there's a reason why old dudes with encyclopedic technique can't fuck with the athletic beasts you see in elite bjj competition. The sooner you let go your romantic notions not having to use "strength", the sooner you will progress.

      @jntkflow@jntkflow9 жыл бұрын
    • +elise p no the real answer is in the video, do it befor they settle and get pressure on you. it is all in the timing. do it as they get a grip control on you but befor they settle in, nothing works once you are pinned, you have to time your escapes, either befor the pin or as they let up on the pin and look to transition or submit

    • Carlson Gracie, an nah I usually don't have a problem unless it's like one of those super heavy dudes, an there's only like two at my gym, the heaviest one isn't bad cuz he's pretty slow and lazy, but there's one dude who's like my height but he prolly like 300lbs no bullshit, but he's also strong and faster cuz he's smaller an can move when he has to so when he trys to pass my gaurd it's fast aswell as strong an lot's of pressure, I gotta prolly get used to moving out the way more, but this works I was using it the other night an was working better then expected. Lyk how it works on the big guy tho.

    • I not athletic nor fast. And I use this. You create momentum with your legs. Lift them up. Then swing them down. But midway, you flex like an L. And you will come up. It works easier the closer the person is to your waist. Or if the person on top is sitting with his legs like a scarfhold. I usually reverse people with this
