The first time you hear one of norms jokes, it’s like watching a drunk guy stumble a tightrope, barely hanging on, then landing a perfect finish out of nowhere. The second time you hear the joke, you realize the guy was sober the whole time, and the joke was that you thought he was drunk.

But most importantly, for me, the man who, when I’m watching him do his thing, never fails to keep the smile on my face the whole time. Yes but what about the hypocrisy!
Norm McDonald is on another level of intelligence. He seems like a simple man, he isn’t
He cited Leo Tolstoy as an influence. Only a genius would have that level of insight into the human condition. Norm was a psychologist and philosopher playing a comedian.
Yep dude probably had a very high iQ
He almost won a million on the millionaire. He knew the million dollar question but took the money. He's very bright. Many comedians are.
When he convinced Barbara Walters that he'd only read a single book his entire life and she insultingly asks, "What woman would want a man that's only read one book?" Norm replies, "Well, I have a lot of MONEY." Simply awesome.

@@jbean9021 people who are invested in the comedy world view Norm as the legend and the golden standard of being a comic, while the majority of people hardly know who he is (maybe US citizens that grew up in his SNL era know him well too). Majority of people know names that are mainstream like Chapelle etc. while Norm appearances and shows are kinda niche, especially for younger audiences. The fact he is not alive anymore is not helping. But I think it’s more or less on purpose, he was never trying to be the center of attention. Better went as underrated than overrated for sure. Peace
The logic joke is a masterclass in Norms humour. The way he hooks the crowd back in with the stupid random chicken line only to waste the next minute of their time talking about waiting for a completely irrelevant bus. That and the moth joke shine bright for me in an otherwise sparkling career.
Ahhh jeez. Now I have to watch the whole thing
And yet the chicken comes back in as the second punchline at the very end. He had a way of giving two or three punchlines to a joke. He may not even have planned them all the time, but throwing in a random thing in the middle of the story gives him something to work with in the end.
@@Ardepark when did the chicken come back
@@bait5257 After it crossed the road
The moth joke killed me!😂🤣
I think it’s the perpetual smile that he was when telling these stupid stories that makes us love them and him.

Kamanha Yami lmao
Its good to listen to too though
It’s that... and so much more. It would take ages to describe the allure of his candour.
he sincerely loves what he does, it's refreshing
I keep coming back to these lovely times when our Norm blessed our lives and made our bellies jiggle uncontrollably! Thank you!
Norm was a genuine genius and spontaneous. Even when he goofed up he would look back at the crowd and they would break out laughing and it never phased him at all, he finished the joke when most people would just die on the stage of fright.
was he good at math or something?
@@DJDownes100 yeah. I heard he graduated high school 2 years early and went to a good college for math and philosophy. But he would tell people he was a high school drop out because he knew the average person doesn't really like smart people
I love Norm’s commitment to a joke that has to run around the block a few times before he finds the punchline. God definitely broke the mold after he made Niorm. I hope he is laughing for eternity.
Yeah he broke the mold. But don't worry, it'll grow back.
as we follow him on his trip around the block
Only one Norm? This God guy sounds like a real jerk
He can't laugh. He died.
Niorm
"coaly" is a word, and it describes exactly what Norm wanted to portray. But that's the genius of Norm, letting others think they're smarter than him and not correcting them.
After he passed several comedians were talking about something like this. He would often purposely mispronounce words for comedy. I think he did it in this clip when he said "mafia"
@@duanedes1gn That Andy Williams/Warhol joke was on this vein.

I never understood how brilliant he actually was until he was gone. The things I have taken for granted.
Aww that sad starts off with Norm saying he loves being alive. Rip to a real one.

Always thought sex was like roller coasters. The first ride is great but after a while you gotta find a better coaster. Then you just kinda outgrow them altogether.
Surprised he never Interchanged Q-Bert for Frogged.
I can watch Norm over and over and never get tired of it. Laugh every time. We lost the great one when he passed.
What a way to weave a story. Even with Conan trying to guess the direction. Thank you Mr McDonald. RIP sir.
“He was from my cousins side of the family.” That was a very smart joke. At least half of the audience picked that up.
Tell the folks at home what an audience is.
You can have cousins on either side of your family, and saying “my uncle is from my cousin’s side” is obvious and provides no additional info.
Alextrovert I see you’re from the other half of the audience
@Drillo It's funny because you can't discern what side of the family he's talking about or what side could be polish. Its just a stupid answer that sounds legit at first until you think about it. Its like a Bugs bunny joke that takes the bad guy a few seconds to figure out while Bugs gets away.
brilliant---!
I love the joy in Dennis Miller's voice when he's talking to Norm. He's like a kid on Halloween dumping out his bag of candy on the floor.

Norm’s relationship w/ Dave was truly special. Norm never forgot that he had given him his first real break and it shows in their banter. I miss him for many reasons but I fear they are selfish and I would never wish Norm to give me one of his “looks”. So glad we have clips to rewatch when we need our Norm fix. Adios my friend
One of a kind comic! Once in a generation comic that was genius to all generations. "Was a generational type thing". RIP NORM! You are still bringing us laughs 2 years after leaving us! Thanks for all the memories we have to see your comedy at the click of a button!

Right now I'm picturing Norm standing at the pearly gates, ordering a Polish sausage, and making the angels crap their pants with laughter. Rest in peace, Norm.
All hardware stores in heaven give away polish sausages for free
Heaven's angels have no sense of humor, and to make it worse, they only drink heaven's milk.
In my version of heaven no one has pants. RIP Norm.
I'd think he be decomposing in his grave, having a chicken with the gay guy.
angels don't have to bathroom.
Comedic genius yes. Guy who makes me laugh out loud(lol), often until it hurts, more than any other sure. A scholar and a gentlemen? I have no doubt about it. But most importantly, for me, the man who, when I’m watching him do his thing, never fails to keep the smile on my face the whole time. Through laughter and tears there is always that smile and I’m actually not sure that it’s possible for me to not have that smile on my face when I’m watching Norm no matter what’s going on for me in my everyday humdrum life. Norm Macdonald's segment on the roast of Bob Sagat has to be one of the greatest routines EVER.
