Jerry Pritchett set a seemingly unmatchable record on the Rogue Elephant Bar Deadlift in 2017 with 1031 pounds.
Today, March 3, 2018, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson smashed that record by successfully pulling 1041 pounds on the same bar giving him a three and half point lead going into the final event of the 2018 Arnold Strongman Classic.
*correction: standard straps are allowed.
When Brian Shaw can't lift something, you know that shit is HEAVY.
I tink it's not that it was heavy for Shaw but there's sometings that competitors will be better at than some Thor's good at deadlier Brian is good at plane pull truck pull and atlas stones
I mean deadlift
If this was 2018 then Brian had some significant injuries.
@@iamvenom1352 thor beat him in truck pull and stones...
@@fit69 I no dude I'm not talking abt just 1 tearing talking abt overall
Is there a place to donate to the record breakers fund? $5000 is embarrassing.
No kidding. Arnold should be ashamed. Surely the promoters of this event can do better.

@@haydenprichard7303 for being on the bench
so you lift 1048lbs just to be given 5,000 usd??!!!! that is not fair, that is not even equivalent to the food and supplements that this guys take.
5,000 is a crappy prize for a world record that risks your life. Cough up Arnold, you've got more dough than that.
That is for deadlift alone, Thor won the Arnold Classic Strongman and took home $72,000 with Brain Shaw 2nd taking home $22,000.
Yup, and footballers who do no way near the amount of work get hundreds of times more money. Definetly not fair.
Footballers get paid more because football is more relevant to the market. It has nothing to do with effort.
Darth Malgus and they spent their prize money at Costco in 3 months
Besides Thors 472kg lift, Shivlyakovs 426kg at 47:19 was the most impressive lift in this competition. What a warrior.
Hell yes. He is the example of giving 100%. It was lift that shit or die.
agreed. i love how at the end he's just pointing at his own blood like "i'm sorry guys"
im cheering for him, such spirit and humbleness
I wouldn't have watched it right through if I knew that would happen at the end. Maybe Brian should have kept to the same weight. I really expected and hoped he would do it.

I want to ask- (29:40) what is that on his legs?? Tattoo? or wound plaster?? thanks maybe someone knows
That is KT tape. Helps hold you together lol
5k for a record is a joke. What a shame

Doesn’t matter
Not really it's only one lift. Nice gesture. You usually dont get paid for breaking records, you just go down in the book. If you win the tournament you should get a nice payday
Its crazy the gap between the top guys and the rest of the filed. Brian Shaw's warm up lift was these guys maxes
It´s amazing. But what also surprises me is how young is the Polish man (sorry, I don´t know the name yet) and he finished third. This sport has got a bright future.
Dom Shefwood yeah hafthor and Brian both weigh about 100lbs heavier than everyone else so an 800lb deadlift is the equivalent of someone who is 150lns lifting 300lbs so yeah it makes sense they can lift so much more.
the difference maker is guys like Shaw and Hafthor are genetic giants where as the other guys are more normal sized human beings just with a lot of muscle.
Not everyone can be born an absolute freak of nature (In the best way)
These guys are pulling 1000lbs like it's nothing, 15 years back if a strong men pulled 800lbs it meant something. Plus these peope running this organization should be embarassed to pay $5000 for somebody killing their body for entertainment
And the people destroying their body for entertainment should fucking realize how stupid they are
You do realize that the competitors don't live on competition money, right? I think the payouts are low, but it's not like these guys take their check home and try to spread it out over 5 months of living expenses.
There not killing there body
They aren't killing their body lmao. And this was just one EVENT in the competition, the grand prize was over $70k USD.
@@dan8562 any sport at a top level is a huge strain on their body, so they kinda are, but I'm pretty sure they dgaf
The record break prize should be $50,000 not $5,000?! Wtf
apparently sponsors dont believe they are worth that much. 5000 dlrs is like 1000 with 'lets make them a favor' . these strongmen beat the shit out of their bodies, millioms of people watching and the best they can do is givd them a prize of 5000. might as well do lidt it home
It’s 50k now thabkfully
Cheap mofos
They heard ya
1million $
Shaw is like a scientist with his form. So precise.
Except his last lift where his hips shot up too early. Although at very heavy weights it's so hard not to try and dominate with quad push and maintaining a back brace becomes hard.
Dimitar seriously looks like he is about to have a heart attack...
Looks like his head is about to explode
He blinking like crazy, sweating, cant stand still. The guy needs to stop
Yep, I mean doctors are gonna tell him better than us but dude from the outside he doesnt look like a healthy man
I thought I was the only one noticing that...
Maybe anxiety,i mean out of competitions he looks and talks normal
Joining 1000lb club has a completely different meaning with these guys.
5000 usd for the heaviest deadlifts on the planet...gimme a break...

Arntaageb eddie have done 450 kg w/ %100 raw
When did Eddie do 450 in 100% raw?
yes, but that is on training, not competition, + he did what we call "forklift" which is the aid of thighs to lift up the bar, so it would be 3 red lights on comp. Still very fuckin impressive
"forklift"? it's called hitching. Hitching is allowed in strongman
Hafþór Björnsson's deadlift is just a pleasure to watch. He broke the world record and looked like he could probably do more.
Guy goes in and lifts 426kg, nose starts bleeding, almost dies. Few minutes later The Mountain goes in and picks up 472kg and could've probably done 480 by the looks of it... That man is a monster!
@@Entoni_Spirkoski Duuuh? =P
This comment though. Had me laughing because its true
It's about spirit not only strength. That Russian maxed out his limits unlike any other competitors
some of these guys make this all look like light weight and it is great.
BigBear -J and I just started my journey of body building, I know I'm no near to any of these mayne not even in next 10 yrs and I lift 60 kg lol
@J- Boy LOL, I dead lifted 405 lbs for 3 reps the other day and these guys can clean and over head press that shit for reps easy. These guys make you realize how small you really are smh.
For the people saying 500kg is the record. That deadlift was done with the help of a deadlift suit. Eddie hall last competition in Arnold pulled 464 with very high difficulty. Also this is the record for rogue elephant.
First the 500kg was done at the deadlift championships on a standard bar yes so its a different record, and unless you think a suit adds 40kg not sure what your point is. Next Hall had just pulled 460kg before....not sure about you, but i don't usual pull my max and then pull it again on the same day.
Tirthankar Mandal i hope Thor finally wins wsm 2018, it's time🌎
Plus the bars are different.
i think eddie has retired from strongman, so yea Thor will win it in 2018....if he stays healthy
Tirthankar Mandal damn obvious? Could be quite the opposite. The guy could have become weaker due to many factors ;) do not assume something you dont know
In my humble opinion the most impressive man on this event was Jean-Francois Caron ! What a warrior. He is so underated and yet he performs amazing.
Found the Canadian
the prize should be the weight of what they lifted in 100 dollar bills
Congratulations Hafthor Björnsson next World's Strongest Man!
Kevin C U called it 👍
I will never cease to be amazed at how easily these men lift this weight. That's over 1/2 ton being lifted from the floor with nothing more than human power. I don't care about what bar, their form or any of that meaningless minutia. That's 1,000+ freaking pounds! Amazing!
Half a ton is 500kg so it’s defo not over that 😂😂 but yes agreed mate
@@JoKacX 1000kg is a metric ton. An actual ton is 2000lbs
😂😂 nice one mate
@@JoKacX Hes probably from the US were half a ton = 1000 lbs. We don't do the metric system over here we haven't caught up to the rest of the world yet.

47:46 DEADLIFT TILL I AM DEAD
Strongman Sascha yes amazing deadlift
Thors team member in the back had a great reaction too.
58:24 this guy interrupts, his friend's profound speech for a simple "aaaeeehhhhh"
1:05 “Straps of any kind are not allowed” First guy up uses straps 🙄🤔
These straps are invisible for the first 3 hours.
must have been a typo or for a different event in there because the official ruleset said hitching and straps were allowed
The commentary, it’s insulting to the competitors 🤦♂️🤷🏼♂️🤔
DL Power Why? It seemed to me like they wanted to cheer on the competetors and get the crowd involved. Sure, they missed a couple of facts here and there, but i generally think, they succeded at making it entertaining, while respecting the hard work and dedication of the athletes.
Is not football you know
It's insulting to our intelligence
Great victory for Thor. It looks like he's gonna get it this year
The world record for a raw deadlift (a deadlift where only a weight belt is allowed) is 472 kg (1,040.6 lb) by Hafthor Bjornsson The world record deadlift (using a standard bar and plates but suit, straps and hitching allowed) is 500 kg (1,102.3 lb) by Eddie Hall
Eddie hall pulled 472KG at WSM 2017 without a suit, also
With straps it is not RAW. The real raw deadlift record (without straps and suit) is held by magnusson, if i remember well (he pulled smthing like 465 kg)
giovanniro92 461
My favourite deadlift is KK one, 426kg without belt, straps and suit; one of the biggest feature of strength i have ever seen
josh hayes WSM 2017 had suits for deadlifts
1:08:28 most impressive lift of the night
This was the peak. Nothing has compared since.
Who keeps inviting mark henry to these events ?
I think he just shows up..

All these guys did so well. This was epic. So much respect, I cheered for all of them.
These guys blow me away. I love this stuff. Nothing but respect.
I cannot wait for this event this year!!

The weight Thor lifted wasn't even his PR hes lifted more in training dude is a monster.
Thor looking brilliant this year. This is his year for WSM! Thanks for getting this event up Rogue! Great watch.
48:00 - "For one second I thought John went to sleep! I see he's still awake!" - Kali Muscle's voice
1:00 Straps not allowed? Then why is everyone still using them?
Haha da fuck. The editors for the show must have been poorly informed. I've never seen a deadlift contest in strongman where they havent been used straps. Hell its one of the reasons why some powerlifters out right refuse to give any credit to strongman deadlifts. Despite the fact that some strongman doesnt even use a belt instead. Only deadlift like excersise I've seen them do without straps were like a car behind the back DL. And that is only because the grips are "neutral" (like a trap bar). Since the biggest reason for the straps in strongman is so they dont have to use a mixed or thumb grip while (mixed risks tearing a bicep)
Jorrit van Leiden 8 figure straps aren’t allowed the editors are not misinformed regular straps are allowed
If it say's straps are not allowed then it means all kinds of straps.. that was a mistake.
It said straps of any kind so... Makes the record less impressive. A world record for a bar that's longer? Why....?
Just to create more hype at the event. The longer bar makes it easier to break from the floor but makes the barbell whip a lot more near the top of the lift.
Amazing lifts but god damn do I hope they ditch Mark Henry for next year ...
Great coverage
de principio a fin esto fue intenso y agradesco que hayan subido el live, gran aporte talves practique este deporte 😅✌🏼️

I don't know what is more devastating. The pure, raw strength of these humans. Or these commentators.
Those 45lbs look sick
16:04, all blood seems to be collecting in his hands. Damn!! :O
20:14 LOL, gotta love Brian. Mateusz seems to be constantly improving, I think we can expect big things from him in the future
Even though he missed the lift, hearing a crowd of thousands chant "USA, USA" as the greatest strongman of all time attempts the heaviest deadlift he's ever done, after a killer intro by Mark Henry. Such a special moment. Makes me proud to be an American.
The commentary crew for this event was complete garbage.
as allways
I disagree > I thought Mark Henry was excellent, he reads the crowd, talks to the crowd, stays in the flow. NOT his fault it took 10 minutes for the lifters to pick numbers to start lifting at. So the commentators had to fill 10 minutes waiting for them. And he was 2x Olympian so he is qualified to comment on strength !
Have you tried lifting lifting with people on the mic and sound echoing everywhere. It’s not a race or football game it’s weight lifting there not going to be cheering and yelling goooooooaaaaallllll they are there to give viewers at home and at the event updates on weights who’s who and what technique is being used.
Its a game of chess
Yeah I thought he was blabbing at the wrong moment when guys were trying to concentrate just before their lift. I guess with all those arians on stage they had to have at least one black man up there lol
Crazy to think that a dude like Pete Rubish could hang with these dudes at a bodyweight of 242.
Sorta. His best deadlift is about 920 pounds in the gym and high 800s in competition. So I guess he could hang with some of these guys, but he would be near the bottom of the pack. The top guys are lifting 1000 pounds plus as you can see :)
In the one event, if he didn't do any of the events before
Pete would have to do all of these events they did the days prior first, then try to deadlift 920lbs. The conditioning strongmen have is absolutely insane, to be able to show up sore and beaten up and still pull over 1000lbs.
Honor Foss yeah but it’s an elephant bar, kinda different then what Pete used to lift, which I’m sure is a Texas power bar, which adds 50-100lbs depending on how strong you are. Pete maybe would have placed 5th at this event, which is still insane given his bodyweight, but his leverages (world class) probably don’t carry over to other non static lifting events I may be wrong about what Pete used to lift, but even so, this is after 3 other events one after the other with no resting days, Pete would probably lose horribly at the other events.
buck Buckley right I got that. I'm just saying for the deadlift event.
great effort! great effort!
Everyone up there got gigantic backs the dude making sure the lift is legit I can't even notice the chair, goals man
I wish they invited Eddie and Benny to this event

Henry cutting promos at the Arnold. Grats on your WWE Hall of Fame 2018!!
most lifters try to fire up before the lift. Rauno Heinla tries to puke. Whatever it takes
Thor made that record look easy.
Incredible!
Amazing how with this kind of weight having a narrow stance/grip is a huge advantage. More bar bend and less ROM.
I like how it says mark Henry was the worlds strongest man in 2002, which is not true at all! Lol he has never won the worlds strongest man contest ever! Winning the Arnold is not the world strongest man title.
you can argue all day with people that will say the arnold is a better test of strength than the WSM
Blodørn except for the fact that it's only 5 lifts, where as the worlds strongest man has more. No doubt Arnold is the biggest sports festival but it's not the official title of worlds strongest man!
More events doesn't mean much. Arnold has a focus on pure strength lifts no running around like WSM, and thats why is generally considered better.
people say that because he beat the previous winner of wsm to win the arnold title
Blodørn at the time it wasn't
I would rather no commentary compared to mark Henry and whoever else had the mic. This is bullshit.
750 lbs!!!! And sounds like a wrestling commentator. We understand the weight. We're all lifters. With all the hype over 800, there's nowhere to go when over 1000
