Jerry Pritchett set a seemingly unmatchable record on the Rogue Elephant Bar Deadlift in 2017 with 1031 pounds.
Today, March 3, 2018, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson smashed that record by successfully pulling 1041 pounds on the same bar giving him a three and half point lead going into the final event of the 2018 Arnold Strongman Classic.
*correction: standard straps are allowed.

    @aslator@aslator6 жыл бұрын
    • First the 500kg was done at the deadlift championships on a standard bar yes so its a different record, and unless you think a suit adds 40kg not sure what your point is. • 1:00 Straps not allowed? Then why is everyone still using them?

    @Bijrijder@Bijrijder6 жыл бұрын
    • Haha da fuck. The editors for the show must have been poorly informed. I've never seen a deadlift contest in strongman where they havent been used straps. Hell its one of the reasons why some powerlifters out right refuse to give any credit to strongman deadlifts. Despite the fact that some strongman doesnt even use a belt instead. Only deadlift like excersise I've seen them do without straps were like a car behind the back DL. And that is only because the grips are "neutral" (like a trap bar). Since the biggest reason for the straps in strongman is so they dont have to use a mixed or thumb grip while (mixed risks tearing a bicep)

      @noobybadgerFTW@noobybadgerFTW6 жыл бұрын
    • Just to create more hype at the event. The longer bar makes it easier to break from the floor but makes the barbell whip a lot more near the top of the lift.

So the commentators had to fill 10 minutes waiting for them. And he was 2x Olympian so he is qualified to comment on strength !

It’s not a race or football game it’s weight lifting there not going to be cheering and yelling goooooooaaaaallllll they are there to give viewers at home and at the event updates on weights who’s who and what technique is being used.

    • Sorta. His best deadlift is about 920 pounds in the gym and high 800s in competition. So I guess he could hang with some of these guys, but he would be near the bottom of the pack. The top guys are lifting 1000 pounds plus as you can see :)

    • Pete would have to do all of these events they did the days prior first, then try to deadlift 920lbs. The conditioning strongmen have is absolutely insane, to be able to show up sore and beaten up and still pull over 1000lbs.

      @kickenwing30@kickenwing306 жыл бұрын
    • Honor Foss yeah but it’s an elephant bar, kinda different then what Pete used to lift, which I’m sure is a Texas power bar, which adds 50-100lbs depending on how strong you are. Pete maybe would have placed 5th at this event, which is still insane given his bodyweight, but his leverages (world class) probably don’t carry over to other non static lifting events I may be wrong about what Pete used to lift, but even so, this is after 3 other events one after the other with no resting days, Pete would probably lose horribly at the other events.
