  • The government spent $400k and 3 years to fine him $3,000. If that doesn’t perfectly encapsulate the idiocy of government spending, I don’t know if anything will.

  • I live in central London, near bank, and I honestly cannot explain the levels of complexity that is beneath me. There’s a black door in an alleyway below me that is a private members club and is essentially 5 stories down and is absolutely huge. People don’t realise that London has two cities, above ground and below ground. There are hundreds possibly thousands of abandoned tunnels and bunkers below this city. It’s fascinating.

    • Lucky he didn't. I remember hearing a few years back about a guy who deliberately tried to get into MI5, or MI6 (one of them) via underground tunnels. He was posting about it on social media, right up to his last attempt and was livestreaming himself going through a tunnel when 3 people dressed in suits with flashlights approached him and grabbed him, taking the phone and cutting the stream. That guy was never seen again. Not sure what tunnel, or part of London here was under/near, but I reckon it was close to MI5/MI6 and they got him.

If he had done it in New York (if he were non American), he would never be allowed back in to the USA again. If he had done it in Beijing or Moscow, he would still be in prison now. If he had done it in North Korea, he would never be seen again. You believe a state can allow people to access their communications hub with impunity and advertise to every idiot in the world how to do so? Just because 'oh im writing a book, so im fine to do as I please, I promise I will be respectful, honest'. It's a very naive thought.

  • yeah the big problem with people going down there is that they dont come back up. people keep going an going until theyre lost or until their is little to no oxygen and they collapse without even knowing something is wrong. confined spaces are a real thing

  • I did business removals in London years ago and it was interesting that you could move from building to building underground through creepy half lit corridors. It was like the backrooms.

    • I havn't seen this myself but i've known the guy who told me for 30+ years and I really have no reason to suspect he'd lie about anything ever. There's a square room way below Leicester's cultural quarter only accessible from directly above with a single chair bolted to the floor in the middle. He had no idea what it was for or when it was built.
