Literally what made up his mind was Mikes comment about "sometimes I like to hang out with people who are not that bright" which some would consider rude and gtfo. He sees it as confirming "yeah this guy is gonna be good" If you want a good team you need a dynamic like they have, in just about any serious field. Sadly a lot of employers don't know what respect is and think its fear/total submission be their bitch. You can find tons of those employees... they will do the minimum.

They could have, however taken him on as a paralegal, and made it part of his contract that he had to finish a bachelor's degree within two years time, after which he'd continue to work with them in a reduced capacity during his law studies at Harvard. With the option of dismissing him should he fail to fulfill his contractual obligations. And a mere five years later they'd have a brilliant new Harvard graduate. They would have easily been able to pull a few strings to get this prodigy a decent education. Maybe not easier, but a LOT more legal. • In the real world, if such a situation arose, Harvey would have hired mike on as a paralegal, and Harvey and Jessica could have lobbied Harvard into letting Mike go to school there. Companies or a firm, in this case, generally do this with a contract guaranteeing a set amount of years of that person's future employment. They pay for education, and that person agrees to work for them for a set amount of years after they graduate. It's a win-win. But Fraud makes for better TV.

The BAR doesn't mess around with criminal activity, especially unethical academic behavior. Someone from my law school was kicked out for having a job because it went against their policy of 1Ls not having jobs. It's really not that complicated. Which ahem, believe it or not, Colleges want money. It's why so many 'kicked out' students find their way back even to the same college that kicked them out in the first place. SOME college would have taken him in. Some law school would have as well. It's not a crazy idea to think he could have went to a community college first, then completed his 4 year degree at some random college and then gotten a law degree. There are plenty of people who get caught cheating. . . using plagiarism etc who could find themselves at another college. Don't discount people's willingness to help insanely 'gifted' people as well. IRL, Harvey would have just told Mike, 'let me call some people' and yeah, he'd be then on his way to college. But then there wouldn't' be a show haha.

  • Harvey: I'm inclined to give you a shot, but what if I decide to go the other way? Mike: I'd say that's fair. Sometimes I like to hangout with people who aren't that bright. Just to see how the other half lives. Screenwriting at its finest !!!

  • I bet I've watched this scene 20 times since I first saw it and got instantly hooked on the series. Brilliant, fast-paced and awesome characterizations. Saw the whole series and I still love going back to favorite scenes. I haven't found a smarter show in ages!
